@gregboyds Really, than how come 70% of all Land Rovers are still on the road and last year I was able to meet up with thousands of other sires owners last year at a classic car event? You will probably find it was the heat and humidity, and this will destroy most other cars you import especially as most others are made of steel not corrosion resistant aluminium.

@syncmaster710n14 BMWs will do about 30mpg and thats about 7.5 liter/100km, Skodas about 35-40mpg about 6liter/100km, Ford Crown Victorias 22mpg about 11liter/100km. But dont let it fool you, I guarantee the Ford will last 3-4 times longer than the BMW and way longer than the Skoda. Anyway I counted in American gallons cuz I know 1 gallon in the UK is 4.5 liters while in the US its 3.75 liters.

@DesertStateNevada I see your point but it does not really mater as here in the UK we recycle the majority of car part (melting down body panels ect), oh and if you want a really long lasting car try a Land Rover, I have a 1976 sires 3, and although its not the fastest or powerful truck in the world it has lasted me YEARS, the body is made of aerospace grade aluminium which means no rust.

At least not the luxo barges you see being driven around by house wives and an assortment of retirees. Why do you think they depreciate like mad? An 07 HSE Supercharged with low miles is worth FAR beyond half of the original MSRP. I won't speak for the Defender because I'm somewhat inclined to believe it's a well made vehicle because electronics aren't a huge factor.

Well, someone I work with has an Opel Astra, absolutely the worst car he has ever had. Now every Opel/Vauxhall is bad? In general Octavia's are extremely reliable. No real surprise, underneath they are EXACTLY the same as a Golf (and not a Passat, like you as a 'car expert' were saying).

@classicczech Seat, and Skoda are under VW concept, so the story I had written in my first post is true! my friend has VW Polo 2000 and it is the same as Seat Toledo, same thing is whit Octavia this generation and Passat 98' (the worse Passat ever!) .generaly,all new cars were built whit a mistake deliberately.... yes, I've had some bad experience whit my octavia, but that is my opinion so don't be ofended...... my dream is to buy, in original state, Opel Kadett C GT/E Coupe or VW Golf MK1 GTI

@dexter199 You couldn't be more wrong. The Skoda Superb shares its floorcomponents with the Passat, the Octavia has the same floorpan as the Golf. Please look it up, because it's true. The first Superb indeed had the old and longuated floorpan of the old Passat. But by my knowing the old Passat was also a good car.

VW Golf MK1 GTI is a real classic, a nice car to have. Opel Kadett C is the last good Kadett Opel made.
