  • Those dance moves.I MUST LEARN THEM. >:I

  • I trusted my penis which is touching her shell : d ekhm

  • Musical perfection ... one of the best songs by any artist of any time ! ... Wayne

  • @wmw2525 AGREED

  • Luc, I am your father!

  • God I love his hair here.

  • May I point out that lodger was two years after....

  • This is definitely Peter Gabriel at his absolute peak!!!

  • Great song. It has a twinge of Bruce Springstenn influence. Peter was into The Boss at the time..

  • I don't understand it, but he is unbelievably attractive.

  • modern love is my favorite video.

  • Love this song, sadly you got the DTS/Dolby version off PLAY - Those were remastered and upmixed to 5.1 - In the remastering process some audio samples were switched to raise overall quality. But it backfired, and this version sounds downtoned and a bit off compared to the brilliant original.

This is most likely the reason it was left in Extra Material, too bad a remix for the main content, too bad a master for the main content.

Happily the stereo master is still there hidden on the DVD :)

  • His hair looks good here. Really suits him. I never heard this song till I stumbled upon this video and I have to be honest, I'm reallly partial to this era of Peter. When he still made art-rock that was reminiscent of Genesis. I admit he had to move on to explore other areas but this was his peak.

  • I still think he's the sexiest man on the planet. He looks even better these days with the bald head. Peter, any time you say the word, I will run away with you forever.

  • his lips-they're like kissing a sausage

  • My favorite song off Peter Gabriel's first album!

  • Good stuff. Wish he would tour the midwest. Thanks for the video.

  • This kicks butt on on so many of the cruddy , cheesy "the blues of love" videos of the eighties. It has humor, fun and future all in one. Gabriel, like Brian Ferry, was ALWAYS at least 10 years ahead of his time!! Great tune that holds up better today than when I bought the album in high school THE DAY it came out (Yes I just dated myself .. so be it.)

  • If you think the video is "FUNNY" then you dont get the point, and it cant be explained to you, and that's sad.

  • "hilarious music video from Peter Gabriel's 1977 song Modern Love. "

YES, it is funny! Man, oh man, 33 years ago!!

  • Awesome! Sounds so "Rollings Stones" don't you think?

  • @Artas1984 peter kicks the stones ass ANYDAY!

  • He's such a fine dancer...

  • cool opening

  • All you can give is a spin in your washing machine. Classic Gabriel but the third album with the melting face was when he really hit his stride.

  • che merda!pare renato zero........

dovremmo allertare tutti coloro che rivendicavano la sua presenza a tutti i concerti dei genesis post 1975,ignari.........

  • the best show you'll ever see live!

  • I like wet noodles especially when they're as talented as PG is! :)

  • When i first caught this video by chance, I wasn't sure who this was (the TV was on mute), but as soon as I saw him dancing like a wet noodle, I knew it was Peter.

He moves just like in his old Genesis days.

  • hahaha. Very true :P

  • he's genius, the best <3

  • i love him and his music .. he's perfect.. a true artist!!.. not only musician ... he inspires me...lalalala.... :)

  • ahh, PG. so talented. with quirky haircuts, outfits and lyrics to boot. bottom line: amazing singer, songwriter, musician, male specimen... *bites lip

was, is, and will always be super SEXY

  • A passionate human.

So are you liquidlena, you got it right.

  • liquidlena.

    battle of epping forest!

    :)

  • his normal hair phase.

  • I saw PG perform at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby right after he released this album - this song, and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, brought the house down. He was the most energetic performer I'd ever seen - just great!

  • Patrick Bateman prefers Phil Collins. That's one of the few things that Pat and I disagree on.

  • I forgot about this song from the 1st LP. I was 13 when I head this song on the old Rock and Rythm KNAC in my hometown of Long Beach,California..it was goodbye Foreigner ,hello Prog rock!!!

  • he's a genius. I love this song.

  • Some understand the words , some only see the pics and belief they feel something so genuine...

    Gabriel would never mind.

He is already 6 wars ahead!

    Enjoy anyway.

  • she gave me da wink and den showed me da fweezer !!!!!!!!! Bruce Detorres modern love can be a strain

  • Kitty, you just made my day! ;-)

  • That's the Pete I know and love.

  • I love this!!

  • Peter G is my favourite. This is also one of my fav's from him. He is incredibly talented and different from most other (if not all) artist. Please keep giving us original and great music!!!

  • he's a genius, unique musician

  • Goodness, he was certainly flexible, wasn't he? ;)

  • That's what yoga does for you, I guess?

Maybe I should take heed? :)

  • His wife was a lucky lady that's for sure *phew*

    ;D

  • Thanks for posting this video. Although I've listened to this song many times, this is the first time that I see the video. It's weird but funny.

  • This deserved to be on Sixteen Golden Greats. Far better than that insipid version of Here Comes The Flood...

  • Or they could have just made it 17 Golden Greats...that way everyone is happy

    :-D

  • I always wondered why he didn't make it "20 Golden Greats". That would have made room for songs like "Mother of Violence" or "On the Air," which are as good as anything else he's done...

  • Ah but the live version of "On The Air" off the double album is far more full of life then the original studio version. I'll concur with the sadly excluded Mother of Violence.

  • She gave me the wink and showed me the freezer!!!Bruce Detorres

    Bruce Detorres

  • Best songwriter/performer in the history of rock.

  • A-freakin-Men!

  • Thank you so much for having put this cool one up!!! By the way: isn't it quite cold where you live?

  • Peter Gabriel is the best thing that happened to music I miss his brilliance and creativity unlike the shower of shit that is in the charts today 31 years later still brilliant, artistes of today take note of this brilliant songwriting genius.

  • Music would be way more interesting if there were more people like him

  • Indeed. Genesis sold more records when PG left but would you rather listen to Peter or Phil? This album was great and not just because of PG but he also had Robert Fripp of King Crimson helping out with the production.

The third album with the melting face was and still is my favorite.

  • Crazy Pete makes his triumphant return...even if it is for only three and a half minutes. I miss Crazy Pete and I'm glad I'm not the only one. Delicious.

  • one word for it... the song, the dancing, the outfit, the hair:

    GLORIOUS.

I think one of my favorite parts is the screech at the end: "AAAGH THE PAIN!"

  • LOL. Peter simply is the best thing that ever happened to planet earth!!!

  • I especially love the small part where he shouts "doo doo doo doo doo do daaa..." :D so funny

  • gorgeous MILF s

  • I miss weird Peter, sigh

  • good haircut ;)

  • this is totally radical and dreamlike and thus totaly uncommercial to the average slob/douchebag

  • @wiggertronix i'm the average slob & I still love P.G.

  • Wow, his hairstyle was so different then, lol. I actually wish I could do my hair like that, but I'm just not sure that'd work.

  • romance is out of fashion even 30 years ago sad

  • check out his moves and poses just like modern day gangsta rappers

  • U can really hear that the production is made by Bob Ezrin... there's some similar approach than with Alice Cooper 75' "Welcome to my Nightmare" and Kiss 76'only classic lp "Destroyer"

Bob Ezrin can turn something good to a classic...

i try to imagine the reaction of young people who look at mtv every day (as zombies)...when they look at this video...they surely has the mouth open...Hats down to Gabriel!

  • The best, one of my all time Favo'

  • I have been playing this song for 30 years. I can't believe it wasn't included on Shaking the Tree

  • :^D

    This video makes me SMILE

Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm laughing AT or WITH Peter, but... they don't make music like they used to anymore!!!

  • Rollerball meets The Stepford Wives: great, great 70's!

  • This such a quirky PG vid, you can't help but love it! Long live art rock!

  • And all I can get is a spin in your washing machine. My favorite track off of Peter Gabriel's debut. Hard to believe it's been 30 years since the original release.

  • I have been playing this song for 30 years. I can't believe it wasn't included on Shaking the Tree

  • Does this video kinda remind anyone else of "Clockwork Orange"? Or just me?

  • Actually, he looks as though he is preparing to play football. A bit of Burgess/Kubrick present in this video but for the most part, it's just PG in his macabre phase.

Speaking of Clockwork Orange, Mr. Alexander's bodyguard was played by Dave Prowse, the bodybuilder who would originally wear Darth Vader's costume. Also, Basil the snake was only in the film.

  • This has much heavier bass than on the album.

Also, notice at about 0:55 where he mouths 'F*** off' to the camera?

  • I suppose it could be f-off, not sure what he's "saying" there... lol - whatever it is, he seems to "say" it twice.

the mix is bad because it was taken from the PLAY DVD using bad ripping software that couldn't figure out how to handle the 5.1 mix or find the stereo mix.

  • oh i love his hair like that. a pity that he only wore it like that when he was 18 ..and here of corse. this video is the worst i've ever seen in my life, man :D how more ridiculous can someone look! i love you peter, you were a total mad hatter! <3

  • This song is a reall grower.

"I trust that Venus was untouched in her shell. But the pearls...the pearls in her oyster...was tacky as hell!"

    I love that bit.

  • The line I like is:

"So I worship Diana by the light of the moon

When I pull out my pipe she screams out of tune"

  • ...I trusted my Venus was untouched in her shell... but the pearls in her oysters were tacky as hell...

  • i thought it was "bike". haha i'm so naive.

  • "I fly off to Rome to my prima bella

She leaves me in the rain with a telescopic umbrella"

  • Modern Love not to be confused with Modern Love by David Bowie. Slow Burn off PG1 not to be confused with Slow Burn by David Bowie. Though this track does sound like a lost track off David Bowie's Lodger album.

The video mix for 'I Don't Remember' sound different to the album version as well.

Does anyone know why this was in the extras section on the DVD?

  • "I Don't Remember" from the video is actually a different version of the song. It's the live version from the Plays Live album, but heavily remastered.

No clue why this was in the extras section. Maybe just because it's so utterly ridiculous? ;)

  • Gosh he was a sexy thing back then! Great song, great video. I have it on the dvd but I'm glad to see it here....

  • Wow, I had really crappy copy of this on a vhs someone made for me back in the 80's, it was unwatchable! This is the first time I can really see it. I love his shaggy hair here, before the head shavings and short cuts.

  • It's on the PLAY: The Videos DVD. Great DVD, well worth getting if you're a PG fan. I prefer the shorter hair, but hey, any Peter is good Peter, right? ;o) I love when he takes the mask off and makes no effort whatsoever to fix his hair. LOL!!

  • I own PLAY, too......only one gripe about it.......would have preferred the other version of "Don't Give Up"......the one that's included is just too BORING to me, although Kate is a hottie.....wish I was the one hugging her! (chuckle)

  • okay... you can hug Kate and I'll hug Peter. deal? :-D

  • Deal! I'll be her "sledgehammer" anytime.......(wink, wink).

  • Oh why don't you "Lead a Normal Life". Number 3 with the melting face is my favorite PG album.

  • Yeah, me to....And a WHHHHHHOLE lot more!!

  • This is the very first film available of Peter Gabriel after he left Genesis after the LAMB tour in late 1975.

If anyone knows of any film of him before this "Modern Love" video, let me know.

  • lol.... I've never seen this vid.... it rocks!

  • I never seen peters hair this way. cool video, but kinda weird.

  • the mix is probably not quite right... my ripping software tends to get confused with the 5.1 mixes on the DVD. Sorry about that.

  • Thats okay. I actually own the dvd but never checked out the 5.1 mix. I think it's odd that on the regular mix on the dvd you don't hear Tony Levin at the beggening going "One, A Two mmmnmmm." but you do on the 5.1 mix. They did alot of strange things on that dvd I wish they didn't. I wish they left "Games Without Frontiers" the way it was.

  • Still, this song brings back memories. Thanx Kitty

  • The mix of the song sounds very different from the way it sounds on the album.

  • Very funny ! thanks for posting this.
