  • 4S<<, nice try though.

  • I can't even get it a half a turn. She's so good.

  • she barely even punched her knee through at alll...how could she possibly rotate four times off that? waa):

  • It's not a quad. It's a triple.

  • i think if she got more height then she would have completed the rotation a little more than she did here. if you watch her practice videos today, she gets perfect height and can land them cleanly :) this was probably one of the few times she did it in competition

  • @anubethc45 2 years ago (When I made that comment), Rachel Flatt was just starting to become established. o_o. So uh, check the date before assuming that I'm out of touch. I didn't dictate what she should do, whoa. She stopped doing them in competition because of the risk of falling and deduction. Did you check out her attempt in Torino?

  • great!!

  • @cliffordean it is too a quad. Its just slightly under roatated. So when you can do even close to a quad let us know ok dumb ass? I'm even korean and i'm not trying to dis poor miki.

  • i like this girl. i like quad.

  • No offence. Isn't that triple?

  • @IIIIIIIIlII No, it's definitely a quad...it's almost half a turn cheated, but still closer to a quad than triple.

  • @JadedLilth Um.. That's exact 3 rotation. she took off in 9 o clock. But they include prerotation and count as 1 before turn 360'. I know that her best one (q-salcow) is 3&1/2.

  • who cares if it's not a quad? -____-

she was ONLY sixteen when she did this and did still is one of the only girls who can do one

  • she was 15 and also she had only been skating a couple years when she attempted it. Attempting the jump is a big deal, it can really mess with you

  • @momoyome How can it really mess with you? I'm actual curious...

  • @1cakesz Attempting the jump in competition is dangerous. I don't know if you skate or not. But attempting a really difficult jump can have consequences if you miss it, it can throw your whole program off and set it off on the wrong foot where you can't get the rhythm. Also in competition, you can be extra nervous so you're more apt to make mistakes you wouldn't normally make, which could result in serious injury.

  • It was credited as a quad, and it's the ONLY thing CLOSE to a quad a woman has ever landed cleanly in competition. Also, she landed cleaner ones in practice.

  • @potatojew she actually landed a much cleaner one more recently. In 2008 in the GPF, she landed the quad, but it was just baaaarely 1/4 turn cheated and they downgraded it. :( Poor Miki.

  • It's more like a 3.5. Lol

  • yeah, except the whole issue where the skater goes forwards into the axel.... -_-; and ando most certainly was not.

  • I agree. actually it looked like was a little more than a triple axel you know?

  • That is awesome.

  • wow, i'm 14 and just recently got my dbl axel. i can't imagine being able to do anything near a quad in less than a year. she's truly amazing

  • It would never have been credited as a quad today. Certianly underrotated, but impressive anyway.

  • that was not a quad...

  • it was half a rotation under! lol im like the 80 gazillionth person to say it but no one actually stated how much under it actually was so...

  • OK people, it's under rotated, we GET IT. Seriously, it's hilarious reading all these comments the same thing repeated over and over, when I'm sure half of those people have never stepped into an ice rink before...

  • for 5 years of skating..thats really really good. and she doesnt really need the quad..so yeah :p..

  • exactly under rotated

  • yea you can do better no?

  • it was good, but her posture was off and she under rotated...

  • that's more like a triple axel...she under rotated

  • Triple axel? Where do you see a triple axel in Miki's skating. Have you not know that Miki never attempted a triple axel?

  • I know -_- I meant she attempted the quad but it looks like a triple axel because she under rotated;;;

  • Triple axle is much different and therefore much harder bc to take off with your skate facing straight forward and spinning that way vs taking off from the side while the whole body is already rotating (as is done here) ant therefore alot easier.

If u doubt, trying doing a 360 jumping off with your right foot planted and facing straight, vs swinging your right leg all the way to the left with your left foot turning too and body rotating ahead.

So it is not a triple axel.

  • Amazing! Under rotated slightly, but still good, considering she was only 15!!!

  • It's really good, but it's cheated by a half turn.

  • Ahh i see where she cheated now. But you can't knock it! I'm 15 and I've only just learnt a single! So cut her some slack guys ;)

  • half a turn cheated, but still amazing! :)

  • Yehh

  • its obviously underroatated. but still amazing. she can land it fully rotated for sure

  • yeah she was only 15, but it doesn't matter cuz she can still do quad salchows now

  • she was only 15 then you guys have to realise lol... not its way better. :)

  • a quarter cheated, but it's still a quad attemp, which is still extremely difficult

  • Comment removed

  • Yep! Her jumps were cheated then and still are now.

  • Its definately NOT 4 rotations are you all blind. If you are watching carefully she is 3 quarters way round before she takes off and then flicks the last half on the landing so its 2.75 rotation off the ground . Watch it in slow motion. But regardless it still looks great to the audience which is what matters.

  • she def cheated the landing, as it was not clean landing, she was about only half way over on take off...

i don't know if you skate or not, but typically salchows are taken off with a half turn cheat. That's why they say salchows are one of the easier jumps of the bunch.

  • you don't take off backwards in a salchow anyways, its like an axle: you more or less take off forwards. That's why one learns the double sal first. But it was still cheated on the landing regardless....

  • in my opinions, miki's skating has no artistry at all, although she's got great technique...that's why i dont really enjoy watching her performance

  • agree

  • thats how she lands her jumps, watch all the vids. her wrapped leg doesnt swing out till just before she lands.. like milliseconds.

  • just did a video response ... this one she did in practice in worlds 09 .... looks pretty good to me

  • the half rotation is on the ice!!!

  • Do you thin she's under-rated or what? LOL She's a teenage prodigy.

  • yes!

  • it was underrotated but the fact that she got about 3 1/2 times around is still amazing.

  • Sorry but It doesn't look like a quad. Not even close. It is more like an over-rotated 3 Sal. I think It's better for her to forget all the quad things and focus on what she can really do. What's needed is not a quad but fully rotated jumps and skating clean programs.

  • that's why she doesn't try it anymore...she tried it i think in Torino and like really flopped. She doesn't do it much anymore, but I know for a fact that she still does them in practice.

I think she really needs to work on her artistry. At least she doesn't have that GOD AWFUL wrap like Yukari Nakano does on her salchows and loops.

  • i know tell me about it! yukari has a nasty wrap lol

  • :| she does. it's so distracting. She gets deducted on the GOE for it too. It's a shame, she needs to fix it.

  • Yukari doesn't get deducted because of her leg wrap. And I don't find it distracting. I think it's cool, actually.

  • @cliffordean I agree, she completed half of the 4th spin on ice. This is short rotation

  • Comment removed

  • miki ando is seriously freakin insane. quad at 15? yeah. it was a little cheated but still! it's a quad! god! lol! :-)

  • It wasn't cheated. She landed it with grace and style, almost no falter. Come on, she was 15! Give her a break! It was BARELY under rotated. She probably hit the ice right when there was about a quarter more to go. It looks like more, but it probably isn't. It's amazing, don't criticize. Not like anyone here can do it.

  • It may be under-rotated but definitely not cheated! No one decides to land it short just so they can "cheat" the judges. Anyone who skates should understand that if you don't land it right at that time (even when it's not fully rotated), you will fall. So wouldn't you choose to land it short instead of fall? It's not perfectly done but to call it cheating is not to give enough respect and credit to the skaters who work so hard at it. It's a quad for crying out loud!

  • ur so rite, i'm with u ther!! how the fuk can u cheat a jump, it's just jumping n rotating, n landing, so much haters here!! i'm proud of miki ando proving tat not only can men can do quads' but ladies can do it also!! this should be inspiring for all skaters, so y the fuk r ppl hating for?!? can she do a triple axel?!?

  • woahh..

  • 回転不足

  • 3-3 combo is great! 4S is not clean, but it is meanful that she made a history! i can't believe she have done this Jr...great.

  • it's not clean, but it is so amazing she does this on age 15...i heard mao is aware of miki, more than yuna kim, because miki has some jumps that mao can not. no wonder why.

  • Well, Mao's been working with Raphael Arturian (sp???) and he's like the JUMP MAN. I heard that Mao was working on a quad loop. But I think it's best for skaters at this age to focus more on skating clean programs before worrying too much about quads.

  • SO CHEATED! She is sideways when she lands!

  • ok it is cheatd, but its very close... if she had more speed going into it she could probably complete the rotation, hope she does that, i want to see her landing the quad at worlds or the olympics

  • that was soo cheated!!!!

  • It was a bit Cheated. But it is still SOO AMAZING!!

  • This is actually the 2004 World Junior Championships, which she won. In 2002, she was 3rd in this event.

  • not clean... you can see at the landing

  • not to be mean or anything but i'm pretty sure that was cheated

  • It almost looks likes as if she isn't around "/

  • yeah she's had an injury last time at the world champ. I hope she recovers soon. Such a beautiful skater!

  • im so excited to watch her this year at worlds! i know she'll come through, shes so pretty

  • was she the first 2 land a quad in competition then??

  • yeah, she's the first and the only. What i meant by not the greatest, I meant that the jump wasn't all that great because of the underroatation.

  • she is the 1st female to land a quad, the 1st male to land a quad was kurt browning

  • miki and mai and aki too young.

  • who are mai and aki??

  • 44s after video begins.

mai asada stand the left of miki.

aki sawada stand the right of miki.

  • u mean mao

  • no, thats mai, mao's older sis!! this comp was in 2002 so mao was only 12 years old then!!!!

  • omg her sister was a skater too! was she good

  • mai is mai asada, mao's sister, don't know who aki is though
