  • The line about companies not being able to find american workers to fill the tech jobs is a complete fucking lie. There is NO shortage of American tech workers. Companies pay less to the H1B people than they do American workers, and even less when they outsource to India. Saying that H1B caps are hurting the economy is a ridiculous lie!

  • Well ,it;s a disaster. The tragic part is, the people who pretend they will fix it, are the same who brought us into this situation. There always were enough people in America and Canada + natural immigration through gamily reunification. There always were universities and people willing to get the education needed. BUT there always were also people who no matter how much money they make, they want more more more and are willing to cheat, lie, and betray their country to get more.

  • Does everyone know who Kamar Aulakh is? He is the faking Indian conman grifter who enarly destroyed software powerfhouse Quark. He was a tester who conned the board into making him CEO. He became CEO, laid off all the American developers who built Quark, and sent all the work to some mud puddle Indian village. The company almost went under as a result. The board finally found him out and fired him but the product had been destroyed. Google on "Quark Debacle".

  • India's workers are ranked 124th in world worker productivity. Americans are ranked FOURTH. And people seriously expect Indians to help the U.S. economy? HELLO? What's wrong with this picture?

89% of H-1Bs are Indians according to the U.S. DOL. And our economy is a disaster because of them. Deport them all now and watch what happens to the economy.

  • Yes - I do think America is hurting its ability to compete in a high-tech world - by importing 3rd world morons who can't do the work and keeping the American IT workforce out of jobs.

Funny how BEFORE we started importing all these people (1990s) we had NO PROBLEM competing in high-tech. Now, 10 years of imported guest workers have devastated our economy.

if you want America to compete in high-tech, deport all the Indians and put Americans back to work.

  • Only a fool who does not value what he has does not want to protect it.

We should not open all occupations to global competition because other countries are not opening their borders to foreign competition. Japan, India, China - all massively protectionist.

When FOUR MILLION Americans can go work in China and take jobs away from Chinese citizens, come back and then we'll talk.

We should not open our most valuable jobs to idiots because they destroy those jobs.

  • If these people we are importing are so smart then why are Americans TRAINING them? Most of them come from the 3rd world and have fake verifiable degrees and can't even remotely do the work without being trained by Americans first. I have worked in software for 16 years and the Indians we import will not hire Americans. They HATE us because of British rule of India 150 years ago. People have been making this argument for 10 years and look at the economy now. Put Americans back to work.

  • What are the producers of this segment smoking? 200,000 tech visas? HELLO! The number is close to TWO MILLION.

The caps were increased to 115,000 each year in 1998 and again to 195,000 each year in 2000 until 2003. This doesn't count the millions who came in on L-1s which are in the MILLIONS.

So it's FOUR MILLION people, not 200,000!

As for the Indian's claim they make the companies more competitive, look at the state of the economy!

  • Oh BTW, Carol Lin is hot as hell.

  • H1-B is a FRAUD. The imported workers are being TRAINED by Americans. As a 16-year veteran IT worker and author of 18 commercial software products, I have seen the lies firsthand.

"What is byte-swapping"?, "Why can I read this file on a PC but not on a Mac"? Without Americans training them Indian workers are what we would call 7th graders. Most of their degrees are faked and they aren't even remotely skilled. Yet we have imported 4 MILLION of them to take jobs in the U.S.

  • Why should qualified U.S. workers be passed over for positions to permit companies to hire workers from abroad who will work for less? That process simply depresses wages in the United States while exploiting foreign nationals working in this country. It is unfair to everyone.

  • H1B is a sham. 75% of my company where I work is all H1B.

  • They should remove the H-1B cap. It is a supply and demand global world and if Billy Bobb is dumb enough, i would take a foreigner to do the certain job. Stop listening to racists and nativists such as Dobbs, Tancredo, Senator Sessions, and other mistakes of nature.

  • What "race" is is Shitdian, you nasty ass turd world shit skin?

  • How about opening all occupations to global competition?

What justification is there for protecting anyone?

There is always a shortage of labor when the goal is to pay zero in wages.

    Are you that stupid?

  • Here's the truth - the H1B Visa system is a complete sham below the visas are being used to fill entry-level Bachelor jobs and as a result internationals are coming and taking our entry level jobs that that American college grads are getting shut out of. I know this because I work in Human Resources.

  • well there you have it it pays less then doctor, or lawyer thats the problem, bussiness wants to exploit them

  • I have tried for an interview in MS when am working in MS as contract employee. The interviewers most time do mention they prefer American ctzen over H1B .And yes the process for H1 B visa intervew s very tedious.

  • Being from poland and as a new computer science grad from American college my experience was exactly the contrary. It took 3 months for me to land an OK offer while most of my American classmates got offers earlier than me. Many companies came to the on-campus job fair with a 'No sponsorship for H1B's', because of the saved cost and hassles from the immigration procedures.

It is clear that many companies will not sponsor H1B if they can hire an American.

  • can you even write original letters you got to cut and paste the same garbge everywhere

  • The reason the universities are filling these slots with foreigners is because native born Americans no longer see a degree in math or science as a ticket to a long, good paying career. So, foreigners are used to fill the slots to keep the universities going. Note that the guy featured in this report has been here ten years and is still in school. Doesn't look like much demand to me.

  • I am the guy featured in the video. Just to clarify my position, I have been in the US for the last 12 years. I have completed my bachelor's and master's degree in Computer Science and have been working in the software industry for the last 4 years.

  • Only 30% of your time so far was apparently spend working; that leave 60% paying tuition and sitting in class. You look more like a consumer of educational services than a scientist chucking out patents, the H1Bs earning > 150K/year. How much over 100K/year do you earn in your SI job? Can you give me a list of patents that you have filed? How about legit companies you started. ;) Peace!

  • I feel no need to explain my skills to justify your concerns of a legitimate foreign worker. It is no secret that high tech companies around the country are facing huge shortages of skilled workers because of the lack of Americans with such skills. Visa caps are further crippling these companies. That is the point of the story.

  • >> Visa caps are further crippling these

    >> companies

Name one. Who is filing for bankruptcy because they couldn't get a H1B worker? MS, Intel and Dupont, the companies bankrolling the current H1B lobbying effort, all just reported record earnings. Are you saying Microsoft is about to fail? Peace! :)

  • Well, now that you mention it, I happen to work for Microsoft. Yes, they did report record earnings (based on their current employee count) but for their future growth, they also have set up shop in Canada (in Vancouver BC), because of their inability to hire foreign workers in the US. So, YES, Microsoft is being hurt by the current Visa laws.

  • >> Yes, they did report record earnings

    >> (based on their current employee count)

    >> but for their future growth

H1B cap dropped back to 65K/year in 2005 and MS has still had almost three years of record profits. Your suggestion that MS needs H1B for future growth just supports critic's assertion that H1B is a cheap labor program. MS cannot significantly improve its produces or increase its market share. All MS can do is slash labor costs.

  • I think you don't understand the H1B program at all...I went through the tedious process of trying to prove that I am qualified to be working in lieu of an American...and Microsoft pays me the same amount it would pay any American.

  • >>I am qualified to be working in lieu of

    >>an American...

That process is highly questionable: the fact that there is now law pending in Congress called The 2007 H1B and L3 Visa Fraud Prevention Act, seems to indicate that most of the politicians don't believe that. Peace! :)

  • well I would say you came in when there was real shortage but now there is no shortage.

  • Bullshit, you dothead!

  • sure

  • get serrious Micosoft throws your application in garbage if your white and over 40 -- really i very sick of B.G. racist remarks to congress. I applied once for music/programmer position for which i was perfectly fitted for I never even got a response back. For sure MIDI experts and harmony experts are somewhat rare bird - but of course i lost in the shuffle, bill can't compete with google thats the problem not h1b visa

  • go fuck yourself dothead!
