Amsterdam is my favorite city in Holland. I was there 2 times already this year. I'm from Bremen / Germany which is 360km away from Amsterdam.

the "ij" is indeed a lake now, it used to be the sea. however we build a dike in the 1930's wich made ik and a large other area into lakes, they also dug a canal on the other side of the lake to create a new way to the ocean.
