It was pretty tricky, but basically first i made a comp where i extracted the character by using a few copys of the footage layer and a few masks, untill i had a clean plate without the character. Then i put a copy of the original footage on top of the clean-plate comp. Next i cut the original footage layer at the point i wanted the character to dissapear(ctrl,shift,d) and then i froze the frame. After that i masked the the character and used cc-pixel poly to make him explode.
