This is touching and inspiring. Until recently, I did not know much about Native American history and the current situation of Native Americans. I think US culture in general is very under-informed about the topic and I hope this video reaches a lot of people. ABC news should do a piece on it to counter their seemingly one-sided program. Keep going with this and get the message out! Thank you for setting an example for us all and reminding us of the best in human values.
I am moslty Cacasian ethnicities but I have what I like to a "Little Red Feather" in my hair persay, making reference to the small percentage of Native in Me.I fell with from time to time and makes Me concerne for the survival of Native peoples and their rightful birthright to a land stolen from them ages ago. Whites can start by giving up more rural areas and develop more suburban and even re-vamp some urban areas too. There's no excuse we can't share the land and even integrate.
Thank you so much. This piece is beautiful. I am a white guy in south Minneapolis learning more and more about native people, culture, and our collective history. I am quite moved by the work you have done here. And grateful for the creativity and pride you have shown. Thank you for sharing all of your gifts with us.
I am Osage and a 50 year old physician and I have never been so proud of my people. Be strong! Never let someone tell you that you are less than you are!

Your video is a great example of not letting other people speak for you or characterize your life according to their perception. Keep speaking for yourselves!
Impressive work and great message! Keep at it - you will make a difference! Heard on NPR that you guys will be in Washington DC. Make your voices heard!
I'm a communication professor out in Eugene, Oregon, and my public speaking students are about to start an assignment where the biggest challenge is making the words and the visuals work together. I'm embedding this in the Moodle for that class so they can see what an excellent job you did. You are role models for them. Very, very good job.
@fredbortz Oops --> chamges = changes. :) Sorry, it was early & I was sitting on a dark bus, headed to work, while composing my comment... Regardless, I'll be looking forward to hearing more about your movement/cause.

This guy can't even spell change, must less implement it. The federal government is the problem not the solution. Best of luck to these young people in making their way through life. May they find themselves in a future without the oppressive constraints and limitations imposed by predatory capitalism and nation state empire - both of which conspired to destroy these young people's culture and civilization.
inspired by your choice to represent what is true and positive about you instead of responding at the level of argument . . . . loving your proactive and creative choice! keep being BRIGHT <3
You are so much more than a closed-minded media can see. I talked to the ABC producers about the special in July 2010, before they even started filming, and they already "knew" what they were going to report on. Do not listen to them and define YOURSELVES instead. I know you will go far and do incredible things. Mitakuye oyasin, and thank you for this beautiful film.
That was a great video. These students were great in producing such a touching film. I my self am tired of john doe public trying to supress the Native Americans. Remember they were here first. Treat them right, they deserve it. Richard B. in Iowa
Read about this video in the Rapid City paper, and shared it on my facebook. Great video, wonderful display of heritage and pride. This should be played on local T.V. stations as a commercial, awesome.

1 of the few things my birther ws right about was that racism is a fact of life in this country, & the ABC "Special" proves it once again. I have relatives on Pine Ridge - beautiful Traditional people, & so are their children & grandchildren. ABC, you're racist scum.
The ABC "special" was more about Diane Sawyer trying to promote herself than telling a truth about Native life. Her "special" was opportunistic, condescending and misleading. The fact of the matter is that the problems on Native lands are not because time forgot us. It is the direct result of state and federal government policies and the clear complicity of the American people. It is this generation that will swing the pendulum back the other way with no help from Diane Sawyer on horseback.
Believe me when I say, other 'minority' groups know exactly what you are saying. Complacency by more financially powerful groups or those with easier access to better education (or even a group's level of acceptance by the majority), accompanied by greed, selfishness and stereotypical media representation is a dangerous tool when mixed with ignorance :( Kudos to the video makers.
I love this video! I also love the quote, "we are so much more than poverty". I also love that the Native youth, the pride of the Lakota Nation, were the voices and the onces responsible for putting this together!
Your video is almost as powerful as you all are. I am so proud of you all for your talent, skills and abilities to make such an awesome statement to the world! Keep it up.
I think that was all the Special was trying ti get @. just to let the people involved in this project know, I Loved what you did in this piece!!! the work was gorgeous and inspiring! keep doing this type of thing.
I wanted to say that, the way the Native Sun news reported that ABC portrayed us Lakota, as all poor. Was wrong! this Video shows that, but also, the Special was about only three individual families, and only mentions the rest of the reservation. This Video is great for the rest of the world to really know the children who are trying to get what they can for the future. The fact remains, that some percentage of the reservation are in dire need of some help.
Seeing these kids gives me hope for the future of our country. Very powerful. Thank you, young people of Todd County, SD and the Rosebud Indian Reservation.
Thanks. Pilamiyayelo or Pidomiyapedo in Dakota here in Minnesota don't ya know. Your video rocks! Doksha! The smiles are great! Keep up the traditions in a good way, Wichozani!
What a powerful video response. Authentic Voices speaking their Truth ! Outstanding job. I posted this on my facebook wall and encouraged others to post, like and comment.
Correction: I said; You could kill the spirit of their elders. I meant to say; You could not kill the spirit of their elders.
Because the First Nation people are consciously connected to and one with Earth Mother, they will always stand strong and tall. I am Spiritwalker, and I stand with you my sisters and brothers.
You are so right; you are more than that. You are everything you portrayed in your video and much much more. Continue to stand up and speak the truth and your peace. For a people to have been through what the First Nation has been through speaks volumes.
The definition of strength is First Nation People. You have nothing to be ashamed of; Pride has been and always will be your strong foundation, and you Love and Faith in GREAT SPIRIT will always be your driving force. America, hear what the First Nation Youth are saying. You could kill the spirit of their elders, and you surely will not kill their spirit.
This video was AWESOME! Congratulations to these amazing students! You are SO MUCH MORE than that!!! I loved your creativity in getting your voice heard! I am going to share this with all the students and adults that I work with! Thank you for showing the world what young people really are!!!
All I can say is "GOOD ON YOU!" You all ROCK! You are right, you are so much MORE!! Always have been, always will be! This was inspirational!! I'll share it with all my students! Thank you!
I feel like I know these kids. They not only are from the same area I visited 15 years ago, but they are like so many kids in my own neighborhood who are accomplishing "the impossible" despite the odds against them. Each and every one of them has the potential to do or be anything if they are willing to work hard and work together. This is proof that these "Children of the Plains" know that and live it.
Great method of giving voice to the good in our youth. We all need to see more of this from all the young people out there who are doing the right things.
A WONDERFUL video!!! And an excellent addition/rebuttal to "Hidden America". While I found the program a start toward getting the plight of those who suffer into the open, your creative video is a much-needed lesson that there is more than one story out there!! wakan tanan kici un!
I am SO PROUD of these students for making this video!!! I LOVE it and plan to share this link with everyone I know!!! I hope they send it to 20/20 and to Diane Sawyer!!!!
I've been doing video-making with (Inuit) youth and I must say this got my heart and my mind going real good. can't wait to show it! :) .. love and respect <3 forever
Extremely amazing. It does my heart good to see native youth exhibiting and embodying the hope and future of the of our people and all our relations. Dont stop being extraordinary and exceptional young people. :)
I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days on Pine Ridge last summer with daughter and had my eyes opened to my country's history as well as the individuals who created and continue to create it. You young folks have a lot to teach us old guys :)
Nice. Show that we are more than that - every day, every class, every assignment. Pride, bravery, perseverance. Every day. Every class. Every assignment. We are Todd County.
Thanks for this!! I had the oppurtunity to visit Pine Ridge last summer and while I saw some things that were hard to swallow, I got to see the side media forgets - families, love, pride, dignity, and strength. It's easy enough to get caught up in all the bad things, but there's always another side of the coin. Thanks so much for showing it.
Proud to be from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and a 96' graduate of Todd County High School! You guys have made us all so proud!!!!!! Keep up the awesome job!
fantastic job everyone! thanks for coming up with a simple, beautiful and powerful way to tell the world we're complex and not just what they see on t.v.
