  • Lovely, I found this completely by accident, wonderful stuff :)

  • @: 2:01 What's in my mind: *Butcher talking quickly* "During the war, I had to help the home guard stop a runaway train. It's going to hit the King's straight- oh, and the Vicar, Virgin, the A.R.P.P. Person-"

    "Enough already!"

*continues* "-was a handcard, pulling us at the brake, so I.S.S. to the Captain *?* says-"

"QUIET!!" Good job on that; I just added som pizzaz to make it even funnier; anyways, good part of script!

  • Lol at the dad's army reference!

  • If the Reverend W. Awdry was here, he would be proud to see that you take railway realism seriously.

  • From seeing this episode for a third time I can see just how much the series have changed to the sets and the track work itself. And can I ask will any old engines be returning to the series in the episode to come?

  • I bet poor Allen was the subject of "Jazz Service" jokes when he got home.

  • at 1:03 the v2 isnt that herbert

  • nice thumb!

  • @leokimvideo - thanks Chap :) I'm trialling it to see if adding the face makes a difference to how the video's views does. Adding a face on most videos does indeed make a difference, but I'm unsure if an engine's face falls into the same category.

  • At 4:13 Alan derailed, his driving wheels are inside the rails.

  • @whistleforthebigcash - no he isn't derailed, he has more finescale wheels than the hornby models around him, and therefore the look is "right" (the outside of the wheels and flanges fitting perfectly).

  • Oh, my bad. Yeah, I haven't seen that kind of fit before. Sorry.

  • What kind of engine is Allan?

  • He's a Peppercorn (spelling?) A1 pacific.

  • what a great episode!

  • What a great series! I wonder what the Reverend Wilbert Awdry would have to say about this! ;)

  • shame the characters didn't have multiple faces, but still great stuff

  • From 0:56 to 0:59 that V2 at the station was Herbert!

  • From Brack, age 5: I liked it when the big blue engine left the old Western engine behind, and then went back for him.

From Clement, age 9: very creative

From Dad: very helpful video for bringing up the next generation "correctly" ! Well done.

  • You're very kind, all of you. I try to make the videos educational, historical and moral. The later episodes will get darker slightly but they will always have a decent outcome, on the side of doing what is right, rather than what is easy.

  • 'Land Of Hope And Glory' INDEED, Sir!

Lovely stuff. I shall save it for my great-grandkids.

    Rob

  • Hi Rob,

Thanks very much for your compliments. I only wish I had more time to devote to making this series look better - the more eye catching it is, the better the story can be told. Kind Regards, Simon

  • i thought that was dad's army but wasn't sure so i didn't say anything lol

  • I'm suprised no-one's noticed the Dad's Army references from 1:59 to 2:13. lol

    Lee |m|

  • ok, had a look here as well

  • Now I would who that butcher was, tee hee hee.

  • where does the smoke come from??

  • Inscence

  • For the last time, NO IT DOES NOT. WE HAVE A SMOKE EFFECTS MACHINE NOT UNLIKE SPARKSHOTS.

  • No need to yell! I thought I saw burns in the track left be incence!

  • Actually those ruddy burns in teh track are from jason's ruddy live steam "Silver Link" which drops oil like nobody's business

  • I see. Don't you have a seperate track for Jason's Silver Link to run on?

  • No sadly - but what drives me mad is that I have a live steam mallard that doesn't drop oil anything the like - so doesn't damage the track.

  • You should. Do you think the pipes are bad on Silver Link?

  • you can see the western train Allen is ment to be pulling at 1:30

  • Eh...no you can't, actually.

  • What does it mean to "keep your wheels free"?

  • "Don't make any effort to pull the train as I will do it all for you".

  • Oh, thank you for explaining!

  • Absolutly wonderful.

I grew up with the original Thomas book befor they go comershalised.

    This more like it :)

  • the bit where The signalman meet Allen was simler to Thomas's Train!

  • I'm guessing the "worried V2 Engine" is Herbert.

    Lee |m|

  • Yeppo!

  • Who is the engine at 4:27 that got replaced by Herbert?

  • Herbert didn't replace him - that engine appears in episode 2 right at the begining, with the goods train explanation. He's the standard class 4 that appears from time to time. He's been nicknamed the "street crosser" because he appears in the background so many times!!!

He hasn't got a name yet, but if anyone can think of a decent one, we might write him into an episode properly.

(PS he's wearing one of the other character's faces, by the way!!!)

  • i love this series its really good

  • It sure is!

  • Thank you both for your compliments, but we're learning all the time on how to film better, model and write better. The next few episodes will be better, I hope, lol!

    SuperJason

  • This is very good! Well done :) I like how it's based of Thomas the Tank Engine in some ways :) i.e the faces on trains idea. But nonetheless an original series idea :)

  • Thank you very much for your compliments. Check the next series trailer for something sightly more Thomas influenced...if we can upload it off Nick's ever breaking down laptop...

  • Very good video, couldnt help note the modern tankers in part one, they look a bit too big behind that 28xx.

  • I know...I told Jason...they're 70s wagons really, still used on the network thought. If and when we get time, we'll come back to this episode and reshoot that. But it wasn't a 28XX, but a 43XX (2-6-0). It looks even smaller then!!!

  • Oh right... I thought it was Hornbys 28xx 2-8-0.

  • We'd love to get a 28XX for Hawksworth's series, would probably become the featured engine, what with the smoke generator and all...anyone point us in the direction of a cheap 28XX?

  • Further to that, the engine was a bachmann 43XX, heavily weathered.

  • My Brother has one, very nice with smoke unit and firebox light. Trubble is the funnel on it melted so my brother got a new metal one.

  • The metal ones are much better: so far, we've replaced all of the chimneys on the GWR series engines as we've added smoke generators.

  • Sadly the "pffft" sound at the begining is actually a sound effect! We're not going to use that one again. Most of this episode was incense stick shot, but at the end in the shed was shot with the new smoke machine. The Thomas' train reference was unintentinal originally, until we realised we could get some more dialogue from it. Personally, I think ours is more siuational, but what the hey...

  • if you are going to use still pictures with the talking the what you can do is edit severel pics to make a rough animation rather than just one face, (I don't do it much though) the smoke at the end worked niely too, you getting a smoke machiene?

  • just seen it, of to a good start! keep your mouth about 8 inches away from thr mic and abgle it away from you, that way you won't get the 'pprrfttt' noises, i liked the 'thomas's train reference' too, don't know if that was intensionel though! I saw my name :) take care

  • Great Stuff. nice one =D ma nethew is over the moon

  • Thank you very much. The second episode is on the way! Next week hopefully.
