The designers of both cars took different directions in what they think a sports car should be, and in the end accomplished nearly identical lap times.
The ZR1 starts at $112,000 and the GTR starts at $84,000. The GTR is neck and neck to the ZR1, so put the $28000 that you saved buying a GTR into modding your GTR and the ZR1 is toast along with a whole line of other exotic overpriced cars as well. Plus the ZR1 looks like a normal cheap dime a dozen corvette. The GTR has the "WoW" factor whether it be shit talking haters or congratulators. Nuff Said
@bagggggyo ZR1 starts at 106k Usd, and you could put that 21k Usd difference in the GT-R, and at the same time, you could put the 9years of development, all the electronic aids, the DSG, the 4wd system with the R35 tyres in the ZR1, then thats only fair instead of one sided....

@venomviper32 Fact is they put better tyres on it upped the bhp by 5 and altered the suspention (not for the ring but for production) it's called the Series II GTR the 2010 model from the 2009 model. Basically the 2009 model released in 2008 was tweaked like all car manufacturers do and released the 2009 GTR calling it the 2010, or Series II. there is another version next year with Spec V parts in it called, yes you guessed it the Series III GTR!

The SP850 GTR its a full weight (1,749+ KG) street car and does 1/4 mile in 9.6 seconds !!

I'm 100% positive that bot indeed started in different locations. I use a video editing software frame by frame .01 to be exact. Look very closely at the sign to the right the ZR1's time starts just passed the sign while the GT-R starts about almost two car lengths before the sign .67 to be exact. Since the GTR was only .3 slower I wanted to put them together within .005 of a sec together, now that's as close as your gonna get :-)
I could have just left them just over a half second apart but the gap was just to obvious and inaccurate. Everyone knows at these speeds just one tenth of a second back is very noticeable so I wanted to bring both cars as close together as possible from start to finish. ^_^
Can I just point out the price difference, and the fact that you can add more hp to the GT-R, but not to the ZR1, and that the ZR1 is the top of the line Corvette while you still get the Spec V for the GT-R.
That said, the Corvette is and always have been the best american car ever made in terms of handling, and has always been the exception that proves the rule in that regard. Kudos.
@rojas8504 Why? The GTR is packing more technology then Luke's X-Wing, which helps it slay turns so well while the ZR1 makes due with the technology from a Roman Chariot and it and it still won. So I would blame the closeness of the race on the ZR1s leaf springs and not it's engine. It's LS9 would actually put the GTR to shame if your talking about a race to 200 as the little motor in the GTR doesn't have enough power to make it hit 200. Both cars are amazing though. Good day.

The ZR1 chasis isnt setup for AWD you cant just throw AWD at it, and expect to be the same car.. you can however with some modification add some extra (not necessarily 200hp) power to the GTR that would most likely result in it being faster then the ZR1.
Fact of the matter is they are both amazing cars, and i think ANYONE would be happy driving either
ZR1 was definitely faster, I think the ZR1 driver screwed up a little at the very very end on the very last corner, resulting in it's lap time being .3 slower than the GT-R. Both amazing cars.
GT-R spent clearly more time on throttle in the corners, and thus, got out faster. it was also more calm to drive at the limit, letting the driver to push harder. He could also brake a lot later, which is pretty courageous considering that the GT-R is about 300kg heavier than the ZR1. Suzuki trusts the car, where as the ZR1-driver doesn't have that luxury.
Yea the ZR1 has 620 horses under its hood far more than the GT-R here and still the GT-R shows how amazing it's engineered keeping up neck and neck with the ZR1.
Give the GT-R 600hp+ and it would then eat/spit the ZR1 out of it's rear end O_O.

look at the Bugatti Veyron, it finishes in 7:40

4 seconds ahead of ZR1. This video is now obsolete.
Manufacturer times are biased anyway, Sport Auto tends to be a reliable source.

The ZR1 make close to what? 200 more HP than the GTR? so it is quicker in the straits, but can touch the GTR for grip.
Add 200 the GTR and it would be much quicker, add 200 to the ZR1 and it would be uncontrollable. The chassis is clearly at it's limit.
