Its really to bad that these protesters would rather see trees eventually rot and or burn rather than have them provide jobs for a struggling industry along with income for people who live in those communities. The reason for this? Demand and regrowth. They plant seeds for new ones right after the area has been logged. They also use sophisticated software to track and map certain areas when they are ready for harvest.

Stupid Tree Huggers need to understand something, logging is more than a job for people, it's food on the table, it's a way of life passed down from generation to generation. And another thing hippies, once they finish the harvest, the area is replanted for their grandsons to harvest. My friend Alex fed his family buy legaly cutting those very trees. It must be nice to have no job and live in your 1.5 million dollar house on the beach, Lots of time on your hands for silly protests. In regards to your second sentence, I would suggest that a shortage of wood fiber is the least pressing of our natural resource needs when it comes to sustainability. Part 2 of this video seems to indicate that logging was kept off of steep slopes and any areas that might have suffered from site degradation due to harvesting.  The protesters suggest that they have a far more emotional attachment to the trees than just their soil stabilizing qualities.

The forest inventory in this area is cut way to far down. In other words, once you cut all the trees there arn't anymore trees.
