Art today isn't the problem. The problem, if you choose to call it that, is the people making art. Or more accurately, the world that surrounds and informs the people making art today. How can you criticize the work of people who are reflecting their reality; their fractured mutated deranged unnatural digitized sampled cloned hybrid instant-ready push button on demand never quiet never alone world. Today's artist's instincts and impulses are just fine, it's the source material that's the problem
@KingKook Duchamp's work was in part a response to the technology of his time and its effect on the culture as he saw it happening. How is something like that bad fodder for art? What would be a better thing to draw inspiration from?
@kingshighway123 Your question is interesting and provocative, however it is oblivious to the fact that our world is increasingly terrible. The terrible, terrible reality that informs contemporary art is the problem. Do you comprehend? Do you even consider what you say or write or type before you say or write or type it? You are a silly, annoying, tedious, pest. Good day.
Take a look at my generation. There you will find trains, the Finnish army, the beautiful scenery of Finland, folk music, sailing ship Sedov, martial arts, sports, art exhibitions, animals, animation, a lot of Super 8 films and other interesting stuff!
duchamp went to buenos aires to play chess, and he made his own chess set, but he didn't make the two toughest pieces, the knights, because he lacked the talent and skill.
The History of Art: 1. cave painters 2. realistic painting 3. distorted realism 4. mental notations 5. performance of mental notations 6. intended bad boy art
7. large spectacle art . Today the exhibited artists have no spiritual map, and should return to nature and the cave for something new.
@burrito21 he speaks about Cartesian (from Descartes). The cartesian coordinate system. Opposed to Einstein's model (relativity) where there are more Dimensions than 3 in the universe (the 4th dimension was a huge debate for the Avantgarde in the early XXth century) and every object has its own origin point.
Hey, did you know theres a retrospective of Nat Finkelsteins work (featuring Duchamp) from 20th Jan - 14th Feb at a gallery in London called IDEA GENERATION you should check it out! :-)

A chicken has more things of value to say than an artist or artist impersonator. Problem is, chickens are very private with their opinions.
