My mentor took all of his good riding horse ( tenn. walkers) out on the fox hunts at the local club, they also competed in gaited class shows. The only precaution you need to take to jump a gaited horse is the same as any other horse-make sure they are grown, in decent shape and take things slowly. Otherwise, most gaited horses can jump just fine.
i was told, that gaited horses shouldnt jump because they could mess up their legs really bad. but you seem to be doing perfectly fine [except for the hit pole]
gaited horses actuly jump really well it can actuly mess up there natural gait not there legs like my paso fino stallion i jump him but i wont go over a foot till i know his legs are done growing because gaited horses take longer to grow
yeah i ride a gaited horse and I was always told that she shouldnt jump but shes actually a great jumper. shes done growing and I've njumped her 3 feet before and she really loves to jump. I normally jump her around 2'4"-2'6"
@EAEquestrian What are you talking about? Gaited is a term used for horses that have additional gaits besides the walk, trot, canter, gallop. For example, the Peruvian paso, paso fino, tennessee walker, mountain horse, missouri fox trotter, and much more.
@EAEquestrian Oh haha my bad! I hate how the comments are like not stringed together when someone comments on another comment. Wow i feel stupid and now I see that! I have 2 spotted TW mares. I know what you mean, I actually thought gaited horses over rated till i got one haha now i love em' ^_^
@randomblond92 No it's completely fine, I understand whatcha mean. Aren't they awesome?! I wanted to stick to hunt, but my instructor introduced me to my boy, Rhett, and there was no way I'm switching back.
@EAEquestrian They are ^_^ I love it when I am out on the trails with friends and they'll all be cantering. Me? No, I am chilling with an ultra smooth running walk. They are such awesome animals. <3 love my girls
@randomblond92 I know what you mean, I went trail riding with some friends last year, and they were complaining that they had to trot to keep up with my walker while he was dog-walking...imagine if I had asked him to gait! LOL Awesome horses.
Wow he looks really good! Most gaited horses dont do too well in jumping but he looks like a pro at it! lol(:
