  • measure once more the gas burning speed, but this time in a little bit more darkness so the flame is more visible, use a higher speed camera like the fuji hs10 for example! good job !!!

  • Good demo Pete.this theme is a real winner and you should stick to doing a few more demos in respect to speed of burn. Maybe some cheap measuring instrument can be used just use the old imagination bait. Cmon amuse me with ingenuity.

  • That gas doesn't burn... it explodes!

You can see the entire length of tube "light up" as he clicks the lighter.

    Excellent demonstration.

  • what kind of camera are you using?

  • To:chelloplayer128

Sony Handycam HDR-XR500 From Best buy. This was recorded in the highest definition setting on the camera for superior quality transfer without editing. Any editing causes a degeneration of the quality of the video. I hope this is helpful.

  • DUDE !! that was to fast to calculate by eye . i have seen a ten foot lenth of hose ( 1/4 inch ) for about a buck and a half . your gonna have to add more hose . Maybe its worth 15 bucks to see just how fast it burns ?

  • To:uawwildbob

$15??? To have length = to a mile, I would need to by 212 twenty-five foot hoses. Each 25 foot hose costs about $2.60. That would equal $551.20. If you have the money to donate, I'll get the hoses? OR maybe we should leave it up to Myth Busters and let them put up the money to test this concept. If someone wants to contact them so that they contact me, I will do the test with Myth Busters involved.

  • @pjckac1 yes your right dude . the only true way would be to use one of those slow motion cams to see how fast it realy is . Or if ya could count how many frame's it took to complete the burn from your test ? . just a thought . It shure is some fast ass shit dude. I wouldnt trust Mith Busters to count how many stars the earth orbits . another great post . thanks

  • @pjckac1 --- Great answer. Good demonstration .. showing the speed of Oxy-hydrogen fuel. Unmatched, clean, powerful and light . and ANYone can MAke there own fuel. Thanks Pete

  • Bickety bang!

Just a shot in the dark guess, but I'd put the flash time to probably somewhere around 1 1/10th of a second. Too bad you didn't have a sound switch, would love to know how fast it really was just out of my own curiosity.

The ignition was not longer than a second. You hear the button of the lighter without lighter fluid in it click creates a spark igniting the gas that becomes a mini torch for less than 1 second that it implodes at the speed of 8 miles per second reaching the balloon.

  • @pjckac1 Figures, my recent ex-girlfreind ran out on me and took the calculator.

    Okay...8 miles per sec/0.09 miles....no paper or pens either..great....

    Ahh, screw it.
