I stumbled across this video. Very interesting. She was very intelligent in address. She had a point about the use of the Native American images. You have the right to choose whether someone else can use your image or likeness so do the Native Americans. We see it everyday. In business, movies, music, vehicles, and every other product out there. And maybe Beverly is speaking from experience. Her analogies are right on point. No matter how dissimilar they maybe, at the heart, they are the same.
Now as far as her "age and era" I can look @ Bev and her wrinkles and tell she was on the rock throwing side of the civil rights movement. Therefore, using words like nigger and colored boy comes quite naturally to her..it always has!
Before you judge someone (by a comment that has clearly been taken out of text), try learning something about the person you so quickly pass judgment on. You might learn that she is anything but a racist! Not that your YouTube comments will condemn her future, but ignorance is not bliss my friends...
I agree we do not know Ol' Bev for the wonderful person she may be, but we are here to comment on her ignorance. That's why we watch these videos...to laugh and learn. I don't believe she's a racist...I believe she said what comes naturally to most "typical white women" of her age and era. I'm shocked she didn't say colored. Let Ol' Bev know I got something for that filthy mouth of hers...OPEN WIDE BEV!
Your posting is totally vacuous. You say you're here to comment on her ignorance, but yet you make no relevant, poignant or significant statements. For some reason you may be laughin' but you obviously ain't learnin'. You say you "don't believe she's a racist" so what's your beef? So what do you know of her "age and era" or life experience?
Please school us! Sometimes people say somewhat shocking things for the extremely important purpose of prying open ignorant and fearful eyes ,not to offend.
I guess that went over your head. And if by "filthy mouth" you're referring to the "two" words she used to make her valid points then you really are lost. And that "open wide" crap, not cool.
Thanks for responding in such an intelligent manner. Now, my beef is w/ Beverly's analogy or comparison. There is nothing endearing about mocking someone's or some race's heritage. The double standard exists, I don't agree w/ it but it does. However, the use of the N word by the black community is in no way justification for a predominantly white school to use facets of the Native American culture and mock it. The ATL Braves had to stop and so do you...it's mockery...not flattery.
I don't think she's racist; she's indirectly trying to get people(like George Carlin did) that there's no such thing as "good" or "bad" words and language; it's only the context that determines on whether is should be said or not. her usage of the n-word was there so she could her point across. She might also be tired; thus, she might have made these "racist" remarks. She has lots of valid points.
This woman should resign and do the right thing
