beautiful, this will never ever be bettered.the man was vocally a genius, who was not big headed and respected other singers around him,i.e jackie wilson ,roy orbison
awsome.......I am very cognitive of these things....but you nailed it.....it is greensleeves indeed...dunno if it was a paid copy right thing....but if it was not.......well....dunooooo
As a matter of fact, this marvelous ballad, perhaps my favorite one, should have already been remixed or, at least, released originally, with Elvis on piano. Thanks a lot!
I've read that Elvis had Native American roots. And also Jewish, German, Scotish & French blood. I guess his fantastic talent came from all this mix up ! :)
Discovered this video in a search elsewhere on Internet. Good to know great work gets around the world. Wonderful video and as we have come to "expect," excellent photo selections for cover of "Stay Away" sung by Elvis Presley. I could type comment and paste it for each of your videos AND it would be sincere, though "cloned." "How Great Thou Art" to have been deleted and come back stronger. We will not stay away from you, know that. 00:51 Super!
It is available on Elvis at the Movies, Almost in Love, and the Kissin Cousins/Clambake/Stay Away, Joe soundtrack compilation, which is where this version is from.
Written by Sid Tepper and Roy C. Bennett. The song is based on the melody of Greensleeves, which is reportedly written by Englands King Henry VIII. Elvis recorded it October 2, 1967 at RCAs Nashville studios. It was sung over the opening credits of Elviss 1968 movie Stay Away, Joe. The single had a 5-week stay on the Hot 100 Chart, peaking at #67. It sold over a million copies, and was the B-side to U. S. Male.
This is easily my most favorite song from the "Stay Away, Joe" soundtrack. I totally prefer this particular version of this song over the slower version. This is one of the hundreds of hidden gems by Elvis. Elvis is the only individual who I've ever heard sing this very beautiful and underrated song. This video was absolutely perfect in every way, 10 Stars as always Jackie.
Sung so beautifully by The King!

@chasjohn57 Exactly, as well as 'O Sole Mio' and 'Torna A Sorrento' (Italian ballads) became 'It's Now Or Never' and 'Surrender', respectively.

By the way .....
The only thing "fast" about this version is music. Elvis Presley is "working" the song, singing lyrics as intended.
Thank you, Sis

Erik,
It is mind boggling that the "play" people did not give time to and expose each Elvis Presley song.
How are you?, Sis
