therein lies the the debate. the war was authorized by congress (a de facto if not actual declaration of war) so the war was legal. osama bin laden was merely one of thousands who were part of the muhajidin given assistance by the cia and not individually important. both the aid to the muhajidin and the restoration of the iranian monarchy in 1953 were cold war actions to counter communist influences that may have been detrimental to western security.
