If the pickup has a 4 lead wire, can you connect it to a guitar without coil tap or anything that splits it? A guitar that's stock pickups are 2 lead wire not 4.
Yes, it can be done, no problem. I have an Epiphone that I changed the pickups on, and the pickups I put in were 4-conductor, but I don't have any coil tap or splitting capabilities. It will work just fine, but you can always rewire things so you have the option.
with the JB work with texas special single coils? I have a strat, but would like to install a humbucker in the bridge. any thoughts? looking for something gainy
because I wanted to change the pickup to my traditional, which features the 57 'classic's, with the Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 pro, I wanted to know if I made a good buy or not I ought to
Looking change up my main guitar tone. I play through a Peavey Classic 50 with the basic pedal configuration. Stuck on Jb/jazz or Super Distortion/Paf(dp103). I mainly play aggressive rock 'n roll. Any suggestions?
U know im about to buy these for my strat style guitar. Its a Laguna model. i like the sound and i play a lot of rock, but these are really popular with les pauls. so do u think this would be a good match>?
Great demo. That ZZ riff is way to compressed with this combo. I prefer the 59's, to me the JB is like squeezing the tone out like toothpaste, wile the 59 is like pouring the tone out of a bottle. another great pickup now is the DiMarzio 56. It has less string pull to help your sustain.
I've bought a lot of these sets and the only complaint I've had with is they are evidently designed only for non-trem guitars because they don't offer the JB in a trem spaced in the set. All of them are standard spaced.
@ProGuitarShopDemos I've got a TB-4 lying around here. I don't know much about "trem-spaced" stuff. But do you mean the TB-4 is just like an SH-4 but trem-spaced. (and what exactly is "trem-spaced")
I also got an SH-2n is there a difference with an SH-2 without that last 'n'? Because I don't really find much about it. Thanks for your time. You guys make great reviews and it's the first time I see your face in stead of only hearing your voice in a video :O
@16YearsInHell - The TB-4 is the trem-spaced version of the SH-4. "Trem-spaced" means that pole pieces are spaced properly for a guitar with a tremolo, as opposed to a hardtail. It could also be thought of as Fender spacing vs. Gibson spacing. The "n" at the end of the pickup model number indicates that it's intended to be a neck pickup. Seymour Duncan's site has all the info about every pickup they make, including sound samples. It's an excellent resource. Thanks!
A fantastic pickup combo. I have them in my Gibson SG, with a push/pull. Incredible tonal variety, as you can hear in this video. I play without a pick, so the slight brightness of the Jazz really works to keep the articulation. I'd recommend them to anyone, playing any style.
i'm thinking in buying these pickups but i have a question: since they are high output does that mean that they have crapy clean sound? i play on a Vintage VRS100 (PRS imitation) and the music style i play is from Queens of the stone age to Nirvana, Kyuss, Led Zeppelin...
@Blowmint These come as stock in the DK2M, I just got mine a few days ago :) I love the JB, hot rodded a cheap strat with one last year and loved it then, still love it in my new Jackson. As for the Jazz, I love it for cleans, it's a bit weak for the kind of leads I play (heavy metal) but clean-wise, I've never played a better neck humbucker :) hope I helped.
@kennytheamazing I am doing this to my Epi SG. Just upgrade the pots because the stock pots are pretty weak and you won't hear that much of a difference from the stock. At least that is what was recommended to me. I am throwing a 5 way switch into the package too, to get that split coil options. It is going to be the unassuming epi sg with swiss army capabilities.
@punkiassjunki seymour duncan and dimarzio and emg are pretty much the big pickup brands. They are all great and used by pro musicians, but i matters on what u have and like to hear. i think gibson guitars go best with seymour duncan, because it will give you a nicee warm tone . dimarzio i like with ibanez, and emg for heavy metal, but it matters on what u want, what kind of guitar do u have?
what pickups would be best for modern rock but they have to clean up when you turn your guitar volume down? they don't have to be seymour duncan but that would be nice
will this combination definitely improve the sound of my les paul standard? I kinda feel like there's something missing, but am afraid of wasting money on something that wont really change much. sorry i dont know to much of seymour duncan but i hear they are awesome so, which pickups if best for have a power distorcion and a good clean sound ? i hope you can help me thanks
You don't have to put them in a gibson, it could be an epi or other cheaper guitar. You don't have to buy a top end amp either. He tests lots of gear for all different sizes of pockets, it's just this is what it says on the tin.... an SD bucker test. SD pickups are not hugely more expensive than others, you get what you pay for.
I'm a struggling college student who managed to get a Gibson LP Custom with no hardware or electronics, demos like this help me gauge what kind of pickup I want to put into my guitar .
Its not how much money you have its how you use it, most Gibson owners pay what most people pay for Epiphones.
I have this combo in my Ibby RGT42. My other RGT42 has a Full Shred (B) and a 59'er (N). That combo is smoking for anything! FYI, both are Mahogany bodies

i would go with an invador, synister gates uses it in his custom guitar and it sounds good.
for the neck i would go with an SH-1 '59 model
but not me im getting the dean signature MAB hands without shadows
if it is the price though that alters your decision most, then you might as well go with the Hot Rodded Humbuckers

@dacuriel its good, but metal require active pickups like EMG's or Blackouts by SD. the invader is also good

you dont have to have active pickups for metal the majority of metal players use passive.

How do you split the coils?
bfv102290 2 years ago
You have to wire it a certain way and get push/pull knobs in order to do the actual splitting.
There's plenty of wiring diagrams on the Duncan website that you can check out.
Hope that helps!
