  • check out cdcoleman92 his version is amazing!

  • loved this version :D

  • what are the lyrics some parts are hard to understand

  • @happysun995 I can't post them in the reply because they won't fit, but I have added them at the end of the description above. Just click on Show More and then scroll to the end. Thanks for watching!

  • @flowflix thank you very much :)

  • Lookie, snowflakes!! :D

  • NB4: They could sing the Chinese take out menu and I think I'd still be smitten.

  • They would totally change the meaning of this song by singing it the way they did. They. Would. Perfect.

  • At the 2:20 mark... I die.

  • @serafina1 I think we all did a little bit.

  • Why are they so brilliant?

  • This was my alarm clock wake up call for years! Brill ;)

  • This was originally written by the Governor of Louisiana. This is how the melody is supposed to go. It's so amazing. It's sort of ironic how many sing this to their children when they are trying to put them to bed. love The Civil Wars

  • it wasn't a "happy" song to begin with

  • 3 fuckin dislikes _|_

  • what most people don't know is that these are the ORIGINAL lyrics.....

  • this makes me cry every time!!!

  • I like how it's a happy song, but in a minor key. It makes it sound so melancholy.

  • @newsgirl132 its not happy.

  • @newsgirl132 The song was never a happy song...

  • I love the way they sing this old song so differently .. really awesome.

  • zero dislikes.... that should tell you everything to know about these two

  • wow!

  • @kendras2210 I completely agree

  • Ironic. In a time passed, a lullaby so beautiful, a cradle song of a broken heart. This duet, their expression is brilliant. It was written in grieving and they sang it true to the writers form. My most favoured two.

  • The song was written during a season of grieving. During a time when thoughts were conveyed simplicity and innocence it became popular with comedic skits. It was in association that the song evolved in definition hence sung to offer comfort..ironic, a lullaby, as someones heart breaks.

  • I think anything with 0 dislikes should be promoted by youtube

  • @84erica That is an excellent idea! :-)

  • @flowflix @84erica I agree!

  • this makes me tear up:( my dad would always sing this to me every night. i feel like hugging him right now!

  • the dark Aminor twist is simply genius!

  • It's really amazing what a Minor key can do to transform a song!! THese guys are great!

  • Whoa! way way creepy. I love it! It's awesome!

  • We have a great exclusive interview with The Civil Wars in our April issue. Search for it on our website nashvillearts . com

  • Where can I get a download for this beautiful song? WHERE!

  • @AmyZeugirdor do a youtube to mp3 :)

  • LOVE

    LOVE

    LOVE

    LOVE

  • oh wow... I thought I liked them before, but now I LOVE THEM.

  • He is so sexy xD

  • pure beauty. i could die happy just having this played to me over and over for the rest of my life.

  • I love it!!! It's so beautiful.

  • wow...unfortunately, this song loses a lot being recorded. I saw them live in Ames, Iowa, and it was absolutely unhuman how intense it was. This song made me cry so hard, I could hardly breathe.

  • beautiful rendition!!!

  • WOW!!! my mom sung this song to me when i was a wee boy... but it was never this deep and creepy... speaks to my soul.. i live in philly, so missing this makes mepunch my own face. i love these guys

  • @dabruzah I from Philly too... and I just want to kill myself for miss this.

  • Love the way they transformed this song! Its beautiful, and meaningful, and I can't get enough of these guys! The only problem is I can't find them preforming this song on iTunes!

  • 30 of those 32,201 views are me. I'm addicted.

  • @mariahrhea93 Same here...

  • They remind me so much of The White Stripes for some odd reason. Does anyone know if John Paul White, and Jack White are related?

  • @ThePaleHorseman5 I actually thought of the same thing! Craziness... and you never know, but that would make sense, they're both made of Magik...

  • Yal should cover the song she talks to angels by the black crows and make it even more amazing than it is now! It would be awesome!

  • Awesome. Singing it in a minor makes the song sound more like a plea. Intense Thank you.

  • These two performers are simple the most insatiable group to listen to. I cannot believe that they are not in the top ten groups of 2010. Not only for itunes, but for much larger organizations.

  • this is hauntingly beautiful

  • Wow. A minor key completely changes the meaning of this song. Cool!

  • i like the part where this is awesome as fuck...

  • The beauty of this melody, sings to me like a lullaby...

  • y'all need to listen to them singing Billie Jean.

also, their version of this sounds like something you'd sing at the bedside of a very sick loved one. I love the melancholy style of their songs. So gorgeous.

  • The girl really reminds me of Christina Perri.

and they guy, johnny depp, of course.

  • The Civil Wars can take any song and complete transform it into a beautiful and intense song, purely irresistible .

  • @ILoveBettyWhite24

It was already a good song, they just managed not to ruin it.

  • You are my minor-key sunshine. Awesome.

  • My mom used to sing this to me all the time when i was growing up,

  • amazing.

  • The irony of this traditionally perky/sappy tune being in a minor key (A minor, thrillerlover) is simply delicious.

  • @nonchalantsavant I find it even more ironic that this song was ever perky or slappy... listen to the last verse, it's absolutely depressing.

  • @silendt Have to agree, I think it was Ironic to sing it perkily altogether... It's lyrics mean the world to me, and this version just sums the song up for me, they are bleak as be-damned...

I remember hearing the truth about behind blue eyes by the who too, pete townshend wrote the song as an upbeat and happy one, but everyone played it minor, so it stuck...

  • @nonchalantsavant

I noticed it had a more melancholy essence to it.

  • my grandmama use 2 sing this 2 me as a child, brought me 2 tearz, love it

  • very good! keep it comin'! :-)

  • does anyone know what key this is in???

  • oooooooooooo.......I LOVE THIS! I LOVE YOU GUYS!! You can take any song and make it ten times better!! :)

  • Good Play !!
