  • Yeah, there pretty solid. The car was sold in Australia as a Holden Barina. It was made in Japan by Suzuki - basically a Suzuki Swift.

  • The batteries are definitely not going anywhere!!! Nicely done mate! What kind of car is that?

  • thouse are thunder battries???

  • @brucekirk89 - Yes, Thundersky brand - Lithium Iron Phosphate.

  • It is sad to see such incredible workmanship and quality parts go into a vehicle that is so ugly. Why couldn't you have picked a better donor car?

  • @adric22 - Hi, firstly I don't see it as an ugly car. I'm sorry that you do. One of the reasons for choosing this car was the low weight, also the lack of power steering and the the simplicity of the conversion. There is no onboard computer to react with. I enjoy driving the electric car. What EV do you have?

  • @evric2008 - I built a 1994 Eagle Talon EV, and a Plug-in Prius.

  • @adric22 - David, why did you only use 72Volts in the Talon? It seems a waste to limit the top speed of such a nice car. My "ugly" car, as you call it, will do more than 60mph.

  • @evric2008 - You're right. Unfortunately, I didn't realize at the time how limited the speed would be. That is why I sold it. Sorry about the ugly comment - I wasn't trying to insult you. I actually thought that vehicle was universally considered to be ugly. So as long as you like it, I guess that is fine.

  • Li batteries?!?! Lucky sob, but no 3 phase AC motor? Thats odd,

but the important question, how well does it drive?

  • @d3adp001 - It drives very well - The acceleration from stop is not as good as I would like it. The Kelly controller is limiting the current too much. I have now purchased a ZEVA MC600S (600Amps) controller and will install that soon. The next video should be from within the car - in about two weeks, after it is approved for Australian roads.

  • @evric2008 congratz, your leading the way we all should be going, hopefully a few sucking it up and gettin to it, will ease up the way for the rest of us throw backs.

  • @evric2008 Heya mate. Been following your build for a bit now. Have you got your Zeva controller installed yet?

I'm considering it for my build, but just not sure if it will provide the performance I'm after - atm it's either the Zeva or the Netgain 1k/160v WarpDrive, but I really don't want to spend that much money on a controller if the Zeva woprks :)

  • @unnefer1978 - Not yet - at the end of this week, it should be installed. The ZEVA MC600S supplies 600Amps of motor current. Does your motor need more than that?

  • @unnefer1978 - I have now installed the ZEVA MC600S controller and it works great! I can push it with the car doing 90Km/hr and it only gets slightly warm. It seams to handle all I can give it. I've only seen a max. of about 320amps (Battery Current) so the motor current could be up around the 600Amps mark. (I don't measure motor current.)

  • Wow Ric, very nice conversion! It's looking great, very professional. I'm currently beginning my work on the Open Revolt controller and hope to have it finished in a month or so. Let me know how the Thundersky cells work out for you, and also information with range and speed.

    Kyle

  • @kylehondarider - Thanks Kyle. It will be good to see yours moving again.
