Saw Lou at Brixton Academy in the early 80s. Remains the best concert for me this day. Would love to hear that wounded, shattered glass of a voice do an album of cole porter songs.
That tour Pre dated punk , defined Sydney Kings X and Blue Printed the best Australian Rock n Roll for Years to come....Sure led me astray, the day I saw this on GTK at age 15.
I was at his concert in Melbourne I don't know what month it was but at the end I jumped up onstage and walked off with my arm around his shoulder. There was no security in those days just some chick who told me to piss off. Lou didn't know anything at all not at all .....cheers kiddies
God love his heart; alas, Lou could not keep up with the guitar work of "Rock n Roll" or "Sweet Jane". This video does not do the studio version justice as both songs are near the top of my all time guitar hit list. Check out the album or in my case the 8-track.
Uh, this just doesn't work. It looks and sounds like some art college kid doing the thing and believing that he's doing it great. Well, you can't be a champ every day.
I think it was the lead singer of the celebate rifles, Damian Lovelock who said the toilets at the horden looked like a doctors surgery with various contraband being handed around.
Before that Hunter was in a group called Detroit which had Mitch Ryder as lead vocalist and Wagner was in a group called Frost. Both were Michigan bands.
Sorry wharfrat, but Hunter and Wagner had left before this tour (Sally Can't Dance). This is Danny Weiss on guitar. Saw the same band (different drummer) at Detroit's Masonic Temple, one of the dozen times I saw Lou live.
Honestly, I love the guy, but during this era, it bordered on parody. Totally incoherent, f*&$ed up. The dude playing the B3 should have gotten paid more for this gig than Lou. He is out of his gourd!
Wow yoos guys are lost. This is the NUT !!!This is total , on the edge ,not settling for the average performance.I was lucky to see great performances every time I saw Lou Reed, but I never saw this ! I'd give my left body to have been there. But I wouldn't give up the 'Take no Prisoners/Street Hassle' show!!
Wow..as a LR fan since many years..I have to say that this video is interesting as a part of rock history, but to be honest..he was completely stoned at that time and furthermore I never did like so much the keys and guitar on that tour. In a word, when he loose Hunter and Wagner everything has been quite different..and never ask him about that time: he might hate you:-)
I wish I could travel time and see one of these performances live. Don't get me wrong - I love the performances I saw for the Ecstasy and Raven tours, they were fabulous. But you just can't beat these R&R Animalesque performances (I know this is a bit post R&R animal - but same sound nonetheless). AWESOME and thanks for posting.
@brownchicken "This should be the national anthem of the USA" hahaha made me laugh out loud! i have a link for a FREE mp3 download, your comment is 4 years old but if you still dig it drop me a message i'll send you the link.

I would love to see some live vids from the "rock and roll animal" era with Dick Wagner and the other guy can't think of his name on guitars.
