  • The pop giant of the keyboard, along with Nicky Hopkins, blessed with heart and soul with he poured into his music and enriched us all. I will always love Billy Preston.

  • how could you sit here and hate on a soul legend. shits sad.

  • Billy was human and like ALL of us with problems and issues. I watched the TV One show "Unsung". The things he was challenged with were not his fault but it was his fight. By all accounts the world lost not only a great artist but a wonderful human being that loved God and people of all walks of life.

  • All I know is that Billy had great talent, compassion, and energy and was always ready to help a cause or a friend. He was at his best in "Bangladesh" and "Concert for George". He will be mourned but not forgotten. OAKIEOAK

  • watched the show and remember the great songs he sang...then came the part about him liking it up the azz...yuck....changed the channel. fuk outta here u filthy pig.

  • Listen to him talk about the joy and love in the music, and remember that...he gave JOY and we LOVE his music...God gave him this talent to share with us. Show the love and not the judgement, brothers and sisters. RIP Billy P!

  • I partied with Billy at club Bojangles in 1974. In fact his entourage took me back to Oaktown. Billy was a kind spirit and he is misses.

  • he was gay, after all these years I just found that out on unsung the other night. doesn't change anything he was still a great talent R.I.P. Mr. Preston

  • @BoiToy08 He had to have been bisexual, then; He got in trouble a while back for making a 16 year old chick pregnant.

  • @gunnyhyway I only remember him raping a 16 year old Mexican boy in 1991.

  • @tubiebrother You, therefore, are a pig.

  • @Jimi2063 I was responding to what gunnyhiway said. I didn't hear anything about what he said about Billy getting in trouble with a girl. It was a boy. I think the person got their facts wrong. I love Billy's songs and his playing and voice and all that. I don't really even think of that when I think of Billy. I think of the music. Billy was great.

  • I watched his special on Unsung and I also remember his hits as well as his role on the T.V. sitcom "Good News" as the church's organist. He was a very diligent and talented brother and alot of muscians aspire to be just like him. My heart truly goes out to his family but it is also so glad he is no longer having to deal with the heartache and pain he endured. What a magnificent person he was but what a mighty legend he still is to this very day.

  • @tayereed And it waz awezome!!!!!!!!!! I didn't know how talented he really waz.......

  • i balled my fuckin eyes out watchin this :"(

  • he is one of the greatest organist/pianist this side of heaven and i am glad that he laid the foundation for younger generations of musicians like myself.

  • he's greatly missed

  • RIP MY BOTHER

  • rest in peace Mr. Preston

  • Remember those nice electric piano licks in the Beatles later songs? That was Billy Preston.

Requiescat in pace, brother Billy. Now you are with God

  • This man was filled with joy, and it showed when he was on stage. RIP Billy.

  • Isn't it in bad taste to have an advertisement just before the announcement of the death of a man?

  • @Tony63909 exactly what i was thinking.

  • I did not know..... such a great lost..

  • Legend.

  • 59? damn...

  • Danke!

  • The 5th Beatle!

  • oh, snap - - i lived right next to that hospital.

    Well, R.I.P. Billy.

  • He played many a songs with The Rolling Stones !

  • Amazing soulful talent and man. God Bless you B. Preston. Thank you for all of the amazing music

  • I know you are playing up in heaven with "Brother Ray" and the rest of the Celestial Band.

  • I love Billy Preston

  • R.I.P. Billy Preston

  • WOW I didn't know about his history i just knew "Nothing from nothing." R.I.P

  • Rip billy preston

  • WOW!!! I LOVE HIM AND I'M JUST FINDING OUT HE DIED. GREAT TALENT LOSS. ONE OF MY FAVORITES...R.I.P....

  • He doesn't look like himself here. It is obvious that either his illness had really taken a toll on him and/or that is the result of years of drug and alcohol abuse. He really looked out of it. I really didn't realize that Billy had gotten like this in his later life and it saddens me because I have always admired Billy Preston. I didn't keep up with his later years. I was so used to seeing him so vibrant and always smiling. He was a terrific performer and like soo many others, is gone too soon.

  • He was the very first musical guest in the history of Saturday Night Live. He did "Nothing from Nothing" and "Fancy Lady" and he sounded awesome, no surprise there. R.I.P.

  • Quinto Beatle. Isso diz tudo.

  • So sorry never heard of this before . R.I.P Billy . You really and truly were the 5th Beatle . Love and peace . So sad

  • isnt it weird that Billy Preston died at 06-06-06? Thats EXTREMELY CRAZY!

  • great artist, heard him when he performed with Michael McDonald.

  • thank you Billy Preston for the legacy

  • 59 years of talent

  • RIP

    William Everett Preston

  • I have so much gratitude for this posting; You Tube lets us dig back and be reminded of really great music and artistry, without the incessant noise of the - - - degeneration...Thank you!

  • what a shame thinking that the best musicians are getting older... However, it worst to know that today's music it's horrible

  • Billy Preston was a fantastic performer in his own right! Most of the time playing the background man and backing for lengends such as the Beatles. But when this man came out to play there was no mistakeing he was there, and the place would set alight. R.I.P Billy ......

  • Thanks for postin'...I learned something!

  • I was so moved to find this video, and couldn't he really dance!

    Ron P.

  • god bless him for giving us beautiful music. RIP Billy

  • wow i remember watching him on tv back in the seventys billy preston RIP your music will live on forever

  • RIP Billy, Another legend gone :(

  • Sometimes the brightest flames burn up, or are snuffed out, all too soon.... Then again, we can still be blessed by Billy's life/work. And, perhaps, he's not "just gone" but "over there" where a fatal disease is no more than a distant memory....

    Here's hoping!

  • RIP, A Legend.

  • Long Live the Legend. The GaybLur

  • Billy Preston, a legend, RIP

  • Billy Preston's music was a huge part of my childhood. The "It's My Pleasure" album was one of my family's themes.

  • Insripes me.

    Thank you

  • Was he recognized in the rock n roll hall of fame? I sure hope so

  • See I think musicians like Billy and others needed to have 'me' on tour with them making sure they ate right and took care of themselves. They get so caught up in their music, they neglect their health. Shoot if I had been around, these legends would still be with us! 59 and so great of a man is just waay too soon for him to be taken from us especially from complications from HBP, the silent killer. They would have hated to see me coming because I would have MADE them be healthy! like Mommy

  • lamentable la murte de billy Preston el 5to Beatle. no sabia de su deceso. cuando, donde y d que murio?

  • Billy was so close to God - a gentle beautiful man of deep humility and great talent. Judge a man by the company he keeps - look at how many greats wanted him to work with them, and that is a reflection of his greatness as a musician and as a man. RIP Billy - thanks for giving us all so much joy!

  • With all respects to George Martin, Billy Preston was the fifth (performing) Beatle.

Rest in peace..You had soul man..soul!

  • R.I.P Fifth Beatle :(

  • a music, and more specifically, a rock legend, who should have had a greater following and recognition.

  • The late Brother Billy Preston is one of the best soul singer and musician.

Brother Billy Preston was one of the most outstanding when he plays with his keyboard.

Brother Billy was close to the Beatles and Eric Clapton.

Brother Billy Preston a great singer and musician and may his memories live on.

  • we were richer for your presence, R.I.P. The one and only Billy Preston.5th beatle among many titles. x

  • Every time I watch him, i smile. Thanks Billy!

  • RIP "5th Beatle"

  • What a brilliant performer and phenomenal individual! RIP Billy!

  • RIP i loved him with the beatles

  • R.I.P. Billy Preston

  • I knew he had passed but seeing this clip, man o man, what memories.Legend indeed.Growing up in late 60's&70's his work with the numerous megabands&especially his solo stuff was the Soundtrack of my youth.A huge part for sure.He as with so many other of the truly talented and good PEOPLE who've left us much too early will live on through our thoughts and their music. With much love ,Billy R.I.P. Time ta punch up "SPACE TRUCKIN".

  • He's Amazing!

  • I'm sorry to hear this ....!

Wow, he was soooo young. He's left us with wonderful music. RIP.

  • Another musical genius has passed before us.

  • missed

  • What a great loss to the Music world.......

  • Billy, el mejor teclista de Hammond

  • What another great musician. rip bp

  • this guy was a musical legend- playing for the Beatles, writing his own music, inspiring others, spreading Christianity

  • nothing from nothing....a great musician 's gone.

  • @Charles1Herrington2 - Hey Charles, guess what... I am a Christian and apparently YOU ARE NOT! You are NOT the judge! Perhaps you need to read the bible without your rose-colored glasses on. Don't come on here putting down people for what you THINK they believed in religion-wise! It is not your place to be putting down a dead man that was an AWESOME musician and should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame by his OWN merits!

  • @Charles1Herrington2 judge not lest ye be judged also. Jesus spoke of Love, The Beatles did too, nothing wrong with The Beatles if you ask me! I'm a Christian, just not wrapped up in legalism

  • Damn,I didn't hear of passing on either, the news sux for not making us aware.

  • I'm way late, but RIP Billy. I had no idea he had passed. What great talent.

  • @enchanted817 I didn't know he died and I was just watching him play Stevie Wonder's song In the City, and he was older than here...so...

I ASSumed he was fine :(

RIP my mayn...you brought me many smiles.

  • I love his version of Blackbird

  • wtf?

it`s 2010 and only now i know that he is dead!

    r.i.p

  • I didn't know he died. Billy was special and spiritual. What a kind heart he had. Thanks for your contributions, Billy !! PEACE......

  • Gosh, I somehow missed that he passed... Much Too Soon - he was one of the all-time greats.

And dude can bust a rug! 3 cheers for Billy P.!

  • "Nothing From Nothing" not "For Nothing".

  • Most important, though he died, he will live forever with God. He believed very much in God. The song "That's the way God planned it" was one of his ways of praising God! He was most definately SAVED!

  • Beautiful person, very gifted musician.

  • check him on Nat king cole show, at an early age. out shinming uncle nat himself. Nat didnt mind At All !!

  • Thanks for "My sweet Lord" on Nov. 29th 02

  • RIP Billy! We'll miss you!

  • dejalo cantar men

  • one of the greatest Hammond B3 players ever

  • Man...didn 't know Billy had passed on. Hey, dont forget his roots in the Church. I believe he "grew up" with gospel greats, Andre Crouch, Sandra Crouch, Edwin Hawkins, and Walter Hawkins.

  • A brilliant musician and performer. Thanks for helping keep the memory of his contributions alive.

  • 59 is young

  • yeah, that's a real shame. What a sweetheart he was, let alone a great musician. thanks so much for the video. I had no idea of much of the history or his death either. so great that people like you post this kind of stuff...truly a new world is emerging fast.

  • Gosh I had no idea about Billy Preston. I just always loved the "nothing from nothing"...only the good die young. What a great talent!

  • the joy and talent God given! What a thrill and gift to us...

  • I saw him at The Shrine auditorium back in 75, I think? He was a TRUE MUSICIAN!!!! God REST your soul Billy!

  • I was at the first show of the concert for Banglasdesh and Billy 's song was the highlight of the great show. he was an excellent keyboard player and a genuine good soul.

  • He was awesome.... sadly missed

  • Billy was the opening act for George Harrison's "Dark Hoarse" (sic) 1974 North American tour. Given the dreadful state of George's vocals at the time, many people thought Billy's performance was the best part of the evening.

  • "That's the way God planned it."

  • man didnt know he passed ,he will be missed...59 is way to young.

  • YOU CAN SEE BILLY DANCING WITH MICK JAGGER ON ( HEY NEGRITA ) HE TOURED WITH THE STONES -RIP. BILLY -as JAGGER SAYS WHERE BILLY -ON THE LOVE YOU LIVE LP IN 77

  • 5th Beatle???

eh i dont agree with that. more like George Matin.

  • naw man billy preston was the 5th beatle for sure. but i do understand why people would think that george martin couldve been the 5th beatle because he did contribute a lot musically. what i dont understand is people who think brian epstein was the 5th beatle! WTH?! how the hell can he be the 5th beatle when he was their MANAGER?! yall crazy

  • All the great leave us so early, Billy now Michael. May they both rest in peace

  • Sorry to hear he is Gone, A Great musician and Performer.

    T D T.

  • the 5th beatle as he was called. Thank`s for all you gave to us. God bless you Billy

  • I was lucky enough to see him tour with Clapton....thank God I was able to see him before he passed.....RIP Billy

  • Rest in peace, Billy.

  • I'm so glad I was able to experience and enjoy all the music from that era personally. Billy Preston always drove the crowds wild. What a phenomenal musician! The tunes he played with the Beatles were all great, but adding Billy Preston pushed them way over the top. Hard to imagine what they'd sound like without that funky beat. One of the Beatles studio clips shows Billy coming into the studio. I swear he changed the whole atmosphere before he even began to play.

  • No-one playes as good as Billy could!

    I miss you.

  • Dear old Billy Preston. He was a ray of sunshine and an uplifting personality as well as being a fantastic keyboard player. George Harrison called him simply "the best Hammond player in the world" and he was right.

    Beautiful guy, greatly missed.

  • God bless him.

    God bless all musicians.

  • This man was great taken some times as the 5th Beal

    Q.E.P.D.

  • He's a church boy form the holiness churches.........that's the dance you see him doing on this vidoe.........LOL

  • Anyone who writes off seventies music as lame obviously never heard Billy Preston, (among many others, Al Wilson, Dobie Gray, Jim Croce, the list goes on)

  • May he rest in peace.

  • Yes its called 'thats the way God planned it...I love it and I saw Billy Preston in concert with the rolling stones in 1973 and 74. He was amazing

  • BTW, does anyone know what song this is?

  • That's The Way God Planned It

  • Man, what a great guy...

The best way to honor the memory of such a legendary artist is to just keep listening...

  • I remember the first sucess at 80 in Brazil.

Just the way I am,before, say good bye!

    Preston,,good bye!!

    Preston Forever!

  • Hey Artisan News Service

This was an absolutely excellent report, which I so needed because I never was able to see the news when he actually died.

    Well done.

  • My answer to orschnu and others:

Why some of these good Musicans had to go so early!?!?? ... King Curtis, Billy Preston, Curtis Mayfield, Wilson Pickett, Janis Joplin ...

It is realy true, they live in our hearts and in the musicworld forever!!

    John (Germany)

    RIP Billy Preston

ur my fav singer of allll!!!!!!!!!!

  • RIP Mr Preston [*]

  • The world has lost a great artist and superb entertainer. Fortunately his musical legacy is shared here and lives on. This man really 'lived' his music.

  • Okay I know quite a bit about hypertension, being a sufferer myself from an early age. It seems a bit odd to me that he died of malignant hypertension. The only thing I can imagine would cause that to occur is many years of uncontrolled sustained high blood pressure slowly weakening the capilaries in the kidneys resulting in kidney failure. Perhaps it is quite plausible but it is a darn shame because that certainly could have been avoided with medical science we had available for many years.

  • HARE KRISHNA BILLY.

  • no mention of billy ever playing with the stones?miss you just the same

  • I thought the same thing. He and Nicky Hopkins have both been called "the sixth rolling stone".

I give the title to Billy.

  • we'll miss you Billy..great artist..

  • Bless you & the gang there.

  • check out "little black boys and girls" from the kids and me album

    choice

  • It is such a shame that good folk go first and bastards seem to have all the luck.

    Way to young!

  • Shocked to find out that Billy Preston died! When did it happened? Does anybody know?
