it's 1964 during their european tour that promt "BABY LOVE" to top of the #1 charts in the UK. They had to sing early songs because it was before their other ten #1 song with DMF.
@arab3515 It didn't last long. The JFK assasination, MLK and Bobby K assasinations. 1967 with the drug culture, all blasted alot of the innocense away in the US.
Wow! Never knew there was video for this song, which may very well be their first charted hit. At least it was the first one I ever heard growing up in D.C. in the seventh grade around '62/63. One of my favorites!
Music now has definitely changed...far removed from the melodies and vocal abilities of artists into some beat box machine made sounds...disappointing. I kind of make my children listen to everything, including the Supremes...They have to know there was once such talent, and that talent changed the world! Can you imagine, my mother was banned from listening to this because of their race! How awful, Diana Ross is amazing!
Diana is about 50 yards away from Mary and Flo. Shades of things to come when the Supremes Reunion Tour came to be. You drive a jumbo jet between Diana and the New Supremes!
What a treat to be able to see these early clips now. What a classy, graceful, talented group they were. Today's music seems gross and unpleasant in comparison. Diana's voice is beautiful, but it also is unique. When you hear that crystal clear voice on radio or tv or recording, you don't even have to wonder who it is. What a talent -- and what ground they broke in this country's civil rights struggle!
One of my favorite Supreme songs - it shows their harmony which was kept soflty, almost unable to be heard - in later recordings. And you can hear Flo belt it on the ending. I found it annoying then, and unless their later hits are remastered so you can hear Mary and Flo, it's annoying today. Although Diana is a star and brought the world enjoyment, it's sad that Mary and Flo were marginalized!
@skateitalian Have to agree about the harmony...this shows it off even more than the wonderful studio recording...this is one of my all-time fave Supremes sides
This is in an era when singers made the music with their voices. They didn't have access to digital enhancing devices, or computerized gadgetry. Listen to their voices here, and you can hear just how talented these young women truly were.
carolinaguy321: My thoughts as well. Also, notice how they step back from their mic at the song's end for that "fade out" effect. I like the way they dance with style, and not "trashy" as with so many girl groups today. They're both gorgeous , too.
Awesome...one of my fave Supremes songs...so sweet sounding and looking...they didn't have a pure girl group sound IMO for long...but this still stands the test of time
Mary and Flo are TIGHT!!!! They sound great. Diana's holding back and is being out shined by the girls, for a change.

Skinny Diana's padded dress is almost falling off her. Note the polite applause for the then upcoming superstars.

DooWop, by the Supremes?! What year was this, 1963?
Amocabana 2 years ago
Well, their debut album (that this song is on) was released in 1962 (and re-released in Stereo in 1965 once they were massive).
This song was the 4th and last single off the album and was released in November of 1962

These ladies could sing. Young female singing group should be taking notes or study this video and they did not need any
electronic help in the studio.
