  • DON'T LOOK AT THE LIGHT!!!!!! no seriously, the blue light on the mxr pedals WILL bling you if you look directly into it. But otherwise this is a great pedal

  • Great demo Paul. Love my carbon copy! Other delay pedals I've had or tried got in the way, whereas this one blends into your sound, rather than thinking "oh, there's that delay again..delay again...delay.." still keeping my Boss DD2 for those tunes that suit digital delay

  • Killer demo. I just traded my Boss DD7 for one of these. I am very, very satisfied with the sound of this pedal.

  • I actually lol'd at 1:05 - thank you all for pointing this out.

  • Excellent demo....tough choice between this and the Way Huge Aqua Puss....

  • @unhafrotcguy same

  • @unhafrotcguy im having the same problem i cant decide between the aqua-puss, two-timer, or this one have you made a decision if so could you tell me what made you choose thanks

  • cool demo paul

  • Pretty cool pedal. Just got one on ebay, can't wait to try it out! Where did you get the cool hat by the way?

  • Anyone have a good early Van Halen delay setting for the carbon copy ? Better before the amp or in the effects loop ?

  • Aren't these pedals made in the USA?

  • boring........

  • Joe Satriani "Searching" shout out solo..

  • does this have any options for backward flange ringmodu 8 bit fizzy shimmer reverbey chimming choir like octave/pitch melodic options. i hope it does because my guitar cost 69$ dollars at dons music works

  • @hijpot LOL

  • wich is best.. this one or the TC Flashback?

  • @MrManson94 I'd go for the EHX Memory Boy or a Malekko Echo 616

  • here comes the ufo!

  • wich is better? this one or the dd3?

  • @frozenroby all an opinion type a deal man, what kind of stuff are playing?

  • @Sean2592 i'm playing kind of classic rock, but more as a cream style, i mean we are just 3 and we need to fill some more and i'm not sure. thanks

  • @frozenroby no man classic stuff is analog stuff and i'm playing some Van Halen and use the MXR it's worth the price. Anything before like 2000 i'd use analog distortion, but that's my preference.

  • @Sean2592 oh thank you very much, i'll get one of those carbon copy

  • That's a beauty! I'd consider this before wasting time and money on an old Boss DM-3 that may have been tweeked by some bandit before selling it for big bucks on E-bay!

  • Great demo - actually better than MXR's own demo.

  • This or Vox Time Machine or Boss DD-3????

  • @agentelectric Just picked this pedal up, this is a for real genuine, lush analogue delay pedal. The boss delays are going to give you more flexibility as any digital piece would but as far as sound quality goes its hard to beat an all analogue delay.

  • @agentelectric i would definitley go with the MXR it rocks! ive had a boss DD-3.... theres nothing special about it, if you want a reallllllyyy clean sound and your willing to spend the cash buy this one :D

  • @agentelectric this pedal deffinetly true by pass and its real clean i had the boss dd3 but i sold it and i got this its way better

  • earthquake at end lol

  • what's the guitar Paul's playing?

  • @MichaelD8393 ESP EC-1000

  • @MichaelD8393 ESP Eclipse

  • paul is so good =]

  • this knob tells you how much delay you want and this knob tells you HOW much delay you want.... mkay. thanks

  • how the fukkk did he get the tone at the end :o

  • @RideTheLightning1995 Analog delay mayhem! =oD

  • what would you choose between this and the dl-4?

  • @alejo2564 i took both. gotta love it.

  • Paul R. is awesome.

  • great pedal, man. great playing too, congrats.

  • dude, you have to work on 'choosing the guitar' for a demo.. anyhow thanks.. nice pedal..!!

  • WOW!

  • I want that pedal to play Searching from Satriani XD

  • I didn't know you could look so gay holding an awesome guitar...

  • @Android31419 I agree but I don't want to since paul's a great gear review guy and doesn't have the slightest bit of arrogance.

  • very kool dude

  • 1:10 funny position

  • nice, i was planning on getting the aqua puss delay but i think the CC sounds just as good with longer delay times...

  • Great demo Paul!

  • i have this pedal it is beast!

  • Guys just get the Deluxe Memory Boy. It's a lot better value for your money.

  • Did God make this pedal?

  • That last part was freaking awesome! I know exactly how i could use that in recording...

  • this is a great sounding analog delay... unfortunately they tend to die after about a year.. the construction is terrible

  • how did he get an eclipse to sound this thin?

  • Sounds really U2!!!!

  • that ESP is a beauty^

  • I have a DD-3 but want a delay unit just for Modulation Delay / U2 covers.

Would it be better to get the Boss DD-7 (which has Modulation Delay and really long delay times) or MXR Carbon Copy? Does the MXR have enough delay time for most of the popular U2 tunes?

  • @odgeUK if ur doing U2 stuff, most people would say get the EHX Memory Man Deluxe coz The Edge uses one. its a really good delay pedal, but if it's a little too much, then the carbon copy would be a great choice.

  • @mozzadagozza Thanks mate. Yeah, I've had a little look at the Deluxe Memory Man XO and I have to admit it does sound slightly better than the CC in the clips I've heard. BUT.....it's got a much larger footprint, can't be powered from my Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 and, like you say, is a fair bit more expensive. So on balance, the CC does appear to be the sensible choice. The El Capistan Delay pedal is the best I've seen so far but the price!!!

  • @mozzadagozza if you want the edge's tone you NEED an old deluxe memory man, cause they were made with american made chips not chinese or korean. its an insane difference and that pedal, even if not used for delay, makes your tone magic

  • @epitaph664 yeah, the old ones are the best

  • Michael J. Fox and Steve Zahn had a son.

  • @tonewheelz Hahaha! Spot on!

  • @tonewheelz looks like an even wimpier david spade to me

  • 1:03 looks gayish aye... but he rocks though =P \m/,

  • What does he mean when he says lots of guys drop the front end of the amp to get a doubling effect?

  • @richedie I think he said drive the front end.

  • @mikecosgrove How does driving the front end of an amp get a soubling effect? Driving it with an OD or the Carbon Copy?

  • @richedie I believe he means driving the front of the amp by just turning it up. I am not sure if he uses an overdrive in this demo because he only wants to demo the Carbon Copy. You could however use an overdrive pedal to drive the amp at a lower volume.

  • I just sold the Malekko 616. It was a solid, made in USA analog echo but sometimes it felt too bright, and in TB mode the dry signal had too much hi-cut, but not in a good way. It sounded good, but from day 1 I wondered if I should have got this instead and I will get this next, and if I miss the 616 I'll just trade it for this again

  • What guitar is thaT? Looks like an ESP?

  • @MrDannnxD yup, its an ESP Eclipse

  • I like the way he hugs hes guitar!

  • A lot of people don't realize, Paul' a great lead guitarist...I've seen some vid's (not particularly this one) where he just blows my mind w/ some of his playing.

  • is the pedal used in the fx loop in this video or directy into the amp input ?

  • @ilunaticul

    FX Loop

  • It's frickin Michael J Fox!!

  • I'm surprised he's using an ESP for this. Most people think the actives can't give a tone for anything but metal. This shows you that's not true.

  • Paul rules!

  • John Martyn was better at the rhytmical delay idea anyway, and that was in the early 70's! The Edge more or less copied from him, and took the credit for it as his signature sound. Not that it's considered any kind of original invention anway. Well, steal from one person it's theft, steal from loads of people it's research.

I have to say, for once Guitar World did a pedal justice with this demo.

  • i've heard rumors dimebag darrel from pantera used this to double his leads, any conformation on this? cause i'm thinking of buying a good delay, now doubting between this and the DD7 cause that one has a loop, but this one kicks ass too, but would mean i'de have a seperate looper...any advice?

  • @HeritageDirt the dd7's loop is horrendous. it gets dirty far too quickly. it's also a digital delay, not an analog delay.

i absolutely love the mxr cc, one of the best pedals you can own.

  • True hardwire bypass is not the same as True bypass. In true bypass, the effects circuit is disconnected from both input and output signals, giving you 100% unaltered tone.

In hardwire bypass, the circuit is still connected when the bypass is active. In theory this should work, because the effects circuit should offer high enough impedance that no electricity flows through it while the input channel is open. In reality, some electricity still goes through the circuit and changes your tone.

  • una octava arriba y el primer segundo sonaría igual que sweet disposition

  • I have that guitar as well as that pedal. Hm.

  • do those "far out sounds" damage in anyway the amp?

  • @SealMyAss no not at all.

  • I have to say, this was actually a good demo.... I'm empressed

  • I bought a used one, and geez I can't wait for it to get in my hands!

  • @Sim2322 Thats what she said. Hahaha.

  • my band covers assistant to the regional manager by the devil wears prada, and this delay is thye best for that song... only pedal i use

  • @riderdude10; @flukenukeem; 1:05 minutes into it, overdubbed with some funny dialogue, this video has comedy gold written all over it!!!

  • Good demo as always; Paul rocks!

Although 1:05 minutes into it, with the sound turned down, Paul looks like he's inviting the Pedal to a Gay Tea Party!

  • Fucking comercials

  • @kharlos84 download adblock u wont get them anymore

  • 1:08 lol

  • screw U2

  • Guitar World Magazine !

  • Damn, I love that ESP

  • this guy is gay

  • I'm sorry, and I don't mean to piss anybody off if I do. But I like Pro Guitar Shop's review of this pedal better, cause the enphasis of the video is on the pedal and its settings, not the guitar playing. This is still a good demo of the pedal, but I personally would like to see the settings. Again, I don't mean to piss anybody off, if I do!!!!!!!

  • its not even a les paul its an esp which i feel should be burned for even attempting to make a guitar like the les paul

i think its stupid that people cant just make their own guitar designs instead of tweaking other designs there are too many companys doing that

  • @severia123 People buy what they know. The les paul design is iconic, which is why everyone and their mother makes one, because they know people will buy them.

  • @severia123 I agree with bertziethegreat, but the esp els paul is nothing like the gibson? other than the shape theres nothing similar to the gibson.

  • @NZLeduc yea i take back what i said earlier the guitars arnt that bad but at my local guitar store they have esp's and deans i prefer the dean but they are both good guitars

  • @severia123 dude, esp has made many of their own shapes

  • @ripcliffburtonrip send me some pics or links to see it or even names

cause i have yet to see an origenal design

  • is this the fashion channel ??

who the fuck cares the clothes he wear ??

this is a fx pedal demo

  • Oh yeah, besides bashing on Paul for being a femme, dressing like Fidel Castro at a John Mayer concert, and generally sucking at anything but bluesy strat licks...srsly, leave the lp at home man, and stop demoing metal guitars and amps and....ok I am losing myself again. ANYWAY just wanted to say this delay looks incredible for the price. Between this an a DL-4 for the looper, variety, and presets.....but this one sounds better and colors the tone less.....dammit.

  • Oh, and holy shit @ 1:05. My gay-dar just pegged out, more than it usually does with this guy. And why is he talking directly to the pedal?

  • 6:12 - 6:58

    awesome

  • Using the mix knob, what does wet/dry do to affect the tone/

  • Who in the hell wants to hear 6:39......

  • gay caca

  • 1:17 haha =)

  • Can anyone help me, if I should get this one OR Carl Martin Delayla (NOT XL) ?

  • lol at the end

  • Don't know what to get, this or the memory toy??

  • there is no best... there's what sounds best to you!

  • what's the best MXR carbon copy, vox timemachine or tech 21 boost dla

  • what is better this or vox time machine?

  • hey my carbon copy turns itself off does anyone else have this issue?

  • replace your battery?

  • i dont use the battery

  • @g35crazy look at where you're putting your feet?

  • lol @ 1:06 ... is he talking TO the pedal? and hugging his guitar?

    what a weirdo

  • ANDY > PAUL! PGS > GW!

  • @CaptainErn Fuck Paul...I especially hate when he busts out thse faggy hats he probably picks up from Musician's Friend. Seriously, Fender has this whole line of shitty hats and I swear this guy owns them all.

  • @flukenukeem

i'm glad that i haven't seen those hats.

  • @CaptainErn just check out the "apparel" area on musician's friend...ugh.

  • @flukenukeem amen to that. he probably owns those fender boots too

  • @BoothJudas ROFL good call. I had to look those up. Amazon is out of stock o nooooooes!!! "Inspired by the American icon that is the Fender electric guitar, they have created shoes designed to rock as hard as you do." = faggy redneck Uggs for dudes. Goes well with skinny jeans and ironic cowboy hat.

  • lol y u mad tho?

  • super sayain 4 : D

  • I' ve had this pedal for a year now. its amazing. Its my first delay and only one so far. After studying about digital and vintage delays I never knew how unrealiable, tone sucking and expensive some can be (EH, Boss etc.) But I would never known only having own this one because its one of the best, easy to use and affordable delays out there!!! ANALOG for christ sake!!!

  • its an awesome pedal i picked it u up some time ago and i loved it

  • why is this thing better than the boss dd7 ?-

  • That tone sounds like what U2 might sound like if they were from Louisiana.

  • yah he shouldve switched to his neck pickup

  • u2 uses memory man

  • i don't mind how big it is.. big pedals are cool though.

  • i really like your demos!!

  • how do you set up the pedal at 4:55 ???

  • intro song so reminded me about Paul gilberts Echo song..

then he went "Hi, im paul" and i went wtf?..

  • Just got it on sale at Long and McQuade in Canada for $135 CDN...Awesome deal!

  • Same here, great pedal eh!

  • does someone wants to still his guitar at 1min06 ?

  • @Revolver902

Geez, stop whining and just watch the demo.

  • is it ok to have a mix of analog and digital effects on ur pedalboard?

  • yeah, it's perfectly fine

  • i like the led its blue :) im getting this. for a trade for my poly chorus

  • I have both Ehx memory boy and an MXR carbon copy and faired poorly against my Boss DM 2

  • THIS THING IS AMAZING

how much is it I really wanna know?

  • It goes for $150 at my local Guitar Center.

  • 4:21 sounds like van halen's finish what ya started

  • Just got the Carbon Copy.

It is Line level, +7 max input and +8 max output.....however there is no way to set unity gain.

Egnater is line level. In the Egnater manual, it talks about adjusting unity gain with the amp. I have a dedicated series loop and dedicated parallel loop. In both loops, especially the Series loop...having the pedal in the loop seems to make the amp louder. Then when using distortion, such as playing a lead line, if I kick on the M169, my volume noticably drops!

  • turn up your pedal?

  • I love the MXR Carbon Copy. Wonderful pedal to use for dark cascading delays, plus the modulation is not over the top like on the Memory Boy. I've tried the new Memory Toy and Memory Boy from EHX which are both pretty cool analog delays, but I just prefer the Carbon Copy.

  • I have one. I have it behind A dyna-comp, TS-9, Muff pi Russian into a Blues Deluxe and it sounds awesome!!! You can get the craziest sounds from it or you can get the purest sweetest delay. Blows the boss outta the water by far in my opinion. GO WITH THE CARBON COPY!!

  • For some reason, he makes this box sound better than what I've heard from the Memory Man. Now I'm confused as to which one to buy : >/

  • I would go for this, its more bang for your buck if you ask me

  • ah this one man its awsome i tested loads and this one is soooo nice. And simple too

  • this pedal seems to be worth the money. think im gonna try one of these bad boys

  • This is probably the best analog with mod that sounds almost natural.

  • iam embarressed to say i got the memory boy and its crap. if you turn up the wet signal it reduces the dry???? how bad a design is that? i am going to save for this boss dd5 s ok but a bit digital

  • EHX pedals are unique, you may lose some basic qualities but you'll gain unique ones, and they often add add'l options that expand the spectrum, I get bored with MXL and Boss, EHX allows you to explore sound.

  • remember that the problem with boss is the tru-bypass signal, they reduce your gain..

  • Anybody know what guitar he's using?

  • esp eclipse

  • would this work for welcome to the jungle?

  • would this work for metal or shud i get the dd-6

  • how does he get that dotted eighth in the intro?

  • Fuck yeah!!! I'm going right now to buy it!!!

  • i got one!

fuck me, best pedal i've ever bought/played

  • just got one. cool pedal, nice warm sound

  • I wish they would make this without the mod switch and bring the price down. I already have a great chorus.

imo this pedal sounded better without it anyway.
