I started doing that to my dog Luna before watching this video, and she learned how to as quickly as that dog! She also knows her name, Sit, stay, Get the Cat, Up, and to fetch the ball! I trained her myself with no help, and I am only 13! :D

here's a tip. if you want to keep your animal unconfused make shire if your talking to *them* keep eye contact, if your talking to someone else take your eye off the pet to prevent it from thinking your still talking to the animal. :)

my puppy already knew how to sit in command and learned her name in 2 days.Shes almost 3 months.You might think shes smart but thats the only thing I can teach her...She looks dead when she sleeps and shes a deep sleeper and I kept shaking her for 2 minutes and then she woke up and fell asleep again like nothing.So cute.

@KoolBoi815 Sometimes my puppy do that to. I just try to ignore it or distract him, so that he doesn't get frustrated/confused by me not praising him for it.

I'm not an expert at all, but have you tried just waiting for him to sit? At least my puppy will try different things if he doesn't get a response on something. So after a while, if he lays down when I want him to sit, he'll start to get frustrated and try to sit. Just don't give into giving him praise when he doesn't do the right thing!

@burqeen I taught my Pug puppy, (year old) this trick about 15 minutes ago.The dog doesnt have to concentrate on you, if he concentrates on the treat, bring the treat over to your hand that you want the dog to shake, the dog will then be able too see the treat AND your hand that you want him to shake soo he/she will see it in action while concentrating on the treat as well. hope this helped :D

@riskyjattpbd My dog doesnt like ppl touching his paw either cuz of the vet cutting his nail too far causeing it too bleed, my advice would be too slowly start doing it so that he understands you arent going to hurt him, once he realizes you mean him no harm, add some speed too it slowly each time, then at normal speed. my dog didn't really mind me touching his paws though considering of the vet problem, so i didnt really have a problem of this, hope i helped :D

I've trained dogs before and found the paw/shake hands thing to be fairly easy. But i've just rehomed a rescue German Shepherd (normally a v smart breed just not mine) and he is 5 and doesn't give the paw. I've tried every day several times a day with food and toys to teach paw but with no luck. He just DOESN'T GET IT! how do we move forward? He is also awful to walk on the lead whenever he comes near other dogs. Great with them off lead but has no recall. Any help would be great!

Aha, so that's working with a normal dog, so how do you teach "paw" if a dog is traumatized by someone clipping his nails WAY too short & making his paws hurt? We adopted a dog, but he will NOT allow anyone to get near his paws. We were told the people who had him did that to him, and that's why he's terrified of anyone touching his paws.  Any ideas? He's only 8 months old. We have no problem with our 11 year old girl, but it sure would be nice to be able to clip the youngin's nails myself.

paulandashia - we had that problem with my rescue dog aswell - just start very slowly getting him used to having his feet touched. Start by teaching him that when you touch his feet it's a good thing, give him a treat when he lets you touch them. Slowly start introducing the nail clipper, just touching his nails with it, once every day. be sure not to move on until he's totally comfortable with the current stage! good luck :)
