Halle Berry is actually more beautiful than she was in Miss USA.
She later competed in Miss World 1986, she was Top 7 but she could won easily because she had the same type than the winner, Giselle Laronde, but more beautiful than her.
Christy won fair and square. She was THE most beautiful in the pageant and won basically ALL competitions. Halle went onto 1st runner up spot because of her interview skills and great stage presence. I never found Halle even pretty, but elegant. She did well at Miss World, placing as finalist, and so did Christy at Miss Universe, getting to the runner-up spot.
MIss Texas was really the most beautiful and smart that year 1986, I can say Christy Fishtner is the most beautiful MIss USA ever! followed by Miss USA 1989 also from Texas.
Vanessa Williams was the first black woman to be crowned Miss America--not Miss USA--in 1984. Carol Gist was the first black woman to be crowned Miss USA in 1990. The Miss America pageant is a scholarship contest; Miss USA is a pageant to choose the USA's representative in the Miss Universe pagaent.
@latinoguy The funny thing now is that most of those judges who were /are actors would give anything to have accomplished half of what Halle has in the business.
Halle looked seriously out of place at that Miss USA pageant with her beauty and killer figure. Most women in Miss USA pageants look like horses and mules in the face and have the intelligence of a brick wall. If Halle had won it would have been freaky, since we have very seldom had a beautiful Miss USA.
In this video, the asisting in the crowning: the reigning Miss Teen USA, Kelly Hu (Hawaii) and the reigning Miss Universe Deborah Carthy-Deu (Puerto Rico).
I think this is amazing how this pageant gave Halle an award a few years ago, considering she did not win the tiltle, Halle did not win cause GOD had something better in store for her: an Emmy, Sag, Golden globe, and the big one: the OSCAR. How many Miss USA's have one any of these awards?
Halle Berry is beautiful and talented. Beauty pageants don't always predict future success. But I'm glad that Christy Fitchner won because she and I are both grads of Southern Methodist University. (From different decades)
OMG! I don't knew that Halle Berry have participated in this pageant! amazing, but Christy deserved the tittle, who cares if Halle did not win, right she's better than a beuty queen
@luvs2teach00 Halle Berry became the VERY FIRST African-America to win an Oscar, ACTUALLY!!!!! She embodied the asnwer to her final question in this pageant!! The ironies of life =)
@WieselVindiesel should HAVE won, not should OF won.. and you posted the same comment on every video from this year, all the same message and typo. wow.
The previous year's winner who comes out one last time, Laura Martinez-Harring, is Laura Elena Harring, who costarred with Naomi Watts in Mulholland Drive! Wow!
I think it's ironic that Halle Berry continues to deny having had plastic surgery. Her nose is obviously larger here than it is now. She was beautiful before her nose job, but I wish these women would OWN up to their cosmetic surgery.
This so funny to watch because i saw an old interview done in 1993 of halle recently and arsenio asked her why she smiled and she said she thought she won! she'd heard miss ohio and automatically thought it was her. She also said she was pissed she didn't win and the crown should of gone to her, and then she said something about how the winner had like 5 kids and was living in some small town so she got the better deal! lol halle is my fav actress
"and then she said something about how the winner had like 5 kids and was living in some small town so she got the better deal! "
If that's true, then it's pretty low-class of Halle to say that. She sounds like a sore loser. And yes, she came out with a Hollywood career and an Oscar, but it doesn't mean she got the better deal. Halle is a good actress but she has an ugly attitude.
I don't think that she was being rude or sore. She said that she thought that she had a really good chance at winning ad of course she was disappointed. Who wouldn't be getting that close?!
We are missing the part where Bob Barker says, "Now to assist us are the reigning Miss Teen USA Allison Brown and the reigning Miss Universe Deborah Carthy-Deu from Puerto Rico....."
Halle Berry, a first runner-up becomes a Hollywood star just like Vanessa Williams, a disgraced ex-Miss America becoming a decorated entertainer in music, film and on Broadway.
Take a lesson! It's not about losing but the strength & resilience learned to rebound from a loss.
@VioletKrystal not even that, but Halle answered the final question SOOOOOOOOO much better!! Texas had the 2nd worse answer. UGH. I am SURE Halle did not win because she was African-America, I am SURE!! Ppl are PATHETIC sometimes geez

@VioletKrystal she is not 42, she is right now 48 years old, she was born in 1963., bur of course is beautiful and she really should be MIss Universe 1985 because the winner that year from Pto Rico was so ugly !
Congrats to both ladies. But remember fame does not always buy happiness. There are many contestants who have not gained international fame, but are happy content, have loving children and husband, are living life to the fullest.
Right at the part where Bob thanks all the ladies "for taking part in tonight's pageant," and you'll see a funny reaction by one of the contestants standing to the right (our left) of the wicker "throne"- she stretches her hands reluctantly in a big gesture of "Whatever!" Then she leans in with a kind of bitchy posture and says something to another contestant who seems to ignore her. Methinks she's not amused.
Ohio's Halley and Texas' Christy both did well, but Christy certainly deserved that win. Christy also represented the US very well in the Miss Universe Pageant and almost bagged the prize in that tight competition. Halle also did well in the Miss World Pageant and was a semifinalist...
Yes, Christy represented the US very well in the Miss Universe Pageant of 1986. She was the first runner up. Miss Universe that year was Barbara Palacios from Venezuela
But that is not a fair assessment of what happened on the night that actually counts! If you are talking about a lifetime achievement award for any beauty delegate, Halle Berry would be one to beat, as the Miss USA organization did already back in 1997 honouring her with a special achievement award, and that was before she did INTRODUCING DOROTHY DANDRIGE and MONSTER'S BALL!
Laura is the THIRD Miss USA born outside the USA. The second was Miss USA 1966, Maria Remenyi of California. She was born in Hungary and raised in Denmark, or vice versa, I'm not sure.
Halle Berry is actually more beautiful than she was in Miss USA.

The judges were afraid to pick the first Black (rascist) to win in 1986 so they put her in ist runner-up.
It wasn"t until four years later,in 1990 when the first Blacvk won Miss USA
