WWE hast its own talent-searchers. The look for talents in various indy promotions. If they find someone who seems to be good enough, they will try to put him into WWE NXT - if he does it there he will receive a contract from the WWE. That's the easy way to explain it. In reality it's a little bit more complicated..

@jurrell1986 I do blame the writers, to a certain extent. But, that doesn't excuse the fact that Cena is, at best, a mid carder. Always has been, and, unless he changes, always will be. i didn't mind it so much pre 2006, but by now, he been around long enough that, good writing or not, it's evident that his skills are not up to full roster standard. Also, there have been plenty of wrestlers that got pushed practically as hard and still show cased a wider move set.

@jurrell1986 I do see what you mean, but my point is that many wrestlers have far more diverse move sets. Cena has his five moves of doom, and that's about it. In nearly, what nine years, John has never even attempted to evolve his moves list. So many other wrestlers have expanded in the ring, or will at least shake things up now & again. And there are few wrestlers on the roster that have both good mic and ring skills.

@jurrell1986 You're right. Back then, I did like, even love Cena. I don't now. Why? His gimmick. Back in the day, when he was all "ruthless aggression", when he was the Dr. of Thuganomics or the the Chain Gang soldier he had a lot of passion & drive. Also he wasn't shoved down out throats constantly. Now, he's really shown that he's not that great of wrestler, his passion fades in & out, & his Marine "U Can't See Me" thing is, weak. If you like him though, that's cool.

@jurrell1986 I do blame the writers, to a certain extent. But, that doesn't excuse the fact that Cena is, at best, a mid carder. Always has been, and, unless he changes, always will be. i didn't mind it so much pre 2006, but by now, he been around long enough that, good writing or not, it's evident that his skills are not up to full roster standard. Also, there have been plenty of wrestlers that got pushed practically as hard and still show cased a wider move set.

@jurrell1986 I do see what you mean, but my point is that many wrestlers have far more diverse move sets. Cena has his five moves of doom, and that's about it. In nearly, what nine years, John has never even attempted to evolve his moves list. So many other wrestlers have expanded in the ring, or will at least shake things up now & again. And there are few wrestlers on the roster that have both good mic and ring skills.

@lycanfan actually hes added a few moves in his money in the bank match he pulled out all the stops even cena haters said he did good so he improved on his ppv ill give you another example randy orton is the john cena of smackdown has the same moves every night scoop slam back breaker clothesline rko and once in awhile punt kick but nobody ever says anything about ortons moveset and the only reason why u say others switch up their moves is because they get injured and disappear and come back

@jurrell1986 I totally agree with you about Orton. I hate that guy. I don't hate Cena, but I don't like him either. Orton SUCKS. No charisma, boring moves, poor in ring ability, no mic skills, shitty gimmick. Why do people like that guy!?
Anyway, some wrestlers do have very diverse move sets, which allows them change it up every match, & many change it up simply because they can.

@jurrell1986 i agree with that. cena is very good at what he does, but its the writers who put him in every storyline and basically force-feed him to anyone who watches. i stopped watching after it became the same thing week after week. not because of cena, but because of the decrease in talent/writers

Funny thing is that 10 years ago Cena was one of the most talked about young wrestlers out there. Everyone who fancied himself a 'real' wrestling fan knew who he was and didn't have a bad thing to say about him. Now the same type of fans are shitting on Cena and talking up new indie wrestlers who they would also hate if they ever got as popular as Cena. Funny how the world works.

No one talked about Cena when he was in OVW. No one cared about him when he was the tenacious WWE rookie. In fact, he wasn't even a blip on the radar until he dressed as Vanilla Ice during the Smackdown Halloween Party. Then he became the "Doctor of Thugonomics" and the rest is history.

@AnimayeIsGaye Well actually he was mentioned very frequently in wrestling magazines at the time, was the OVW champion and the fourth runner-up for PWI's rookie of the year in 2001 behind Orton, Lesnar and R-Truth. So no mate its a well documented FACT. Also they don't just let anybody come in and dominate KURT FUCKING ANGLE in a debut match and throw them into storylines with other top guys (Edge, Undertaker, The Rock, Jericho) unless they're related to somebody important which Cena is not.

Just because Apter rated him high doesn't mean the wrestling fans knew or cared who he was. That's like saying that because Negro Casas rated high in the PWI 500 back during the "workrate years" of the mag that N.A. wrestling fans were clamoring his name or even knew who he was. As for the Angle match, he got in offense...it wasn't like he did a Desmond Wolfe on him.

@AnimayeIsGaye Of course if you're not in a major promotion like WWE, most fans will not know who you are. And they're not supposed to either. Its up to the fan to seek out wrestlers and learn about them. Many "smarks" don't get this concept and felt CM Punk should've been treated like Goldberg when he first signed. Being a 1st generation wrestler and out of thousands of indie guys, being mentioned in a huge wrestling mag is impressive. Plus debuting just below the top is also a rare privilege.
