I know firsthand that low tire pressure can be very bad on dirt roads, almost lost control of my V45 Magna got back and checked... i had 3psi in the front tire and 7 in the back
They charge you for air here to , so got myself a compressor and an pressure gage. When you use it enough it's much cheaper then checking at the gas station.
I check daily. Since my front tyre has a leak that causes it to lose 10psi by the end of classes at uni. I have to constantly pump it every morning and night... annoying as
not sure if you mis said it but the side of the tyre IS NOT THE PLACE TO CHECK FOR THE AIR PRESSURE. The proper inflation spec is located either in the owners manual, side of driver door, or on the back of the gas door. Always check your manual/vehicle for what the pressure should be at. Don't put in what the tyre says. The side of the tyre has *usually* the Max inflation pressure but not whatyou should have.
Pressure is important don't mess it up, as SHC said on a bike - it can kill you.
@jhuey936 I was referring to your comment about tire pressure and cars :p
although this may amuse you watch?v=VbdkZB9-Sd4
But i do agree with you Pressure is very important, get it right for the most grip, with a contact patch smaller than the palm of your hand for each tyre at highway speeds, you want your pressure set right so you have the most grip possible, that and getting a flat, scary stuff.
@ecookman I know what you meant, I was just being a smartass. The sticker in the doorframe on the driver door, but now you've got me thinking... Where the hell would it be on a bike? I guess you'd have to consult the manual.... or the interwebs.
@jhuey936 sorry for some reason i put you instead of him/his in a spot wow fail...
for general riding it would be probably in the manual. For my dirtbike the proper inflation pressure is in the manual, the tires are rated to 35PSI but the manual calls for 15 lol HUGE difference. BUT for different riding conditions you do alter the tyre pressure Eg track racing, Hot days and so on with street bikes that is. [from my understanding]
I check my tires frequently, especially before a long trip. All Tires lose pressure.
One of the best tools in my garage is the compressor. It has many uses, and can be bought pretty cheap through Harbor Freight. You don't have to have a big compressor to do the job.
Is there any difference in tubeless and tube tyres? cause in my country all bikes run on tube tyres

maybe you could take a class that teaches you to do Maintenance on your bike?.... you will save loads of cash in the end... just a thought for you...

I check mine every weekend. Tip: Don't use gas station gauges.. most seem way off. $5 for a digital gauge is worth it if you have a motorcycle.

I am amazed you have to pay for air, here in Australia, air is free.

@cyclopse50 You really should get a new tyre, not worth risking it.
