In 1967, I was stationed at Ft Wainwright, Ak, near Fairbanks. One of my duties was to stand guard at what was then called Gate #2, which was right by some railroad tracks that led who knows where? Usually around 10:00 PM a freight train would come through there at about 10 MPH, and the engine rocked just like in your video, and the other cars on the train did too. They rocked a LOT, and it was funny to watch them because they were all out of sync. I think it was worse in the winter at -40.
@enterBJ40 The track should be pretty solid! Almost looks like the track was placed on dirt, and not a stone base. This is an old branch line that hasn't seen maintance in a VERY long time.. Thanks for watching...
@jonjoy1999 train wheel going over the rail gap i guess when track gets hot it expands causing the gap to close up it stops the rails distorting everytime we get a hot day
I really like how there is no stupid music in this video. Just good quality sound. Also what makes it rock like that in the beginning? it doesn't look like a very heavy load.
How fun to watch a third world level train in the first country, after watching what my country France is able to do with a TGV running at 300 ou 320 commercial, and able to reach 574,8, after the previous records : 515,3 in 1989, 380 in 1981 and 331 in 1955 !
My lord. The rails sound like they are about ready to fracture. No offense to the Ohio Central, but they should really consider putting out some funds to make theior railroad safer, or they are going to end up with alot of twisted metal. I feel sorry for those passengers lol. They prolly had to OD on a bottle of Tylenol after that one lol. Great video, btw.
@nsrailfann4life91 The safety record of the OHCR is fine. Are you aware of the revenue available to OHCR so that it can put money into track repair?
It's very easy to second guess a railroad when you have no facts. And it's also easy to see why many shortlines are cutting back on allowing excursions such as this one. Even the railfans who often support the endeavor spend their time second guessing what these freight operators do.
I think I heard a few years back when our Carrollton Warriors took that train to do battle with rival Minerva, the train ride took 2 hours to go what, maybe 12 miles?
@DSVetDad Thanks DSVet! You are exactly right! If people would at least take the time to read the discription, they would know whats going on. I don't understand the ridiculous title on this video!!! Why the heck would anyone need a neckbrace for this? Your average 90 year old could out run this train. Seriously?
Only a wimpy engineer would need a neck brace after that. He should retire if thats the case. The track is a little rough but no threat of a derailment. Most ppl have no idea of how hard it is to derail a train. I bet $100 the engineer if fine and is used to this route.
looks like some type of school feild trip or some kind of tourist trap type trip, very slow moving and old unused section of not very well maintained track!

@1jackdk No, that was N&W track...owned by the W&LE today. The PC had tracks at the other end of the Minerva Branch about 3 miles east of this location.
Nice vid you got here, Are those rails even safe? I can hear the rails creaking under the weight of the train ready to snap at any moment. Whats with the coaches? They look like they haven't seen grease or paint for years.
@Fireheart528 I love comments like yours. It's so simple!!! "Fix the dang track". LOL. And while you're at it cure world hunger.
It takes money to "fix the dang track". So many tourist operations are hanging on by a thread, in particular given in the last two years ridership is down for so many.
In reality this is just a bit of rock accentuated by the lense. I've seen far worse.
LOL looks like the engineer was gettin busy in there, and brought along some company haha. When engine 4099 is inclined, she's all mine. I presume he fell asleep at a strange angle. You train watching types are a bit delusional, heads up in the normal world this is about as exciting as a cheese cake
Right next to wehre I work, they have a set of old tracks like this. It is a service pur that runs from the small Van Nuys swithing yard, to the Budweiser plant. While stacking the cars making the big trains, or unstacking. You can see the engineer rocking around big time. Plus when they are making the grain delivery to the Bud plant. They have to take it real slow. The other two main lines are laser leveled, and the trains take those around 70.
@AngelMama020406 i know right i thought someone was going to trip on the tracks why would the engineer need a neck brace lol like you said to stay awake
Apparently some viewers have never bounced around in a locomotive cab while riding over ridiculously rough track. Looks like the engineer was nearly flung out of his seat at one point. I remember reading a story by one engineer about how some GE's will beat you to a pulp even on good track. This track reminds me of the Minneapolis, Northfield and Southern in the '70's when there was no maintenance budget and the ballast was pea gravel and mud.
@AngelMama020406 Thats funny! There was nothing in the title that even implied there was a crash. You would need a neck brace if you get a whip-lash, and the way the guys head was bouncing around, he may have gotton one. Sorry it was a let down, and you didn't see the crash you where hoping for. Thanks for watching anway...
Isn't amazing you photo places I've been to. I used to do track work on OHIRAIL out of Manerva. It was an opportunity to run my motorcar. We went through the Tunnel which has now been "daylighted". We ran out of Amsterdam too. On my way home I stopped @ Carolton. Is this the line that had the dinner train?
@asshole7817 Ohhh!!! That's REAL good pickle nose! I guess after a 1/4 of a million hits on the video, we got to expect to see stupid shit from people like yourself, Chicken lips!!! Go watch another dance video!
@1jackdk ya..... dats true, after watching such an ass video people wont be switching on this link again, people are hitting on video because of train and not because of the shit which ass clown people like you have shown. sit at home and keep watching only your video.more than3/4 of this must have watched by you yourself or perhaps more than that.....
@asshole7817 Why don't you go back to school and learn how to put a sentence together loser!!! You illiterate bastard. I usually delete the assenine stuff thats's posted by mindless freaks like you, but I'm going to keep this on just so everyone can see how stupid you really are. You need to find a new boy friend. Your outa here!!!
people who think this is a grass grow video maybe should play vid games or something...some people dont like to see elephants,or watch the moon move across the sky... i do...this is a train not a sit com..great vid...tnx for posting
@laphant It is caused by low joints in the rail. The Weight of the locomotive and the train tends to beat the joints down, and makes a low spot in the ballast. Which in this case, the ballast has turned into dirt . There has been cases that some cars will start rocking so bad, that they will fall over on their sides.
With such light jointed rail I am amazed that they are running a US road engine at all on this line. I would think something like an EMD G8 or a Alco DL351 would have been a better option
very rarely do i ever comment on videos but jeez, this was like watch the worlds most boring movie waiting for a punchline that never comes. why would this engineer need a neck brace!? what was the point of wasting your time to even post this? i want the 3 min and 24 sec of my life back.....
@blc48183 Sorry you waisted your time. Maybe you need to go watch grass grow or something else more constructive. I see on your page, you don't have anything good to say about anyones videos. You need to get a life. Ore maybe a new find a new boyfriend...

Where was this? Those coaches, like the CNJ car next to the unit. (Unmarked) were pretty interesting. That car is at least 80 to 90 years old.

Another very fine video.
Beautiful all American rolling stock, thoughtfully filmed.
-But 'CONRAIL' makes me laugh. -I think of the movie 'ConAir' & imagine ''Jail-on-rails'' !
With tracks like that, how long before Sea-Sickness tablets become mandatory for rail travellers ?!

Penn Central track!

@1jackdk might wanna look into getting some ribbon rail

I have rode some of those passenger excursions. The rolling stock and rails are so old that traveling any faster might mean a derailment.

fix your damn tracks

Isn't amazing you photo places I've been to. I used to do track work on OHIRAIL out of Manerva. It was an opportunity to run my motorcar. We went through the Tunnel which has now been "daylighted". We ran out of Amsterdam too. On my way home I stopped @ Carolton. Is this the line that had the dinner train?

people who think this is a grass grow video maybe should play vid games or something...some people dont like to see elephants,or watch the moon move across the sky... i do...this is a train not a sit com..great vid...tnx for posting
laphant 1 year ago
what causes the train to rock like that please? is it actuallly in danger??r
laphant 1 year ago
@laphant It is caused by low joints in the rail. The Weight of the locomotive and the train tends to beat the joints down, and makes a low spot in the ballast. Which in this case, the ballast has turned into dirt . There has been cases that some cars will start rocking so bad, that they will fall over on their sides.

for YOU IDIOTS OUT THERE THE VIDEO IS INTERESTING CANT YOU GUYS SEE THAT THE TRAIN IS BOWLING YOU RETARDS
coolcatevan9 1 year ago
Woble Woble Woble..That is funny. Those tracks need leveling. That could derail a train.
Bassotronics 1 year ago
That was so cool !! can you make another one just like it ?? If not ill just watch it over and over..
godsson4ever 1 year ago
With such light jointed rail I am amazed that they are running a US road engine at all on this line. I would think something like an EMD G8 or a Alco DL351 would have been a better option
