i have after effects but im not really pro with it :D

  • really beautiful...:O

  • excelente , el video encierra mucho arte en si felicitaciones por tanta sencibilidad.

  • beautiful. Nice job!

  • Just wondering. After editing in AfterEffects, did you upload to another video publishing program? By the way, this is beautiful, and it makes me smile every time.

  • nice background music + good video quality

    i'm so gonna get gf1

  • Awesome video. How you like your GF1? I thought about getting one with the 20mm f1.7 and sell my Leica D-Lux 4 since I can use my Leica lenses on the GF1 with an adapter.

  • YOU ARE SOOO AMAZING! i think i am gonna get this camera, do you like the camera?

  • Wonderful energy. I'm inspired.

  • Can I zoom while filming?

  • @LoyalPlayboy yeees

  • I really thought this was good. Green as bro

  • whats your video editor?

Really good, i'm thinking to buy one! what do you think about yours?

  • Could you tell me what settings you had on saturation, light, and hue for this video? Some may not like it but I really like the way the color looks.

  • Your video is so great !! thanks !

What is the song in the video ? ^^

  • duuude , this video is just , beautiful :)

  • lol, it is funny to see how people believe you get this result just straight out of the camera...

  • @InfameRAP Looking back on this I'm really not happy with my color grading. I'm glad the video has gotten such a positive response over the time it's been here, but if I were to do it now I'd do a lot of things differently.

  • @Shreeb2 I really like the color grading. It gives it a nice feel.

  • @InfameRAP

    yeap fake colors, bad editing

  • @InfameRAP wait, how can you get better results then?

  • really nice compositions!

  • Beautiful footage and editing. Nice music. Congratulations.

  • as serious in sony vegas

  • hello please can you put the exact values, is that I get the same as yours

  • Can something like Premier Elements 8 do the same type of color curves and hue/saturation as After Affects shown in this video?

  • Pretty impressed, I didn't think the quality would be this nice! I'm waiting for my GF1 to arrived as I speak, big upgrade to my TZ1. xD

  • Gorgeous.

  • very nice..

  • great job, i think your doin some great things with video mode on the gf1

  • hey!

i was wondering if you could maybe help me. i have difficulties getting my videos from camera to my computer. some videos will show up if i connect the camera with computer but some simply don't (i can, however, see them in camera).

do you know what might be the problem?

  • so inspirational

  • Best quality ever seen in a video

  • beautifulll :)

  • Very nice work. You mention you shot them in motion JPEG. Is this a factory setting or did you hack the firmware? Thanks!

  • @jamestdawson I shot this right around when the GF1 was released, way before the firmware hack became available. I'm still not going to hack my GF1 until full manual control or 60p options become available! Thanks for the comment!

  • @Shreeb I am amazed at the quality! Very nice shooting and editing, too! Thanks for the info! I am planning to buy a GH1 and later on pick up the new fullsized Panasonic HD camera.

  • THIS WILL DESTROY YOU!!

whoever edited this... i love you. haha

  • all I can say is #OMG ..I've never seen before anything taking vids like this one #OMG

  • Nice. Simple and Nice.

  • i think im in love with this video this camera and this channel

  • Ok, so I was looking at the Olympus PEN and it can only hold 7mins of video even with a memory card... What about this camera? PLEASE tell me it holds because I'm really interested in it.

  • really great video...liked the music too

  • this will destroy you is great

  • This is really good dude. From one video enthusiast to another.

  • This is awesome.

  • What would be the advantages for the 20mm compared to the 14-45mm on the lumix gf1?

  • @kjeoy The 20mm has the advantage of producing more "cinematic" videos because of it's ability to render images with shallow DOF, and the ability to shoot clean video in lower light with it's wide aperture. The 14-45 surpasses it in every other aspect, however, with stabilization, zoom range, and quicker/quieter AF.

  • great video sounds like sigor ross

  • OMG~~~make for GF1

  • I want this camera... but the price is prohibitive compared to 'real' DSLR offerings at that price point. What's your take?

  • Very nicely done! Just goes to show it's all about who's holding the camera, not always what their holding.

  • Simply beautiful.

  • what's the name of the soundtrack? tnx

  • Hey dude, wonderful clip.... I am really interested in the GF1 and after seeing you little movie I think i'm sold... to have something so compact with such great results is just fantastic... I can get images like this on my 5D mark 2 but I just don't want to lug it around... Really lovely imagery mate... they evoke emotion which is what it's all about.

    cheers.

  • Hi, this video looks AMAZING! As one who's looking to purchase a still/video capable DSLR, can you tell me how much the setup you're using here is? The Lumix GF1 and lens package? Thanks in advance.

  • whats the name of the music??

  • it's really nice, I like it, the color and the sharp of the video, nice shoot thumb up

  • hey what's the output settings that you choose? can you please tell me? my file end up being like 5,6 gig on avi format -_-...

  • @iveroon I shot these clips in Motion JPEG, which has larger file sizes than AVCHD Lite, but it produces files that have better quality and are easier to edit.

  • @iveroon you can render the vid as a .wmv that works great. its not bad quality

  • hey what's the output settings that you choose? can you please tell me? my file end up being like 5,6 gig on avi format -_-...

  • Nicely done. I have some low light clips taken with the GF1 myself.

  • what lens are you using

  • The video twists in about 00:45. Is it a big problem when shooting HD with GF1?

  • it is a perfect editing and the video quality just puts more beauty into it 5\5

  • the saturation is perfect mate, looks like a music video :D

  • Wow, I love this camera more and more. Breath taking imagery. I'd make some other editing choices, but otherwise, right on!

  • I liked it a lot... Really nice video. I guess the music does its part :)

  • Very nice!

  • whats the name of the song

  • "They Move On Tracks of Never-Ending Light" by the group This Will Destroy You.

  • @conordunn28 thanks

  • I'm a Panasonic fan and I loved it so much

but I don't know what to choose canon d500 or Panasonic GF1??

  • Beautifull. The music was very appropriate. Thanks.

  • i love the colourgrading very much :)

  • You've kinda overdone it. Try making it a bit less saturated. Nice bokeh...

  • Yeah, I agree. However this was my first time messing with video/videoediting.

Check out my last upload where I applied the same technique but also a saturation adjustment!

  • @Shreeb2 i actually like the high saturation. it's good to be different!

  • @Shreeb2

i thought ity looked pretty damn good!

    nice video

    must buy some time

  • @RaceXtreme520 I very much enjoyed this art style! I thought it looked really cool.

  • I'd really like a light weight, wide angle compact camera like the 25mm Lumix TZ8 or 10 but am considering the Olympus EP2 or Lumix GF1 as I can add a wider angle lens. I need to take quality interior shots for occasional marketing of properties as well as general use. Would the TZ8 or 10 be good enough? Any advice would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

  • This is really good, I've been trying to decide on a decent compact for ages, gradually went up and up in price and I'm right on the GF1 now, I use a 50D for most work but seeing the capabilities of this is very helpful, having a compact camera with this quality would be ace!

  • Nicely done.

  • Wicked Sick! I will always use Nikon SLR's for my serious work, but I would love to have a lumix gf1 for carry around.

  • Lovely video, great colour correction and a nice song to go with it. I'm really liking this camera!

  • I wondered if the screen tear during the train shots is an artefact of the rolling shutter or a compression/playback issue I get locally?

  • If you are talking about an actual tear in a frame, that might be a playback issue. If you are talking about the slight lean of the vertical lines in the side view of the train passing, that is an effect of the rolling shutter.

I've been through multiple video shoots with the GF1 both on and off a tripod, and rolling shutter has rarely reared it's ugly head. Good eye on the train shot though, I didn't even notice it!

  • I meant actual frame tear, but I checked this on a faster PC and that appears to be a playback v-sync kind of a problem which is of course more noticeable on fast moving scenes, and not something inherent in the video itself.

The jello effect is very minimal compared to some video enabled dSLRs, so this camera seems to be much better in that aspect.

    Thank you for your response.

  • That was beautiful.

This really makes me want to buy the GF1 over the LX3, even though it costs twice as much.

  • may I asked what you used to edit the video, if you used vegas 9c did you get the flickering.

  • I use the color curves and HSL adjustment tools in Premiere Pro or After Effects to get the 'look' of the video, and I sometimes slow the clips to about 80% to give a more dramatic tone.

I shoot in motion jpeg and have never had any issues with flickering in my clips.

  • wow great job!!! love it

  • great video samples. I didn't expected such a great video quality:) BRAVO to Panasonic!

  • I have one

  • what program do u use for the color editing?

  • @iveroon Any professional application would be able to use curves. For Windows Sony Vegas 9 Pro, Adobe After Effects/Premier, or AVID would be fine.

Mac, Final Cut Pro will be sufficient, but I'm not sure of other video editors on that platform.

  • looks great. i own the hmc150, but would really like something more portable and "hybrid"... you're the first quality footage i ran across with this camera...

  • I am just starting to look at getting this camera. This video really helps with the decision. What program are you using for your video editing, and do you do an compilations of picture video's?

  • Comment removed

  • omg !!!! this is

    just an real !!!

    5/5

  • Very impressive, nice post work. Another reason why I'm gonna wave goodbye to some cash very soon lol

  • hi shreeb.., does it shake when recording video...since it doesnt have image stabilizer...

  • oh i forgot to ask, how big of a memory card/sd card do you need to take the length of your footage?

  • Have you seen a film called old joy. This film really reminds me of it. Very nice

  • Thats the Movie! Very Cool! Had you used any filters on camera, or when mixing it on computer ?

  • VERY nicely done...I just picked up the GF1 mysef and will be editing in iMovie. Would you care to share more details of the color adjustments you made?

  • Double post? :)

I'm not familiar with iMovie, so if it doesn't have a color curves tool, you may be able to get a similar look with a level adjustment tool.

Looking back at these clips I feel that they are much too saturated, so in my more recent videos I add another effect control to desaturate the colors.

  • would u recommend this Panasonic GF-1 or the Olympus PEN E-P1 ???

  • extremely good, like it so much~~

  • great video! I've watched it many times. I liked most the train part. sadly the GF1 is not equipped with a decent mic neither accepts an external mic (that will keep me still hunting for an affordable GH1) but the soundtrack covered a bit the bad quality mic sound. May I know the soundtrack name and composer?

    Good luck!

  • Any word on whether this camera suffers from the infamous wobble/jello effect like the 5Dii/7D and the D90 all have? I'm really consider this camera as a nice portable taker. Thanks for the sharing the video.

  • The infamous rolling shutter effect can be seen in GF1 footage if you are shaking enough or panning fast enough, yes. The good thing is it isn't as bad as I have seen in samples of other DLSRs, though I haven't used another video capable DSLR to directly compare.

I used the GF1 to film 3 projects for my digital video class in college, and I only saw the effects of rolling shutter a few times. Overall I think it performs quite well in the video department.

  • @Shreeb2 The rolling shutter doesn't seem TOO bad. I'm torn between a GH1, the GF1, and the K-7. Wondering, however, what lens did you you for this footage? Not the kit, right?

  • Epic!

  • are you getting those colors straigh from he camera or are they modify with aftereffects?

  • I modified the color curves for each scene to get the look I wanted, yes.

To view the raw footage, check my profile videos.

  • excellent. Thanks for that

  • btw, was this shot at 24fps or 60fps? thanks!

  • This was shot at 30p, which is the max for the GF1.

IIRC, I rendered from After Effects at 24p, though.

  • seriously great for 720p, might get this camera, did you use an external mic?

  • It does have very nice video quality for a device that is mainly a stills camera.

Sadly though, an external mic cannot be used on the GF1, but one can be connected to the higher-end GH1.

  • Great vid, film like quality, why I'm keen on this cam.

The manual focus looks great, could I go from having everything in focus to just certain objects?

I have an Canon hv20 and it can't do the shallow dof wide open, only if I zoom right in.

  • Great video! Very nice editing

  • simply gorgeous. thanks. keep them coming.

  • thanks for posting this!

    super helpful!!

    Vanae

  • how long can record continuously?? my lx3 only 8minutes to 8 minutes

    how about this camera?

  • GF1 records to the capacity of the memory card you're using

  • because of this great video, I'm going to buy GF1 stead of E-P1.

    Really nice !

  • only wow

  • hi, wonderfull video! I really love it! Me too have adobe after effect bu t i really don't know how to use it to have a result like yours! Suggest me some tutorials! Thanks!

  • Great video and great work with the images. I like also the music: who is playing?

    Ciao

    L.

  • Band and song name are in the video description.

Music is "They Move On Tracks of Never-Ending Light" by the group This Will Destroy You.

The whole self titled album is very good.

  • looks like edited with special effects...lol

  • Did you miss the earlier comments?

  • i was going to buy this camera anyway before seeing this video. But having seen the hd capability has gotten me more excited. great video.

  • Great camera, FANTASTIC shots!

  • Wow. Not only does this movie seriously make me consider this camera, I have to say these are absolutely beautiful, tasteful shots. Well done.

  • Shreeb2, I don't know how much of this video was the camera or your videographer/editing skills, but it's amazing. Do you have sample photos (unedited) taken with the camera?

  • Thank you for the kind words!

This is the second video I did with the GF1, and though I've shot stills for a few years, I've never done video work before.

And if you check my profile you will find this exact video without the time and curve adjustments or music, to give a better feel of what comes straight from the camera.

  • Streeb2, are you using any kind of lens filters here? What is the fundamental difference between the 20mm and the 14-45mm? Which is best for video work?

  • I was using a ND8 filter as a workaround on the 20mm to force slower shutter speeds, achieving more natural motion in the daylight (there is no way to manually set shutter speed in video with the GF1).

As for my lens choice for video work, I like using the 20, but recommend the 14-45 because of it's quicker and quieter AF. However, if you use the 20 enough and learn to use it well, it can give very nice shallow DOF video.

Ideally I carry both with me all the time.

  • Ah yes, and I almost forgot:

    Image Stabilization.

The 14-45 has it, and it works during video recording. The 20 does not, and is better put on a tripod or steadycam to get nice results.

  • expensive as hell. was considering it, then i saw photographyblog's review of the pentax kx. essential, they say. then i saw a youtube clip showing a video sample taken by it, and unless the shooter had no idea how to do it, it kept going in and out of focus. sharp, fuzzy, sharp, fuzzy....just like my old sony DSC-W5. i don't want a video cam. i want a hybrid. the video quality here is outstanding. i'm ready to bang my head against the wall with this analysis paralysis! G11....GF1....KX....

  • Analysis paralysis is sooo right on! I've been banging my head for 2 weeks now. I think for the sake of my sanity I am just going to buy the thing and be done with it!

I need this level of vid quality and I need an DSLR. This will (hopefully) solve both with one small unit.

  • heh heh. the thing is, it's 300 dollars more than the pentax KX, roughly. and i think IQ will not be in the same league. so the only thing warranting a purchase of the GF1 is size, looks, and HD superiority. it just seems like pentax is the underdog, packing a huge wallop for a low price.

    the dithering continues.....

  • The best price I have seen here in the US is $850 with the 14-45 mm lens. I am keen to learn more about which lense might be better for video; the 14-45 mm or the 20mm. I think that for the HD 720 video alone, this camera may be worth the extra expense.

  • well, considering this sample video, yes. it's simply brilliant. prices seem to be leveling out here in korea. currency exchange, blah blah. but again, my dilemma is this: do i sacrifice IQ (it won't be as good with the smaller GF sensor) to get panny's amazing HD technology? after countless hours of AP (the aforementioned analysis paralysis) i'm down to the pentax KX, the panny GF1, and the canon G11. Regis, can I phone a friend?!!!

  • Canadianroot, I remember discussing this camera with you on a different video before I purchased it. The good news it has met every one of my expectations, and then some. Coming from a DSLR, I'm quite impressed.

In comparing the GF1 to Canon's 500D, DPreview says this: "there's no getting away from the fact that the GF1... is capable of capturing a subtlety of detail that puts it ahead of most consumer DSLRs" -when shooting in raw. Check out the review, it's very insightful.

  • yes, shreeb, greetings! you are more well-versed on all things optic than i....i have been a P and S hack since i went digital, and haven't handled a 35 mm since high school photog class, and for a few years beyond that.

i am really debating whether i'm man enough for the pentax kx, or whether the gf1 justifies the high price tag for me. and at the other end of the spectrum, whether i'll get good enough IQ out of the g11.

i may wait a few more weeks to see what's around the corner. e-p2? hmm

  • there's something to be said for that, tucson. make up your mind, go for it, and learn it top to bottom. i just wonder (also based on some of what i've read) is that DOF and IQ aren't in the same league as DSLR, but something of a mid-range between P and S and DSLR. read something about yellows and oranges being a problem. anyway, seeing is believing. you certainly can't go wrong with the GF1 from everything i've read. but the price? almost 300 more than the Pentax KX.

  • Basically, you have to ask yourself if the extra cost is worth the small size to you. If size isn't an issue, yes, there a definitely more capable DSLRs out there, and I'm sure the KX is a good camera.

I wouldn't really worry yourself over the IQ of m4/3 vs APS-C. The GF1 is capable of capturing a LOT of detail in stills and both kit lenses are much better than kit offerings on other DSLR systems.

The only thing that isn't stellar about the GF1's IQ is high ISO noise, imo.

  • really, you think the lens give the GF an advantage over some higher-sensor dSLRs? i don't know that i'd be a multi-lens guy just yet. hell, i still have a huge curve to navigate, (see, i would have thought high ISO noise was pretty standard) coming from P and S land. i have a basic understanding of most terminology, and know my way around menus, etc. so again, the decision-making centres around size, prize, ease of use, features, IQ. so, GF1 or Pentax KX (now i'm down to 2...not bad!)

  • Thank you so much for this video...I love it.

  • Fantastic video. Really. I need a camera...

  • amazing! what editing software do you use to get that greenish tinge?

  • Thank you, I love the music and the video so much. It calms me down.

I have one question - are the white things floating around at 0:28 result of editing or were they there when you took the video? What are they?

    Thank you again.

  • Thanks! Glad its calming, because it was when I was there filming, too.

Those things floating around are actually swarms of gnats, and they look like they are glowing because they are being backlit by the sun through the trees.

  • how much zoom capability man

  • That would really depend on what lens you are using.

  • I was wondering if the GF1 would be a good option to shoot video - and you convinced me. The images are impressive and inspiring.

By, the way, you made excellent choices for the soundtrack, location and color edition as well.

  • Thank you very much!

I think you'll be quite happy with the GF1 as a stills camera and a video device. Even though it doesn't offer full manual control of video like the GH1, with some workarounds it is still possible to get some very artistic footage from it.

  • sick soundtrack. this will destroy you is the most amazing band ever.

  • Shreeb2, these are simply beautiful videos you've made.
