1. Is your tv high definition or normal 480i vga? If the latter is true you would normally go to the text installer.

2. Are you sure that the dvd is working correct? Have you remembered to burn it as an ISO file and not just like a data cd with the ISO file on it?

Normally you should be able to install linux on a low-def tv but it will do so via the text based installer.

I would personally try it on a high-def tv.

No! It is absolutely vital that you have a mouse and it has to be WIRED or with a matching wireless usb dongle. Bluetooth mouses WON'T work!

Not as far as i know. You will have to boot back into the game os wich you can do by clicking on the applications button on your desktop and then click on "boot game os". From now on your ps3 will load into the game os unless you change it like shown in the tutorial.
