Tyco Chatanooga converted to DCC

Se lo agradecería muchísimo. Estoy próximo a recibirlas y quisiera poder contar con el proceso bien explicado y detallado por usted. Ojalá no omita pasos por muy obvios que parezcan, si fuese posible muestreme como aisló el motor del chasis. Discúlpeme toda esta petición pero aquí no tengo a nadie conocido que este remotamente vinculado con este hobby a su nivel. De antemano muchas gracias. Fernando

This is a good looking job. I have the same engine and tender and would like to convert. Mind telling what decoder you used and where you installed it, any other helpful details? Thanks.

I used a decoder I designed to convert all my old engines to a reasonable price. If you are into electronics you can visit my website dcctrains.netne.net and I have the project there. For this engine any 1A decoder will work. I had to install it in the tender but I had problems with the energy pickup from the rails and I had to make another contact. Although it is working, it's not the best implementation I've done because the mechanical status.

Estimado Señor, saludos desde Chile, Yo he adquirido 2 Chatanooga desde EEUU que quiero convertir a DCC. Le importaría mandarme las imágenes de lo que usted hizo en el proceso de instalación del decodificador? Me interesa mucho saber como conservó el motor sabiendo que todo el mundo desaconseja digitalizar esta locomotora, enprimer lugar, y en caso contrario, cambiar el motor por completo. Estoy a la espera de su respuesta,

Yo te diría que no es la mejor locomotora que tengo pero es por las ruedas y no por el motor. Lo más difícil fue ponerle mas contactos eléctricos a las ruedas de adelante pues para DCC se necesita muy buena conductividad. Creo que ese trabajo que hice con los contactos de las ruedas de adelante puede ser mejor.

A mi me parece una locomotora muy bonita y que justifica convertirla si tu tienes ya todo tu layout en DCC.

No tengo fotos detalladas del proceso pero puedo tomar algunas

That was my first steam train set back in 1978.I dont have the original steamer anymore but bought a replacement model in the early 2000s and still have the original cars.

I did a kit bash on the tyco, see the boiler used on the tyco version is the same as the IHC 2-8-0, so I took the boiler and swapped them, used the boiler weight from the ihc, eliminated the tyco smoke unit, and then I used the tender from a newer chatanooga choo choo made by mehano, it worked great, tyco stuff with the motor built into the truck assembly is getting hard to find parts for unless you get a junker for the needed parts, cool job though

I have that loco! My only steamer with More than four years I had a bachmann 0-6-0 But it bell behind a bookshelf and I lost the tender too...

Original motor?

yes. I had to clean it up and change the traction tires for better mechanical operation. The motor needs a relatively high voltage to run smoothly (almost 9 to 10 volts).
