  • @mirian593 No problem! Thanks for watching. :o)

  • I just made this! It took me about 30 min but that's with cutting out the fabric, pressing it and all the way to putting the pillow in. I made a 14 1/2 by 9 1/2 pillow (I got it on an airplane so it literally cost me less than a dollar for it since I got my fabric at 60% :) Thanks so much!!!!

  • @jgourley1209 woo-hoo!! I'm so glad to hear it! Go you! :o)

  • What a great video. You are a great instructor and make it very simple, Thank you for sharing.

  • @MyBleedingPen NO problem! :o)

  • Can this project be done with fleece?

  • @kells1104 Absolutely! Have fun! :o)

  • if I have 16x16 pillow, how do i measure how much fabric I need to buy?

  • @maverickrapture You can tell the fabric store associate your measurements and they will cut the necessary piece for you. I would buy at least 1/2 yard of fabric for a 16" x 16" pillow.

  • this was by far the easiest and helpful instructions i've come across on youtube. I LOVE IT! thank xmillion! (:

  • @yourcuppaJOE No problem! Thanks for posting. :o)

  • What if I do not know the size of my pillow form? How do you measure that?

  • @251melabelle Measure across either the top or bottom seam on the pillow form for your width and then along one of the sides for your length. Hope that helps.

  • Thank you for this video from germany :))

  • @dazwiebel Gern geschehen! Glad you enjoyed it. :o)

  • After watching your tutorial I thought I would give this a try. I don't sew and this is definitely a great beginner project. Your step by step instructions made it easy to follow and understand. My pillow cover turned out great and has received lots of compliments! Thank you for making this video!

  • @paperscout No problem! So glad to hear it! Good for you for giving it a try.. :o)

  • Just finished making my first pillowcase, thanks to you and your tutorial! :)

  • @sweetbirdofparadox1 Yay! I'm glad to help!

  • Hi Vanessa, can cording be added to this pillow? If so, at what point would you add the cording and how would you do it? Thanks for your time.

  • @LuvMuzic21 You can but it can be a little tricky. You need to add it in between the two fabric layers when you sew. I have a tutorial for making the cording and adding it to a pillow on my list of tutorials to do... just keep looking out for it not sure how soon I will get it done.. but it will happen sooner than later. :o)

  • Thanks for the tutorial, it's really helpful.

  • @accy87 No problem. Glad to help! :o)

  • @marcywacker Thank you!

  • Your videos are great. This is wondeerful. I am going to make this.

  • @51Saffron Thanks so much! Glad to help. :o)

  • Thank you for this! Do you recommend any sewing machine for beginners?

  • @MiaVitaBella No problem. There are so many great machines out there it's hard to recommend one. I really like to use Janome and Brother machines myself. Hope that helps. :o)

  • Hey! I really love your videos and I'm going to try them sometime when I get my "tomato" full of pins. (I'm a beginning sewer). I have a quick question. Do you recommend any type of scissors to cut fabric? I've been making some t-shirt totes and my scissors just aren't able to cut that well.

  • @deathlyreaper996 Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy my tutes. For cutting fabric I recommend a rotary cutter instead of scissors. They are sharp and cut with a lot of precision. To use them you need to have the rotary cutting mat and some rulers. Check out my "Cutting Basics" video for all the info and tips on cutting, etc. Hope that helps.

  • Very easy to follow instructions, it's on my list of projects

  • @r1j2a3 Yay! Have fun. :o)

  • Thank you so much Vanessa. This video is detailed yet easy to follow. I am a total newbie to sewing and as a teacher myself, you've done an excellent job in explaining what to do. I am excited to get started and as there are NO Zips, I am even more excited. Thank you

  • @Rinda1972 You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it. Happy sewing.

  • Thanks so much, you did a great job showing and explaining.

  • @cherylmeiers No problem! Glad you enjoyed it! :o)

  • Great video!!!! Like that it is step by step and easy to follow.

Thank you from a newbie seamstress:)

  • @minivansrock10 No problem! Be sure to subscribe... I post a new tutorial every Monday. I have a lot more beginner sewing projects posted to my channel, too. Check them out!

  • I will be trying this very soon! Thanks so much for the tutorial.

  • @gonatural11 No problem! Let me know how it turns out when you do try it. :o)

  • Wow, your the bomb digity! (as my husbands tells me when I cook, lol)

I have a very good heavy duty sewing machine and you have inspired me to Put it to work,, it just to be my mom's. She used to make toilet paper covers, bathroom curtains and toilet seat covers 20 years ago. My machine is about 10 years old, but works like new. I cant wait to buy fabric!!! Its there a starter kit that has pins, measuring tape or ect?

  • @CRISMELY LOL. Thanks! Sometimes the older machines are the best ones! I've seen some stores sell a little kit like that but most of the time its really cheap quality so it's better to buy good quality tools separately when they are on sale on with a coupon. They will last you longer. Congrats and have fun! It can be addictive!

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial! Where can I find the least expensive pillow forms?

  • @apileofscrap probably at a yard sale or thrift store. You can buy old pillows for really cheap. Just cut the cover of of it, wash it and re-cover it with your new homemade covers.

  • I'm a beginner and this is the best video I've found for a great starter pillow cover. Thanks much! :)

  • @sevillabruja You're welcome! Glad it helped you. :o)

  • I absolutely adore how clear you are with your directions. I am not a sewing beginner but I can get easily lost with some directions others have given. You do a fabulous job of getting straight to the point without talking down to people. Thank you so much for doing these tutorials!!

  • I wish I could press 'love it' instead of just 'like'!!!! thankyou so much for the tutorial!!!!

  • @muskokabird76 LOL. Thanks so much! Glad to help! :o)

  • Great tutorial! Thank you for your easy to follow instructions.

  • your lovely!

  • @liverlee100 Thanks!

  • Loved it!!!

    Can't wait to try

  • @shinypath Glad to hear it! Have fun sewing. :o)

  • Great tutorial. Thank you!

  • @secondbase No problem!

  • What is that top board you use to measure and cut the fabric? The yellow one.

  • @Emily3383 That's just a square ruler I use.

  • i cant wait to try this! ive been struggling to make a pillow. lol

  • @Emily3383 I think you'll really enjoy making this one. It's easy and so customizable. Have fun! :o)

  • great tutorial! can't wait to try it out

  • Thank you so much, Crafty Gemini. You made my first sewing project a good one. I have been scared to try sewing again since I was in eighth grade home economics and got a bad grade. Now, two decades later with a great teacher willing to do a instructional video, I had sewing success for the first time!

  • @professorholmes40 Congrats on giving it another try! I'm glad my tutorial worked for you. :o) Keep it up!

  • That was so easy. I did it with the video. My first time seeing the video actually. Felt like it wud work. Ur a great teacher

  • @lovepigz2007 Glad you gave it a try! Thanks for posting. :o)

  • Awesome! Thank you for this! You have me "almost" convinced to turn into a Crafty Virgo!

  • @Ssaiph haha.. you can do it! :o)

  • sooo how much material do you need?

  • @sbspgirl21 depends on the size of your pillow form. Like I mention in the video go inch larger on all sides for the front measurement and add for inches to the length for the back of it.

  • @TheCraftyGemini how much material did u get for ur pillow in the video?

  • @sbspgirl21 half a yard and cut it down to the pieces I needed.

  • @TheCraftyGemini ok thank u soo much, i have some material i havent even used, so ill try it out tonight, hope i dont mess up..:-D

  • Thanks for the video! This was my first sewing project and you made it so easy!

  • @AngelSong76 That's awesome. Glad I could help.

  • Very good tutorial, thanks for posting it! Just wondered if I plan to top-stitch the edges of my pillow cover when I turn it right side out, if I need to cut my fabric a little larger?

  • @jenniferc1135 Thanks. Do you plan on making it more like a pillow sham with a flange going all the way around the front of the cover? If so I would an extra 1.5" or so depending on the size of your pillow. Measure the distance all the way around the front while its still laying flat, stitch on the line and then insert the pillow. Make sure the size you are leaving for the pillow inside the top stitches is big enough to fit the pillow form. Hope that helps.

  • Thank you so much for this video..it will be my first project! :)

  • @pollarstar007 Great! If you're on Facebook feel free to share pictures on my page of your finished pillow covers: facebook(dot)com/CraftyGemini

  • Love the Video it was a big help!

  • @CHS1488 No problem! Glad to help.

  • Thanks for posting this video! Very clear and straightforward instructions. Can't wait to start sewing some pillows.

  • @AdoboGirlie No problem. Have fun with it!

  • Great video. Very easy directions to follow. I can't wait to tackle recovering all my accent pillows.

  • @LookinGood2009 Thanks! Glad to help! :o)

  • That is the cutest iron EVER!!! ^_^

  • @OkalRelsDaughter Thanks! It is a handy tool to have for small projects. :o)

  • You are awesome... you made it sooo easy. Thank you. also Love your name

  • @jona457 Thank you! :o)

  • If you are doing a bigger cushion cover should you add more inches for the envelope on the back as I have 20" and I don't think 4" would look quite right? Also thanks for the video, it is a great help!

  • @DJAngiePangie It's based more so on the fluffiness of the pillow so if it is a really plump 20" pillow definitely add more to the overlap on the back. Otherwise, you can add more if you just don't like the look of a narrow overlap on the back, too. Hope that helps.

  • You make it look so simple! Gonna sew my baby's little pillow case asap! Thanks! ;)

  • @simarvld Thanks! Glad you are gonna give it a try. :o)

  • Using this tutorial as a base - am now producing all sorts of creative work - thanks a lot, terrific work. Cheers!

  • @frausmithy Yay! That's what I love to hear! You gotta just jump right into it! Go you!

  • this was such an easy to follow tutorial. thanks! gonna get started...

  • @sofettes Glad to hear!

  • You're a STAR!! Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial. I loved it and have just made my first ever cushion. Am really pleased with it. Thank you!

  • @dottydogbiz Yay! Congrats to you! Glad to help. :o)

  • Thanks so much! I once read that you should get a pillow that is larger than the case a bit; however, you have illustrated that it's just the opposite. I'm finishing a pillow I'm making tonight and will definitely now use the envelope closure..... I appreciate your taking the time to help us wanna be sewers!

  • @dihjet No problem! Happy sewing.

  • If I have a really puffy pillow do I need to change the measurements?

  • @archangel61787 If its really puffy you may want to add more inches to the back length. so that the fold over part won't pop open with the bulk of the pillow. So, for example.. instead of just 4" add like 6" or 7". You may also want to add 2" to each side measurement instead of just 1". It just depends on how puffy the pillow actually is. Hope that helps. Happy sewing!

  • You're a great teacher. Thank you.

  • @Drmom1949 No problem! Glad to help! Happy sewing! :o)

  • so so helpful! thanks

  • @Maycub88 You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Again another great vid? My sister has asked if I will make her a couple for christmas but with the envelope to the front with buttons on. Looks easier than I thought so thanks x

  • @vanillakittenmittens Ooh! That will look cute, I bet! Have fun with it.. glad to help. :o)

  • that was great,so easy,i want to make them but want to put bobble trim around the edges. Can this be done using this style or would it have to be a zipper cover?

  • @MsMojolove Thanks. What is "bobble trim?" I'm not familiar with that.

  • @MsMojolove I think you can just put the edge of the bobble trim inside the cover before you do the last bit of sewing. If it's the kind of trim I'm thinking of, it looks like ribbon with little pom poms attached to it. You could pin the 'ribbon' bit of the trim on to the front piece of the cushion, with the pom poms pointing towards the center of the square of fabric. Then continue as usual (from 4:42 on this video), and when you turn the cover over, you should see the pom poms.

  • This was great thanks now all I need is a sewing machine haha.

  • @dragonflysandee haha... I recommend checking craigslist for really cheap used machines or see if any of your friends and/or family have one someone isn't using.

  • i just completed my 1st sewing projecct today with this video, thank you! my seams puckered a bit, I slightly messed up one corner and one side is so uneven I'm not sure what cushion it will fit but practice makes perfect. Thank you for such straightforward instructions :)

  • @susanastar If the seams are puckering you may have too much tension on your thread setting. CHeck your manual for instructions on adjusting the thread tension on your machine. In order to sew straight it takes some practice... remember NOT to look at the needle when you are sewing. The needle is stationery and only goes up and down. What you have to guide straight is the fabric so keep an eye out for the edge of your fabric and whatever you choose as your seam allowance guide. Hope that helps!

  • shown so simply, cant wait to try one, thanks

  • @keziaa2011 Thanks! Let me know how it turns out and feel free to share pics on my facebook page- facebook(dot)com/CraftyGemini

  • Hello, I just had to thank you so much for this tutorial. Being a guy who is VERY new to sewing, I was nervous to even try an envelope pillow cover. You took away the fears. :) I truly appreciate your explaining this while not "talking down" to us beginners. :) Thanks much!

  • @tedology No problem!! Glad you enjoyed it and are considering trying your hand at it. It's not as hard as people think it is! GO FOR IT! Let me know how they turn out.

  • I like the mini iron !!
