I can't imagine why he wasn't happy with this recording. This is one of the most amazing examples of piano-playing I've ever heard.All the things you mentioned ("thecolors, the shades, dynamics, etc. etc.") are virtually miraculous.
I've owned the LP for about thirty years, and I've yet to hear Richter's equal in this concerto.

I also discovered Britten-and many other composers such as Scriabine , Prokofiev, Szymanovsky...-through Richter.

did you see the documentary about him? "Richter:the enigma" in it he is disapproving of just about every past recording he has made.
