My 2 question is:

If you look at this guys face he have shadows, if you know what I mean. Is this caused by shaving against the grain? I'm very worried that I will get shadows like that, because that's very ugly! Is that the cause? Please tell me!

@BamBoJam No, men shave against the growth to try and get rid of the shadow.. it comes from having a thick beard and dark hair. Its normal, if you have blonde facial hair then you probably wont have it

Can somebody please help me! Im 16 years old and when I was 14 I started to shave for the first time. Me and all of my friends shaved against the grain just to get the nice smooth face. But then I realized if I continue I will get ingrown hair, which is REALLY ugly! After 1 year I started to shave "with the grain".

I just have 2 questions:

1. Im not a expert on hair so I just wonder, is the damage already done? Will I get ingrown? My facial hair is not thick.

What do you do with longer beards? Do you cut it first and then shave or is it ok to use a razor several times to get it off?

@emptybrink a "razor sharp" (or brand new catridge), good preperation (splash with warm, almost hot water for 3 min), a cream or gel (no can foam), then a lot of very short movements and often cleaning of the blade.

@emptybrink I've done this a few times, what I did was cut it with scissors as close as I could, then used a razor for the remaining. I think if you were to just use a razor over and over your skin would be very irritated because it would take a lot of passes.

Bollox. He specifies how you should, naturally, shave with the direction of hairgrowth, then he proceeds to shave sideways over his neck hairs. (You can clearly see the hairs around his Adam's Apple is growing out to the sides, like they do normally.)

I have tried a bunch of expensive things to shave with as well as the cheapest (soap) and the best I've found is Noxema. Smells great, cleans and protects face, has enough "drag" and lube to be very effective and it's cheap. Just my experience.

I have always shaved up, one stroke per area, on my neck since 16.

Hey i need some help with neck shaving. You know how cheek hair comes out and hangs down? well my neck hair grows up (lol prob for some other ppl too). I was wondering do i shave my neck from up to down, which would be going against the grain, or do i go with the grain by shaving from down to up. I shaved it once going up to down. Please someone give me some advice thanks a lot :)

Rule of thumb for shaving: shave with the grain first, then against it on the second pass. On the second pass put plenty of pressure on it but go slowly.

I use an electric shaver, but i do wonder if it isn't just a good idea to go back and use the old fashioned way. This video is right on the mark for me, cause i've been going against the grain and shaving upward when obv as you say you're meant to go with the way of growth so thanks alot man.
