this sounds pretty spankin now. Seemed 2 me at the time it was underpowered compared to live. You'd not believe the loudness and delivery of the rhythm section. i was a teenage Randall fan. Saw him in a punk band called The Flies, then transitioned to Scruffy. I was kind of a head banger, and Scruffy got me a window into country rock, straight ahead, good sound, no bs. Loverly bunch o' mugs as well.
Great times dancing, listening, and partying to Scruffy the Cat. Would love to hear "Ghosts" and "She Moves Me" from their earlier repertoire. I'll have to dig for Metrowave WERS cassettes for those ;o)
Really wish this stuff could be re-released on CD - my cassettes are a mess and I miss blasting this stuff on Saturday mornings as I shake off Friday's hangover!
GREAT BAND SEEN THEM ABOUT 40 TIMES, BOSTON WAS THE PLACE TO BE IN LATE 70s EARLY 80s. I ALSO MISS THE RAT AND THE CHANNEL, SPIT,STORYVILLE. BEST CITY IN THE NORTH !!!!
love this band so much! lost my well-worn scruffy cassette, yes...a tape! years ago. would love to hear "gonna write yer name upside-down" again! Hey Randall! (sorry, just tryin' to fit in) cheers
wow!! all of our stuff is available for free , im randall thanks for all the great times!!! we were young together and having fun thanks again !!you people are cool
my hat goes off to you sir! the guy at the record store had both of your albums and highly recommended them so i bought both! thanks for producing some fantastic tunes! wish i was alive back then!
Yeah, those were the days. 120 Minutes on Sundays, Headbanger's Ball on Saturdays...then they decided they wanted to be a "real" network with "real" shows and completely ruined it.
Jesus F. Christ. Scruffy, Del Fuegos, The Turbines, Mission of Burma, The' Hoods, Dogmatics, Blackjacks, Pixies, Throwing Muses, Real Kids. Classic Ruins, Unnatural Axe. Whatever happened to our rock scene? I need a beer!
Charlie Chesterman still playing around Boston, and still great. The 80's were great in Boston but many are still playing: Hoods, Burma, Dogmatics, Ruins, and the Axe.
Yeah, but outside of Richie P. and the Hoods re-union, I think they pale to their past incarnations. My ex-guitar player, Bruce Allen plays in a band with Carl B. (formerly of CR) called Doom Buggies, and, I dunno, I'd rather hear a new band than guys my age trying to re-capture the magic. If they start a new band, that's one thing, but re-assembling for a moment of the old feeling is bogus. Name me one NEW kick-ass Boston band that compares to any of the above.
Nothing new to say, just adding my own astonishment and elation to have found this video. I lent and lost my Scruffy CDs years ago... anyone know where I might find them for purchase?
I love Scruffy the Cat--I saw them at the Stone Church in Newmarket, NH back in 1986. I once had an album (or bootleg) of theirs with this as the first song and Land of a Thousand Girls, Love Never Forgets, Shadow Boy, many more--I think it's the greatest album no one has ever heard.
Scruffy was everything. Saw them at the Rat Dec. 6 1986, at the Channel some time in Feb 1987 I think, then a long drought as they toured for Tiny Days, and.... finally... the return at the Channel July (3? 1?) 1987, one of the finest moments of my life. Thank you, Scruffy, for the amazing times. There really was nothing like them.
Nice - we met Mac Paul in Cincinnati when STC played Bogart's on the Moons of Jupiter tour. Very nice bloke. We were bummed they didn't play "Betty Drops In" but now feel guilty that we told him so.
Scruffy was a group that went a unique way....sadly, that meant a non-commercial way....and so much of the shit that was pumped out sucked so much....
I miss this music! I guess I'm now officially old - screw it. Can any one help me find reliable LP's or such of Tiny Day's and Moons of Jupiter? This is THE band of my youth and I lost my copies. Sad, I know.
I miss them. Spent most of my 20's going to see them EVERY DAMN WEEKEND. They owe me some brain cells, but they'll always have a HUGE place in my heart.
YES! I've been waiting a loooong time for someone to post this! Together with the Long Ryders, STC provided the soundtrack for my teenage years, and they're still in my Top 5. Thank you.
Saw the lead singer give a keynote address at a Umass Boston comemcement in94 -95.Scruffy the Cat was in the past tense. Nice speach though.
