I still think this movie brought back science fiction.

It nearly got nominated for an Academy Award for best special effects, but the award was canceled at the last minute since there were no competitors and they didn't want to give it to an X rated movie.

And then just three years later that awful Star Wars series started, and was originally going to be about the adventures of Flash Gordon, but they barely disguised it, with fortune cookie aphorisms and earth-toned bath robes.

I was at the Academy Special Effects Screening in 1972 and we lost out to Silent Running. However none of my shots of

Nesuahyrrah were shown which I think was a mistake.

The picture was not released until 1974 but had qualified

in 1971 by a few late night screenings for which I still have

preview tickets.

Nope, when it was released it was rated "X". In the 80's they released it with the sex scenes cut out (along with one or two other scenes) and dropped it to an "R". I have no idea where you got "PG" from.

You can get it on DVD from NetFlix, and it IS able to be copied -- I mean, backed up 8)
