The pop giant of the keyboard, along with Nicky Hopkins, blessed with heart and soul with he poured into his music and enriched us all. I will always love Billy Preston.
Billy was human and like ALL of us with problems and issues. I watched the TV One show "Unsung". The things he was challenged with were not his fault but it was his fight. By all accounts the world lost not only a great artist but a wonderful human being that loved God and people of all walks of life.
All I know is that Billy had great talent, compassion, and energy and was always ready to help a cause or a friend. He was at his best in "Bangladesh" and "Concert for George". He will be mourned but not forgotten. OAKIEOAK
watched the show and remember the great songs he sang...then came the part about him liking it up the azz...yuck....changed the channel. fuk outta here u filthy pig.
Listen to him talk about the joy and love in the music, and remember that...he gave JOY and we LOVE his music...God gave him this talent to share with us. Show the love and not the judgement, brothers and sisters. RIP Billy P!
he was gay, after all these years I just found that out on unsung the other night. doesn't change anything he was still a great talent R.I.P. Mr. Preston
@Jimi2063 I was responding to what gunnyhiway said. I didn't hear anything about what he said about Billy getting in trouble with a girl. It was a boy. I think the person got their facts wrong. I love Billy's songs and his playing and voice and all that. I don't really even think of that when I think of Billy. I think of the music. Billy was great.
I watched his special on Unsung and I also remember his hits as well as his role on the T.V. sitcom "Good News" as the church's organist. He was a very diligent and talented brother and alot of muscians aspire to be just like him. My heart truly goes out to his family but it is also so glad he is no longer having to deal with the heartache and pain he endured. What a magnificent person he was but what a mighty legend he still is to this very day.
he is one of the greatest organist/pianist this side of heaven and i am glad that he laid the foundation for younger generations of musicians like myself.
He doesn't look like himself here. It is obvious that either his illness had really taken a toll on him and/or that is the result of years of drug and alcohol abuse. He really looked out of it. I really didn't realize that Billy had gotten like this in his later life and it saddens me because I have always admired Billy Preston. I didn't keep up with his later years. I was so used to seeing him so vibrant and always smiling. He was a terrific performer and like soo many others, is gone too soon.
He was the very first musical guest in the history of Saturday Night Live. He did "Nothing from Nothing" and "Fancy Lady" and he sounded awesome, no surprise there. R.I.P.
I have so much gratitude for this posting; You Tube lets us dig back and be reminded of really great music and artistry, without the incessant noise of the - - - degeneration...Thank you!
Billy Preston was a fantastic performer in his own right! Most of the time playing the background man and backing for lengends such as the Beatles. But when this man came out to play there was no mistakeing he was there, and the place would set alight. R.I.P Billy ......
Sometimes the brightest flames burn up, or are snuffed out, all too soon.... Then again, we can still be blessed by Billy's life/work. And, perhaps, he's not "just gone" but "over there" where a fatal disease is no more than a distant memory....
See I think musicians like Billy and others needed to have 'me' on tour with them making sure they ate right and took care of themselves. They get so caught up in their music, they neglect their health. Shoot if I had been around, these legends would still be with us! 59 and so great of a man is just waay too soon for him to be taken from us especially from complications from HBP, the silent killer. They would have hated to see me coming because I would have MADE them be healthy! like Mommy
Billy was so close to God - a gentle beautiful man of deep humility and great talent. Judge a man by the company he keeps - look at how many greats wanted him to work with them, and that is a reflection of his greatness as a musician and as a man. RIP Billy - thanks for giving us all so much joy!
59 is not that young at this time and this lifestyle, thats life. the good thing is that he lives in his music. so keep him alive by playin' his emotional music and join his sparkling mood :)

The 5th devil. His last album a tribute to the Beatles? the same Beatles that were students and followers of the teaching and beliefs of the satanic lucifierian occultist Alister Crowley. The other last thing he did before he passed? was lend his musical talents to the Satanic rock group Red Hot Chile Peppers, also followers of Crowley. for a song titled WARLOCK?
@Charles1Herrington2 - Hey Charles, guess what... I am a Christian and apparently YOU ARE NOT! You are NOT the judge! Perhaps you need to read the bible without your rose-colored glasses on. Don't come on here putting down people for what you THINK they believed in religion-wise! It is not your place to be putting down a dead man that was an AWESOME musician and should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame by his OWN merits!
@Charles1Herrington2 judge not lest ye be judged also. Jesus spoke of Love, The Beatles did too, nothing wrong with The Beatles if you ask me! I'm a Christian, just not wrapped up in legalism
Most important, though he died, he will live forever with God. He believed very much in God. The song "That's the way God planned it" was one of his ways of praising God! He was most definately SAVED!

The world has lost a great artist and superb entertainer. Fortunately his musical legacy is shared here and lives on. This man really 'lived' his music.
Okay I know quite a bit about hypertension, being a sufferer myself from an early age. It seems a bit odd to me that he died of malignant hypertension. The only thing I can imagine would cause that to occur is many years of uncontrolled sustained high blood pressure slowly weakening the capilaries in the kidneys resulting in kidney failure. Perhaps it is quite plausible but it is a darn shame because that certainly could have been avoided with medical science we had available for many years.
The pop giant of the keyboard, along with Nicky Hopkins, blessed with heart and soul with he poured into his music and enriched us all. I will always love Billy Preston.

Man, what a great guy...
The best way to honor the memory of such a legendary artist is to just keep listening...

Hey Artisan News Service
This was an absolutely excellent report, which I so needed because I never was able to see the news when he actually died.
Well done.

My answer to orschnu and others:
Why some of these good Musicans had to go so early!?!?? ... King Curtis, Billy Preston, Curtis Mayfield, Wilson Pickett, Janis Joplin ...
It is realy true, they live in our hearts and in the musicworld forever!!

I thought the same thing. He and Nicky Hopkins have both been called "the sixth rolling stone".
I give the title to Billy.

It is such a shame that good folk go first and bastards seem to have all the luck.
