You made me cry. We lived in Murrisk and our kids attended St. Augustine's School, across from the Famine Ship sculpture. Seeing that and so many other familiar images like the Mall in Westport, paired with this lovely song, makes my heart ache for Ireland. It was an Irish movie. It was filled with Irish actors, and contained countless subltle Irish traditions and cultural nuances. The fact that it was filmed on the Isle of Man is not relevant. The opening scenes to Saving Private Ryan were filmed in Ireland, does that mean it was not about WW II since it was not filmed in France?

It was a terrific tale, the scenery was spectacular, and the soundtrack was second to none.

Ah yah thats quite possible, but the version they do on their CD is different, it has no accompanyment and much more harmonies and shite, and sung in a nasaly style, hence why its sean nos and this isnt. This may be performed by the Voice Squad but its not their normal version . Il see if I can find a link for it.

Believe it or not, there are still some 'finger in the ear' purists who dislike this version, too 'popped up' for their liking. Admittedly, the original is rather more sedate. As for the High Kings version being better, I must disagree, check out The Voice Squad who provided backing vocals for this version, a classic trio if ever there was ! Thanks for the video, made very pleasant viewing. Sounds sad, but I've visited Ireland a number of times, and never heard this song being sung :-(

Walking down Duval Street in Key West on July 25, 2008, as we passed Irish Kevin's, we heard the artist on stage singing The Parting Glass. My 8 year old son looked at me and said, "isn't that song The Parting Glass?" How great is that? Yes, Ian, that is The Parting Glass!
