1st- depending on how it is set up (around here you won't know until its instated), i may not be able to choose the physician i want to be seen by. the only options that will have will be what the gov. is willing to pay for (treatment, drugs, facilities, etc). this is not freedom.
2nd- my taxes will go through the roof. many americans cannot afford to pay for some other persons healthcare. if someone opts to not ....

Actually I am a liberal, in fact I consider myself part of the left wing of the Democratic Party Maybe. I've been involved in party activism since I was old enough to walk. I don't think Obama is all that liberal if you look at his actual policies. As far as progressive positions, Edwards was the closest thing by far. Obama's positions are much more corporate friendly and he had to be dragged to the left on issues such as health care.

Racism is generally understood as a power-based term - i.e. when those of one particular 'ethnic' group have institutional control above other 'ethnic' groups. We are talking about the US here, so because the ultimate institutions of power are controlled by "white people", racism refers generally to whites. If you're comprehension skills are lacking, reading, listening and thinking usually fixes the confusion.

While flawed, I participate in the system and vote for the individual whom I believe to represent my understanding of the requisites for the leading of this nation.
This tends to mean a liberal philosophy. I disdain the two-party system, but I recognize it's potency, and will choose the more liberal of the two main candidates for president.
I prefer libertarian to authoritarian and liberal to conservative politics. I vote thusly.
I know what's happening to us. I dont see it as stoppable.

I AM liberal. Unapologetically so. I dont view socialism as evil. And it's not because I dont know or understand what it is.
I did like Ron Paul, but I'm not a Libertarian(party) member because I find more commonality, sadly, with the Democratic Party.
I've seen enough of politics for 3 lifetimes. I will do my duty and vote. But I dont feel the need to justify myself to anyone.

I respect the humanist foundations of this document, but can't help but be afraid of the limited interpretation of it that is used by such folks to denigrate the fundamental idea I see it holds, which is to ensure that people (in the US and the world) are safe, sheltered and free of threat (which universal health care is a part of)...and happy.

michael- not all racists,yes- from my experience growing up in the south, racists are less educated and choose to remain ignorant because it comforts them. things outside of their realm of knowledge (aka politics, foreign cultures [domestic and abroad], etc.) frighten them. those same racists (black and white) also say their vote doesn't count, so they don't vote. they are also too lazy.

tarttatin- this i a concept which most of the world doesn't understand.
1st- depending on how it is set up (around here you won't know until its instated), i may not be able to choose the physician i want to be seen by. the only options that will have will be what the gov. is willing to pay for (treatment, drugs, facilities, etc). this is not freedom.
2nd- my taxes will go through the roof. many americans cannot afford to pay for some other persons healthcare. if someone opts to not ....
