What is a good starter camera that is not super expensive and easy for beginners? I used to have a Canon A640 and dropped it and it took great pictures but I didn't know how to use all the features. At 10mp, it wasn't ideal for anything more than an 8x10 print. I would like to take more pictures in B&W, Sepia and things in color. My favorites are classic looking photos or one with shadow, capturing a person in deep thought and can never get a good shot with good colors unless I edit it PC.
Seeing continuously someone's face for 10 minutes and hear him talking is didactically probably not the best method...It gets boring after a very short time.
Put some more action into the lessons then you can possibly also sell your CD better.
Awesome tutorials for a beginer like myslef. Thanks a million...especiall since my work requires me to take photos naturally and not using any photo enhancement programs such as Photoshop or Lightroom.
Another great vid man. I turn servo AF off to use "focus lock" but from what you mentioned I might not have to. Will experiment with it. You're damn cool dude, keep it up. Thanks for the useful tips!
I have a Canon Rebel EOS . I love this camera ,but and don't laugh ,I recently went to the Zoo. I got MANY great shots of FENCES. I could not figure out how to get the great shots. Which I missed many :(. I feel really dumb after watching this video) ,but so thankful I did. I am going back to that ZOO. ! Thank you very much for making me get out of the Green Box!

at 3:42 is that also same as continuous focusing? so you lock down in the center then move the camera to a different position and it still focus's on the area you locked on. like when you move the camera it still focus's on the light of the car, even though you moved it out the center? get back to me im only a begginer thnks.
hi is AI focus just another continuous focus? i have an olypmus e510 and it has AF, S-AF (singal AF), C-AF (continuous AF) and MF. then it has combinations of all these. just wondering if i can relate to what ur saying with my camera.
i've learned a lot in this chapter! good job man! please confirm my friend request on facebook and if it is not too much to ask check out some of my shots and please let me know what you think..that would be fantastic! i'm just starting to shoot, so i look up to you as a professional photographer and a mentor! keep it up! ...i'll surely continue watching..thank you!
For those situations with little or no light how are u managing the focusing so that it is tack sharp? Some images you could light up with artificial lighting, focus and then turn it off but there are many other situations where you can't do this. I can't seem to quite get that sharpness in on my shots. I am turning the autofocus feature of my Canon lenses off and using manual but there has to be some trick to get those nice images to come out more clear.
@meltdownman1 Stabilize your camera with a tripod for the longer shutter speeds. Also lighting your subject with a flash and letting the ambient light in though a slow shutter speed while your camera is mounted on a tripod may work for you as well. Hope this helps.
thanks for posting all these tutorials, they have helped me alot. I want to buy DSLR but not sure which one to get? I am looking and the Canon EOS range and Nikons cameras, please help :) thanks!
i like the way you teach sir very effective and those punching lines of encouragement ...makes me motivated to learn more about photography.im here in israel and i would like to ask how could i possibly get your dvd.thank you
WOW! this is a great tutorial! I've just watched like the first 3 or 3 tutorial and I already feel like I'm getting it! ;)
I have a question which might sound stupid, but are you Muslim? I don't know why am asking but I kind of felt something from the way you speak lol (I'm Muslims by the way)
Sorry, I didn't catch it but how do you change your focus?? you just do it manually? Where do you change it? I have Nikon D90 and it just AF on or off. I just started photography 2days ago! haha btw i love your videos!
thanks bro,im fan of yours, keep it up and the thing that i like your site is that its easy to understand and to learned everything what youve shared to us ,and as a begginer,im still looking and learning more about basic photography, and you realy help me a lot.god bless you and your family as well....keep it up.go,go,go!!!
I've had your DVD for a few days now and I've been watching it every day!
Great explanations and they're never boring.
I was wondering if you could explain or give more detail into the distance reader on a lens to figure out your depth of field for your subject to be in focus.
Love your videos dude! Do you have any advice for focusing on big group shots for like weddings. Is there a specific f/stop or focal length I should try and stay around. Some of the ones I have done so far aren't coming out so sharp so I need some help bro thanks!
I have been taking picture with my SLR for more than 2 years. This video gave me the proof that i'm very weak in focusing. Today i have learned much more than what i acquired the last 2 years. THANK YOU professor
I dont really get it...focus on the what you want focused even if its not in the middle...then re frame it...would that mean you have to focus again????
if your using af, aim at the subject, once the camera is focused keep the shutter button down to the midstop (if your using one-shot af) then reframe, If you didnt take your finger off, your camera should have kept the same focus point even though its no longer directly pointed at the subject that way if your using say a low fstop you can have the subject off to the side of the actual frame but still within your depth of field
but im now VERY confused about somethin here,.....when it comes to the effect that the "focus" has, when adjusted.....seems to be the exact same effect of "depth of field",...when u adjust the Aperature (i think it is?).....
So im confused...becuz if thats the case, then why not just adjust the Aperature....and why adjust the Focus inSTEAD of the aperature???..(using the Gate picture as an example, and imagining u want a pic of a person behind it)?
i read your comment a few times and i finaly understand. the reason why if you focus and your background is blured WITHOUT you changing your aperrature is because your aperature mode has been set . next time try changing the aperature.
I just finished watching all 7 of your tutorials--they're super because you simplify. It took me months to learn what you just taught me in an hour...you're awesome!
When did you decide you were going to purse professional photography? or do you just do photography to make extra income? im only 16 so i just like to take pictures for fun, but i wouldnt mind traveling around the globe taking photos for a magzine =)
Thanks for the positive vibes. Good to hear you LOVE the DVD. I have to shorten the chapters for them to fit on Youtube but they still get the point accross :o)
As I've seen, a lot of people thank you for your tutorials. So you probably read this a lot but I just wanted to tell you myself how thankful I am for your advise and explanation on different parts of photography ! So, thanks a lot my friend ! At this point I want to become as enthusiastic in photography as you seem to be, it is just amazing to notice how you really have a passion for photography !
thank you so much, i love your tutorials. this is exactly what i was looking for. i'll try using the center point and see how that works for me. keep it up!
Autofocus is necessary when chasing toddlers and small children around outdoors. ;)

which is the best starting camera?
and what lens do i need to buy along with that?
PS: ur video r great and thanks alot
sidzac 2 years ago
There is no " Best" camera for everyone but I woold suggest this.
1• Make sure you get an SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera
2• Get the best you can afford and buy new if you can.
3• Get a solid system you can build on as you grow. So if you get a new camera your lenses and flash still work with it.
4• Go with Canon Digital Rebel camera that will fit your budget. :o)
Hope this helps,
Robert
