lol i have the exact same coin box it used to be a whisky set with glasses , i have it loaded with all the jewlery and coins i found also go figure eh
Funny you said White's Smurfmaster--ha ha. I used a Surfmaster one time and the thing leaked as I entered the water and ruined my hunt---My 1280-x was good for freshwater but not worth a crap at saltwater hunting --but had one of the best waterproof seals of any unit I'd used---My 1280-x never leaked on me. Wallace Chandler wrote a book about the 1280-x that will fire you up and make you want to find some gold rings---he hunted in the Michigan lakes and even found a ring worth $25,000 buckos!
@micmoable I shouldn't pick on the Smurfmaster (I have to credit my buddy JohnF with coming up with that) too much as it was my first water machine and I did very well with it. But I did miss a ton of stuff as I'm re-hunting the same spots with the ATP and cleaning up. The CZ's were great also, but I'm finding out that I missed a lot with them as well :( I'll look for that book, it sounds inspirational.
@aquachigger I liked Surfmaster PI but the one I borrowed leaked that time in saltwater--had to quickly take batteries out, rinse with fresh water and then pour bottle of alcohol in control box to evaporate water out--after a time of drying out, it worked again I was told but I never used it again. PI's are good for saltwater but I think I'd rather have EXCALIBUR for salt and maybe even Fresh water--AT PRO sounds like a good one for freshwater coin and relic hunting though--ha!
@micmoable I haven't used it myself for more than 15 years. But before that I used it in both. I still loan it out, but that's mostly freshwater. I'm not sure if it's the original or SM II.
@ComeOnYouBoyzInBlue There are several kinds of electrolysis. This kind is basically just passing an electric current through the iron object in water with a special solution. Thanks for checking out the video!
what other types of water metal detectors do you use besides the garrett ones? I've owned some pulse detectors and a VLF type for water hunting and have used a few more that I borrowed also---never used a Garrett water machine though--but have used Garrett land machines--and have owned many different brands and models of detectors over the years
@micmoable Besides the Garrett's I have a Fisher CZ-20, a CZ-21 and a Whites Smurfmaster. I just started using the Garrett's this past year for relic hunting in the water and they are by far the most versatile machine for the kind of hunting I do. Of course, results may vary.
@aquachigger I have hunted with a CZ20 a few times but didn't own it--it did okay in salt water but I believe it would be excellent in fresh water. You and others seem to really prefer the AT PRO----makes me want to try one sometime--ha
@aquachigger I am a writer myself-I also have a book planned for future publication---I'm a long-time writer for a popular treasure hunting magazine and have owned many many detectors over the last 28 years. I have saved information for a book about my adventures for over 8 years. Maybe we'll read each other's book--ha ha. I've enjoyed your videos immensely.
@aquachigger I was looking last night online about Kindle Publishing at Amazon.com. I've got a bunch of short stories I want to publish as a collection------This detecting/treasure hunting info I've been saving for 8 yrs or more and I add more info to it every now and then. It will take some serious sifting and sorting to get it organized and to remove any info that I is unnecessary. Then the writing will take some time--no rush. What publishing method will you use? Any ideas?
@micmoable I haven't gotten so far as to look into publishing. But I hear Kindle is cheap and can generate revenue pretty quickly. Right now I'm writing for American Digger Magazine and formulating the bones of my book. Might have to wait to next winter to write it as the summer will soon be upon us!
@aquachigger Yes, summertime means waterhunting time in the rivers for you----dang I'd love to go hunting right with ya'll--ha ha Looks like ya'll have some premo good river sites to search and good finds to back it up--ha ha
@Tiggaplz1 For now, I'm just going to hold onto them. But I do plan to loan them for a time to my local museum in the near future so others can see them.
Best advice I can give you is to first find out if you enjoy it enough to buy good equipment. Do that by joining a local detecting club or find someone on-line that will take you. If you supply the place to dig, someone will gladly show you the ropes with no cost to you. If you like it, then invest in the equipment. Good luck!
The pike is a great find, still find it hard to believe that pikes were used in the civil war, when I first found out about rush's lancers I was very amazed.
@Civilwarbulletguide Thanks. It was a crazy time for the military. There were so many new improvements in technology at that time, yet the war makers fought their hardest to keep using the obsolete equipment and technology. It makes for interesting collecting now.
People use rivers for dumping grounds. It's actually been historically a good place to get rid of stuff, especially things you don't want found. Also, for example, if you were wading across a flooded river in winter and dropped your musket, bayonet, or ammo box, chances are you would never find it. Especially if you drowned in the process...
Awesome finds! Just curious, I can understand why there would be so many fishing sinkers and even bullets (shooting ducks or even fish perhaps), but why would there be so many huge shells, firearms, brass buckles, coins etc., lost in the streams and rivers? Just seems like an unlikely place to find those kind of relics, as opposed to on land.
Most water finds are pretty clean when I find them. The iron is run through electrolysis first and then boiled in wax. That seems to work pretty good. Thanks for checking out the video.
I just have to ask if you work for Garrett. I also use an AT Pro but it seems you really push that machine. The coins are unreal. Most of us would find one of those coins and it would be a find of a lifetime. You find 170+ of them...
@TheJerseyDigger I don't work for Garrett. The AT Pro is just the best thing to come down the pike for me since the CZ-20. It has made a huge difference in the amounts of my finds even in my old spots. I probably should tone down my published enthusiasm for it though as that seems to really irk some people. But it does get tiresome to constantly be asked "what machine do you use and why?". My videos and magazine articles will always answer that question up front. Thanks for checking it out...
@aquachigger I hope you did not take that the wrong way. I always mention what I am swinging as well. Again I swing the same machine. It just seemed like you did work for them with the way you promote the AT Pro and with your videos of hunting with the Garrett brass as well as you being on their site. So did any of the coins you found turn out to be any key dates? There has to be some. Did you do a final video of that hunt yet?
@TheJerseyDigger Not a problem. In the past I've praised First Texas with the F-75, CZ-20/21's and the T-2. If I use a machine and like it, I enjoy spreading the word so others can benefit as well. As far as the coins, I haven't seen anything that really jumps out at me yet. I will cataloged everything this winter after the ground freezes and I can't dig anymore. And the "final video"? All I have is another hour or two of me digging coins and saying, "check it out"....
@aquachigger My bad. I thought you were going to do a video of those coins you found laid out on the pool table too. Maybe showing the dates of each one...Thanks for your answers...
@TheJerseyDigger I did do one of me digging them and showing them at the end of the video. I didn't do a close up of each one though. Did you see that one? It should be near the top on my channel.
Awesome stuff man. I live in alabama and alot of the battle sites are state parks no metal detecting allowed. Are the rules different if i enter the park via creek and keep my coil in the water? just thought I'd ask. It seems like I heard from some where that natural waterways aren't protected. Nice work man.
@texan21b Thanks! I wouldn't go anywhere near a park without first checking with the rangers. Also, every municipality can have different rules, so it's always best to check with the local law enforcement officers before you dig. Good luck!
Man I got to pick my jaw from off the floor.....and grab a towel to mop up the drool! Some AWESOME, simply awesome water finds my friend. Thank you for sharing and congrats to great summer of diving and diggin!

WOW! The pistol is probably an Harrington & Richards .38 S&W, early guns were black powder cartridge guns, later guns used standard modern cartridges. Not like you're ever going to be able to shoot that one.
Nicely done Beau! I been waiting all summer it seems for this video to come out! I agree with the other poster that this looks more like a lifetime of finds and it's amazing you found it all in one summer! Have you sold the movie rights yet? LOL! I'm looking forward to the coin video. Have you any theories about the 128 coins in that spill? Thanks for sharing with your finds with us! Best wishes and HH, Dave.
@Daddydigger1 Thanks for the comments everyone. I don't think we will ever know for sure how the coins came to rest on the creek bottom. My best guess is still that they were lost during a flooded crossing. I've just started to research it. BTW, I'm up to 178 coins from the spill now ;-)
