it's a dinosaur birchir not a dragon fish. the dragon fish is also know as the violet goby and dinosaur eel. they look some what alike but the dragon fish gets much larger than this fish, the dragon fish or violet goby gets up to 20 inches plus providing you put them in a large enough aquarium
i have one of that and with a size of 7 to 8 inch!!! i feed it with shrimp and sometimes chicken breast but just a small part of it!!! worms also rocks!!! i think they are blind and only depends on sense of smell!!! i bought it for only 10dollar in peso!!!
@dirtycrase They most certainly are not blind. I know mine for a fact as extremely sharp vision, and if i wiggle my pinky on one side of the tank, it will come over and investigate it. He also like to swim to the corner of my desk and look at me when he wants to be fed.
depends on how big and how established you african cichlid tank is, if you have small fish he'll eat them...but you have to take into consideration that dragonfish cant see worth a damn...if its a true dragon fish..you can tell by the pinhead sized eyeballs
Did you ask the girl with the broom to get you some snails from the cold water tank? The ones at the very bottom? Because my man Deuce Bigelow would have!
Not so much that little guy is a Polypterus senegalus senegalus,or Senegal Bichir, I have one sitting in my tank right now. Its not an eel just an ancient species of fish.
I'd not seen any previously (nor since actually!) so I just went by the texta description written there, on the tank. 4 Ringgets isn't bad, that's about AU$2. Oh - and I've updated the Tags...
Those are actually Albino Dinosaur Eels not Dragon fish. Though similar they are way cuter then actual Dragon fish and are strangely not related to eels at all ^.^ I've seen the typical brown variety available at Wal-Mart but never an albino one they're neat little fish :3
No there actually senegal bichirs. if ya gonna tell ppl names atleast know the right ones not just some other version of LFS names that are just made up by whoever has the texta that day.
Ok well sorry I didn't know the proper name. At any rate if one would ever see these at a store they would probably be labeled under Dinosaur Eel not Bichirs. And honestly you could've corrected me a hell of allot kinder instead of biting my head off and looking like a total asshole.
I've seen these sell as "Dinosaur Fish" in my local Walmart lately. Definitely interesting fish being they are supposed to be in some prehistoric vein of bichir.
They are not Dragon Fish -.- They are species of Polypterus Bichir

Haha Zane you retard, its a senegal bichir... a "spike eel?" wtf is that... read up before you start running your mouth with useless information.
dylangeremia 3 years ago
That's a Polypterus Bichir, looks like a Palmas or maybe just an Albino, I'm not sure.
They are not Eels.
They are called dinosaurs simply because they've barely evolved at all in the past few million years.
They are actually pretty smart and notice a lot of things outside of their tank. Their sense of smell is incredible.

The only stores that call them dinosaur eels are places you shouldn't buy fish from anyway, like Wal-Mart or Petco.
jeffthefishdotcom 4 years ago
Depends on what your looking for, if your like me who looks for the fish with odditys its the perfect place to shop.
