  • I can't believe I'm the only one saying this: It's Doctor Who: a Celebration, not DW confidential.

  • Also, anyone else think Ben Foster, the conductor is REALLY cute?

  • @doctorwhofangirl22

Reminds me of David Tennant oddly enough lol

  • I liked Neil Hannon's version of it too. I jut love Hannon's voice SO SO SO MUCH.

  • This song is heartbreaking.

  • Lol he got the lyrics wrong he said

"Cause you are my star, and that's what you are"

    When it is

"Cause i followed my star, and thats what you are"

  • It's the prom not the confidential

  • @Darkhelyna not the prom, DW: A Celebration, Cardiff 2006 ;)

  • This was such a great version of such a great song! I'd like to hear John Barrowman do a version of this someday. :D

  • Wow. This is beautiful quality - and I didn't know the iTunes version was missing the last bit! Thank you so much for posting the video.

  • Anyone else think he kinda looks like Pete Tyler?

  • This song made me cry the first time I heard it. Even if I hate Rose...

  • These lyrics are gorgeous. :l

  • 7 daleks don't like the song :(

  • @Sabyna2009 The Cult of Skaaro maybe?

  • Can anyone tell me where I can find the MP3 version of this?

  • @moviejew From this video.

  • I love this song!!

  • i have no idea who Gary Williams is, sorry

but i love the last part

Our time will never come again

But if you can still dream

Close your eyes it will seem

That you can see me now and then...

Well I wish Rose Tyler and Meta-Crisis Doctor a good life....

  • which episode was this song shown in?

  • @msjingles1 The Christmas Invasion, the wardrobe part :)

  • @LadyaLL96 thanks

  • @msjingles1 The first Christmas Special ... when he was first David Tennant.

  • Love the final refrain. It feels like a real conclusion to the song. The album version's ending kinda deflated the energetic spirit. And the original version was just cut off too soon. :)

  • That was very well done and written

  • Murray gold is right up there with John WIlliams for me

  • quality song love it

  • hmmm, don't like this nearly as much as tim phillips. tim's voice really added to the spirit of the song. tim's version had that jolly spirit of the Tenth Doctor.

gary's voice is kind of....well...a little gay.

and 1.11, he totally messed up the lyrics there. 'cause you are my star, and that's what you are? it's: 'cause i followed my star, and that's what you are. which actually makes sense.

  • ooo... lyric fail at 1:11

    "'Cause I followed my star..."

  • @Exayevie Though I should add... this still makes me tear up every time! Sometimes I cut out before the end cause I don't want to get too sad.

  • You're voice sounds fantastic Gary! Great job!

  • I have got to get the sheet music for this.

  • Gary Williams' version of SFT > Tim Phillips' version of SFT

  • Excellent , sang beautifully .

  • Hi! I were wondering if im the onlyone who believes this song start out in Chritmasinvasion but kind of ends up in doomsday? you know what I mean? "When i woke up today and you are on the other side" "oceans apart" like some sort of a spoiler?

  • The end of the song WAS written about Doomsday. It was added to the song later. Originally the song was shorter :)

  • i know! i noticed that when i saw doomsday! i was just listening to it after i saw that episode andi just thought "hey! i need to pay for attention to the lyrics in these songs, there might be more spoilers!"

  • Apparently they added in that verse.

What a greats ong though, really...

  • he sings to slowly...the original version in the christmas invasion is so much better!

  • yeah, gotta be honest, I love the Christmas Invasion version the best, for whatever reason, it's just my favourite

  • I actually like this version. I think it's more emotional when sang slower. But that's me

  • 0_o

    And the song is dead.

Does he remind anyone else very slightly of Mr Lumic in Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel? XD

  • yeh he does kinda look like him

  • been saying that for ages lol

  • Yeah Mr Lumic or maybe the older Pete Tyler

  • i think he looks a bit like bowie, in a way

    looks only, not sounds

  • this one would be the best version if he didn't screw up the "and I followed my star" line...... :P

  • It doesn't seem so bad... variation is always exciting

  • This is the 10th Doctor's theme.

  • Why were the lyrics different?

  • Probably to reflect what had happened since it was originally written between the Doctor and Rose.

  • Good news, folks! This shithouse 'performer' has not been invited to perform at the Proms with the rest of the Doctor Who music performers. Tim Phillips, original and best singer of this song will be performing.

  • And Phillips was godawful. At least Williams could sing. This version is still superior to both attempts by Phillips and the one by Hannon. (However to be fair to Hannon his version of Love Don't Roam is far superior to Williams'.

  • Quite agree, he was shit, but still better than this crapfest singer.

  • This version is a mess. It killed that concert. The kids and the adults didn't know what the fuck was going on

  • exactly

  • I thought Neil Hannon's version was better but even Tim Phillips is better than this bloke!

  • I love this song ^_^ its so good and well performed

  • His delivery is very Marc Almond!

  • A good version but I agree with the majority that it appears a little under rehearsed and I really don't think his voice is up to it...maybe Gary Williams should have a think about his career and decide whether he wants to do corporate videos or singing and stick to it! Makes you wonder if he draws his inspiration from Alan Partridge hehehe...

  • I agree. It was horrendous.

  • this is the best version

  • Well I woke up today And the world seemed a restless place It could have been that way for me And I wandered around And I thought of your face That Christmas looking back at me I wish today was just like every other day 'Cause today has been the best day Everything I ever dreamed And I started to walk Pretty soon I will run And I'll be running back to you 'Cause I followed my star And that's what you are I've had a merry time with you I wish today was just like every other day...
  • Tripping over a line is not a huge deal. This version is far superior to Hannon's AND Phillips'. For one thing Phillips never even recorded a full version with the new verses), and I heard a soundtrack version of the Phillips recording and I thought it was really wimpy, to be honest. OTOH Hannon's version of Love Don't Roam was better than William's.

  • It is total crud. It killed the concert almost, to finish with these.

We'd just had the most amazing performance of Doomsday, then these two crapfests were slotted in between Doomsday and the Doctor Who theme. The kids lost interest by this point.

  • Well said.

  • he doesn't even know the lyrics! get this guy of the stage!!!!!!

  • This guy didn't even get the lyrics right. He said "cause you are my star and that's what you are."

when it's supposed to be "cause I FOLLOWED my star and that's what you are."

    Tim Phillips version forever!

  • WELL MAYBE HE CHANGED IT A BIT SO WHAT!

  • WELL MAYBE HE CHANGED IT A BIT SO WHAT!

  • The BASTARD :D... I still love it!

  • Tim Phillips Version is alot better for the youth audiance cause other versions like this one is too proper and adult like in my eyes...but it's only my opinion

  • Everyone whines about the Neil Hannon version and pines for the version that aired on TV - even though it didn't have the new lyrics. But for my money Gary Williams' performance here is far and away superior. (But I like Hannon's Love Don't Roam better than Williams' version)

  • Well keep your money, dear. Gary's versions of these songs are shite.

That concert went from fantastic... to utterly fantastic (When Doomsday was performed) to completey shit when this dude came on. He just killed the atmosphere.

  • You're kidding, right?

This is the best performance of this song by a country mile.

  • Really? I must have been at a parallel universe concert to the one you attended.

  • You must have

  • Or maybe you didn't even attend?

  • Duh - given that I've posted 2 videos that I took at the concert what do you think??. It's always handy to use your brain before making a comment.

  • Oh... those two shit ones of the cybermen. Wow, brilliant.

At least others got full performances.

  • Sounds like Neil Hannon...

  • Neil Hannon wasn't as good as this guy.

  • i guess everyone can argue neil hannon versus gary williams forever and ad nauseum but in the end we all have different opinions.

  • Affter seeing this...deffinitley Neil Hannon, Why didn't Gary Williams sing it for the CD?

  • The way that he's standing at the end, almost silhouetted, feet spread, arms away from sides, almost reminds me of a picture of the Tenth Doctor that I've seen.

  • <3.

  • Gah, I love this performance, I've replayed it a hundred times, and suddenly I notice that metronomish woodblock tapping away from the beginning, and now it's all I can hear - incessantly pounding into my mind! Sorry in advance if I've ruined the song for anyone :P

  • He's apparently forever separated from the love of his life, but he say it's the best day of his life?

    Um, yeah...

  • This song plays during the Christmas special between seasons 1 and 2, the seperation doesn't happen till the end of season 2.

  • gary is the best ever

  • Gary is fantstic at singing this song it was from the xmas invasion 2005 xmas it's call i wish today was just like every other day it is so sad i was crying whewn i first sang it i love this song thanks again mate reply ur the best u rock???

  • Its called "Song for Ten" =]

  • He's not too bad! I like him!

  • First time I've got to hear this. A nice voice- less dour than Neil Hannon- though perhaps a little under-rehearsed; would love to hear this guy's voice on the studio version, though as most people seem to agree, nothing beats that original, joyous little burst of the song in the TV version!

  • stop making nasty comments on my uncle! he's good!

  • Not a good performance. He should not have been allowed to close the show. Doomsday should have closed it. The Singy Lady wowed the crowd better than this guy and she didn't need to mug it with a microphone.

  • SEXY GARY!!!!W00T!!! ;D

  • Hmm. I liked the original version; it didn't sound quite so camp. Hey, I love Neil Hannon, but... hey, it's not even Neil! Who the hell is this guy? He's not very good.

  • I like the original too, though we never heard it with the final verse. I really didn't take to Neil Hannon's version, and this version by Gary Williams is the best, IMO.

Neil Hannon's 'Love Don't Roam' is terrific, but I just don't think he was suited to this song.

  • why is this guy singing it tho? what is the reason

  • i like both and gld there is many version but this one is less homely and x-massy and happy and sad and friendly cuddly and aww and memoryish and i dont just mean cus it was in the ep. tho maybe it helps. i mean u would imagine the doc or rose listening and thinking to the other comefy less technical singing one right?

  • This is the 10th Doctor's theme.

  • Who sings this song in the Christmas episode? It doesn't sound like him. I like that version better.

  • Neil Hannon, some popular Irish singer

  • Im sure it was Tim Phillips?

  • I can't believe they composed such a great song, especially a song for a TV show.

  • It's from the Christmas show '05

  • i love this song its just brilliant.

i like it by this guy.but who's the original singer of it?

  • Neil Hannon, some popular Irish singer

  • The version used on The Christmas Invasion was sung by some guy called Tim Phillips. Neil Hannon sung the version on the official soundtrack, so this Gary Williams guy it seems is the 3rd person to perform it. Personally, I like the music of the TV version best, which would be awesome if Hannon sung a full version of it.

  • wow, did not realize, thanks for clearing that up, I think that Hannon was the best one, however

  • Yeah, I think Hannon is the best person to sing it, but the actual music on the Christmas Invasion version is the best in my opinion, so it's a shame they didn't keep the same music and have Hannon singing it, on the soundtrack CD. Check out Hannon's band, The Divine Comedy, if you like his style.

  • Oh ok..its already been said..mabad..

  • In which episode do they play this song?

  • christmas invasion

  • Great Song

  • Not as Bad as Neil Hannon, not as good as Phil Specter.

  • who? i mean is it related to this? i dont know him

  • I just LOVE this song!

  • brilliant... heartwarming... the purest form of the British spirit put in song as doctor who is the British spirit in its greatest form in sci-fi.... Magnificent

  • Yeah!!! "I wish today could be like any other day. Cause today has been the best day. Everything I ever dreamed. And I started to walk, pretty soon I will run. And I'll come running back to you"

  • that bit makes me think of Rose and her runnning tot he 9th Doc, and also the bit abut how life could have been something for her but wasnt cus she used to be bored

  • Finally a normal concert version!
