@zeprecht, In BJJ there is a lot of hugging, which is gay, as soon as the BJJ grabs the Hung Gar master the master would've grab him by the throat and rip it apart...
@zeprecht Both fighting arts are effective. The main difference between HG and BJJ would probably be that the HG fighter has the upper hand when fighing from a distance, and attacking. As soon as the BJJ fighter would be able to grab his opponent or the fight would continue on the ground, then he would have better chances.
I think kung fu is a great art. I just don't think its that effective in things like the UFC because it is so difficult to learn. Not many people can be real kung fu masters. Its probably the hardest martial art to master, that is why it might not seem as effective.
@Guinea54 the majority of kung fu moves are illegal in the UFC, that's why. Kung fu teaches to kick the groin, strike the throat, plus I think a lot of the joint locks are also illegal
@Guinea54 The most fascinating part about kung fu, and hung ga in particular, is that you learn these basics, and then you practice them, and you learn dozens of other tweaks and applications for the same move. So you just have to be shown a few basics, and practice them for a lifetime. It's just like anything else.
@Guinea54 the main difference is that ufc fighters focus very much on their muscles, attack power and groundfighting. You don't have to be a master in kung fu to fight effectively.
Also, kung fu knows many styles that have different levels of difficulty, effectiveness and different amounts of time to learn it well.
I had an opportunity to train with Chiu Sifu about five or so years ago, and I can say this much of the man: I learned more in one day from him than in two years of Kung Fu. He is strong, fast, and masterful in technique, as well as a gentleman. You couldn't ask for anyone more charming or light-hearted.
I was trained in Hung Gar by my uncle as a teenager and I can tell you every block is not only a strike but a way of ending a fight and maiming your attacker. This art may seem odd and not combat effective from the outside but it is B-R-U-T-A-L!!! My uncle always taught as his old chinese master did...you have 2 options when attacked maim or kill but which ever, it is done quick!
@liljscarver hello, sorry I don't understand. So sorry, I was not insulting any one if that was the impression; this is just my opinion derived from the limited training I received as a teen. Growing up in LA, my uncle had stories of just how effective Hung Gar (and Wing Chun and Tai Chi for that matter) was. :-)

but i bet it will take a bjj fighter 2 minutes to choke him
his style seems fancy and unprcticsl compared with jiu jitsu or traditional wrestling

@serenadesilhout and breaks. It's very easy to do breaks with what he's doing, like, by accident easy.
