  • WHAT IS THE WIRE AROUND YOUR POND? HOW TALL IS IT? DOES IT WORK WELL TO KEEP OUT RACCOONS? HOW IS IT PUT TO GATHER ? I LOST 4 FISH THIS YEAR TO RACCOONS I'M LOOKING FOR THE BEST WAY TO STOP THEM FROM GETTING ANY MORE OF MY FRIENDS.

  • It is an electric fence which runs off the mains to keep otters and mink out of the pond as they live near a stream connected to a river which contains both species of pest. It is made by a company called Velda and is very easy to install. If you search Velda Electric Fence, you should find sellers who post World wide. Thanks for watching. I would imagine that while the current flows it will keep out raccoons well.

  • are you not worried about damp rot creeping up the supporting posts which seem to be in direct contact with the soil, or frost eventually loosening them up over the years, finished job looks nice though.

  • The wood is all pressure treated with Tanalith E so I've no worries about rot. Underneath decks is generally a very dry environment compared to most places in a garden so the frost isn't of concern. I have seen people laying decking on a plastic sheet to protect the wood from moisture in the ground only for it to hold water and rot the wood. D'oh.

  • Nice job Pondguru

  • Thanks, man. I checked out your videos - well done yourself.

  • great vid great music for vid it fitted nicly and your a great builder

  • I always build things as if I was putting them in my own garden and don't say I'm finished until I'm happy with the job myself. I'm fairly harsh on myself and always look at the job from the customers point of view to avoid possible snags and misunderstandings. They've saved long and hard for some of the jobs so the last thing they want is a cowboy leaving a mess or doing shoddy work. I have seen plenty of crappy jobs.

  • My music taste is very varied and seasonal. In the spring I tend to listen to trance. In the summer it tends to be easy listening and very mellow. The autumn sees heavy metal creep in and in winter the death metal rears its head, mixed with the odd audiobook. My iTunes library is something to behold.

  • @pondguru Nice job :-) great build, But could you tell me the artist who made the song? Thanks

  • It is Conjure One and the song is called 'make a wish' - I can't remember which album it is from as I've go two or three - they are all good.

    Thanks for the positive comment.

  • question about pressure treated wood and the pond;

    i'd noticed 1 of the warning labels on the wood stating "don't let it come in contact with food... wash ur hands after toughing...etc.". How dangerous is it to be around the pond? being that when it rains it's going to wash into the pond...

  • The treatment is very toxic, but once the wood is dry after pressure treating, very little will wash off due to rain. At the plant, the wood has to stand for a period of time to allow this drying out to happen otherwise it fairly destroys your skin also when you handle it. Much of the really harmful stuff was taken out of the solution a couple of years ago (arsenic etc.) so it is not as bad as it was.

  • very nice job shame you could not save the summer house

  • It was built really poorly. The roof was dropping to bits, the doors did not shut properly and the base was rotten etc. From a distance it looked good. We're building a new one and I'll video that going in as I need to be there to relocate the electrics in the new summerhouse.

  • Great job you have done there looks very good

  • Thanks Howarth. I just can't believe that I forgot the camera so didn't get a picture of the existing decking. I'm so stoopid, man.....
