  • I' never seen nothing like that dance man, I need me some more o' that!!

  • pianos on some higher plane shit

  • This is better than to listen to lady gaga

  • Waauw. What a performance. I got my Mojo working!

And bye the Way, does anybody knows what Al en Leon are doing there?!! Should be them, isn't it?! Muddy can shake em quiet smoothly as well. Yaauwsa!

  • fed up of people watching old videos and despairing about modern music, bloody look for the music, you may not see it often in the charts so make an effort to find new bands

  • @boywithblues you're a huge beauty. very well put

  • Love the piano sound! so badass muddy waters music!

  • 1:51 Is that Al and Leon?

  • Did you see those Dance Steps...Elvis Stole those same moves and made millions

  • James Cotton on harp, Pat Hare- guitar, Otis Spann- piano, Andrew Stevens-bass, Francis Clay-drums. LP was on Chess, CD still in print.

  • Otis Spann on piano.

  • Actually, that microphone is off and his voice is just that badass.

  • @capitolofnebraska LOL damn right man!!!

  • This is when black music was utterly profound. Dynamic, deep and exciting. It led us all to a glimpse of the eternal, while affirming our humanity. It made life worth living.

Sadly, can't say the same for hip hop and r&b today....

  • This was the real Rock and Roll

  • saw blues tribute to Muddy Waters, Beacon Theater, NYC '79, was 16. went from 11P- 4 Am. was Muddy, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, BB King, James Cotton, was AWSOME! each played their own set, then all jammed together at the end.

  • Unfortunately I cannot answer the question about the microphones, but it struck me too that they seem to pick up the voices extremely well.

  • Superlative and more.

  • 9 people didn't have their mojo working

  • if those women would have let nature take is course and got up and danced the would not of had a home to return to..they were barley able to contain themselves lol..hey this was 1960..the civil rights bill had not been passed ..an while this was taking place, they were lynching black people and white supporters in Muddy's home state of Ms. and all across the south..the fact that he was playing "Blues" at Newport was a major feat..I think it was the first time "Blues" had been allowed......

  • All that you say is true...but it don't make their awkwardness any less amusing....

  • All those white folk not really sure what to do........

  • @birdstuckinchimney Those white folk gave Muddy and his band alot of love and Muddy's career took back off after this and its pretty much all white folk in every blues audience.

  • somethin in the way he pronounces and rocks down.. its the bomb (buuurrrrrrzzzz)

  • I am assuming you mean the 2 hanging at the intro: For one, the Mic's are both the same company "AKG," That I am sure about. The one on the left has a bigger handle and the head is elongated not round like the one on the right. the one on the right looks to be a Polar "AKG C451E Condenser" 1959. Popular in its day for harp players, because it was affordable. As the one on the left looks to be a older model "AKG" by design but has me stumped, I will get back to you on that. Hope that helps

    BODA

  • NIce NIce NICE NICE

  • Anyone know who the drummer was on this video? Sam Lay perhaps?

  • @mrsticks28 Francis Clay.

  • Crip walkin @ 1:53.....seriously anyone know about this...and how long this kind of dancin has been around ?

  • Heh -- and Muddy always said he couldn't dance!

(Check out that one white guy in the audience with the dark glasses -- sitting motionless. He's either shocked, overwhelmed, appalled, or some combination of the above. (Maybe a hipster jazz "purist" who didn't know what he was in for!)

  • 5:27 "Look Muddy! I've got my mojo workin too!"

  • The white lady at 2:25 "Oh posh posh, these hethen, i-- oh- oh no! I feel the groove! His mojo's working!"

  • Was anybody else laughing at the white guy at the beginning trying to imitate the delta black accent?

  • otis spann is just a monster at that pianer... listen to him bang the intro on them keys

  • @3:13 BRILLIANT

  • Comment removed

  • BRWHLBMLWRHMWBLBLBBMBMB WORKIN'!!! :DDD

  • that chick at 2:30 knows muddy got his mojo workin!@#!@#

  • Why ? Why was I born so late ?

  • Dunno what kinda mics they're using, but i can tell you those are dynamic mics, back then the condenser mics were very rare with the exception of the tubed mics....Great Classic Vid...ty for posting!

  • It still amazes me how many people back in the 60s and 70s thought that Muddy was tomming because he wasn't doing any smooth soul act.

  • The encore is simply one of the best pieces of footage of authentic raw Chicago blues. Thanks for posting!

  • How cool is this.

  • Today you can`t see music with such style like this :)

  • @Bluzer86 Oh you can, it's just not on the telly or radio. Go down to a little pub midweek anywhere in the UK and there'll be a hot blues band ripping it up (in front of 30 people). The blues has gone underground again, back from whence it came, back where it belongs, where folks can't mess with it!

  • @mutineersband Sounds like a place for me :) , but near me you can`t find places like that, sadly.

  • @mutineersband I love teh Jazz.

  • @Bluzer86 Oh it exists, but you have to search really hard, sometimes inside your own soul, then produce your own!!

  • damn Muddy's voice is so powerful he doesn't have to stand close to the mic in order for people to hear him

  • This is amazing!

  • Oh, I get it now--if you mean the mics hanging up to record, those could very well be Schoeps. I thought you meant the stage mics at first... ;-]

  • Those might be Schoeps mics, but I'm guessing a Chicago blues giant is probably using Shure mics, and those look like they might be a Shure PE series, or maybe something earlier. I'm not an expert. If you made me bet my own money though, that shape screams SHURE to me. Oh and by the way, Happy birthday Muddy. You shook me.

  • Anyone know who those two guys dancing backstage in the green plaid jackets are?

  • Pine top Perkins played at the river front in nashville a few years ago. sitting in with B B King. they carried this frail old man out and set him at the piano. from there he just rocked the house.

  • 7 people does not have their mojo working

  • Definitely Otis Spann-Piano, Definitely Pat Hare-Guitar, Definitely James Cotton-Harmonica... Not sure of bass & drums (poss. Andrew Stevenson-Bass & Francis Clay-Drums: as on the Chess album "At Newport 1960" .

  • Comment removed

  • go muddy go!!

  • He is playing with PineTop Perkins on piano, who, I am told, is 97 years old and still playing. He just released an album with someone else.

  • @melanieantaro sure that's not Otis Spann? I just automatically associate the piano opening with Otis...

  • @Glyde11209 Otis rip

  • @melanieantaro Otis Spann PTP didnt join till after the passing of Otis

  • MOJO!

  • All these musicians are as impressive as Muddy Waters

  • What gets me is how can the audience sit down when listening to it? I'm not even there and I'm bouncing off the walls. Fifty years later and he's still the coolest man on the planet.

  • Bat dung heaped on the heads of those that "Disliked' this.

  • I think his mojo was working... It worked on me, at least!

  • or its justin bieber and hes just jealous cos he dont rock at all?? nor does he have a mojo @ all - hehaahaa

  • @fstarRocka Obviously Bieber doesn't have a mojo. Mojo is sexual drive.. I doubt he has any of that...

  • or they were skydiving with their smart phones and got the wrong thumb by accident?? must be that...

  • 5:30 - 5:34 THAT'S SOME ACTIVE LISTENING! awesome music!

  • not only music, but also fashion was pretty cool at that times :)

  • Sorry hilbillyhermitt, he died in 1983 i believe.... one of the true legends of the Blues

  • As noted '90s Blues king MC Hammer (jk) would say, "Cain't touch dis!".

  • I can play this! So proud :) Shame I can't sing like this beast!

  • I was workin' at Joanna Western Mills Shade Company on Chicago's South Side in 1970 and found out that Muddy Waters was delivering Venetian Blind's right when he was asked to record for the Chess Brothers. I met up with Muddy at a Benefit for Bluesman Johnny Young and asked him if he'd ever worked at Joanna Western and "Muddy replied "Sure did" then he turned to his cronies and replied "they ne ver asked me that one before!"

  • 7 People 'aint got their mojo workin' right!

  • My goodness!! This is classic beauty

  • Is Muddy Waters alive still If he is I'll get his auto-graph when I next go to America

  • Stunning. Awesome quality too!

  • Pure inspiration right here, y'all...

  • haha, 2 dudes with some cool dancing skills outside

  • @horbergaren And they really are enjoying!

  • 7 very intimate first cousins.

  • 7 people don't have properly functioning mojos.

  • The ultimate get ya goin sing and dancing song,I was at a stop light singing away and turned to see a woman just staring at me,I didn't care was having to good a time!

  • @HyperBorealOperator Definately, outstanding performance!

  • 7 deaf people thought there was a subtitle button.

  • Hi!

We're starting up channel to help us get real music, like Muddy, back. There are still a lot of great bands out there, but the music industry doesn't give them any attention. We'll try to do that. Our plan is to gain subscribers, and once a week upload a song by a new band or artist. This way we'll keep you updated and informed about new, good music. Please subscribe, or send us a demo.

"You can't choose what music you like best, when all you know is shit"

    thank you

  • The intro guy suks, this song is the greatest blues ever!

  • I've said it before. I'll say it again. The best. End of discussion. Thanks so much for this posting.

  • fucking good!!! M. W. was always good.

  • Nothing wrong with Glen Miller but there are at least 7 brain dead tone deaf people in the world.

  • wow. nuff said. :)

  • Mr Chigago Blues

  • I guess once the white boys got a hold of Rock and Roll, the bruthas didn't want anything more to do with it. You haven't really seen them rocking since this.

  • @pucksterz12 It is the sad, sad truth, brother , that this kind of "roots" music is dying out due to popular mainstream "money drives the market" mentality. If you go across town in Texas, or anywhere in Baton Rouge or to those other parts of Mephis (not Nashville) you will find the modern reincarnation of Robert Johnson and Co. and you will revel with the brothers in the true soul of music.

  • @Jamoof You know I meant MEMPHIS. I can't be spellin' like that--I'm an English teacher.

  • @pucksterz12 uh youre fuckin dumb. blacks have tried to break the rock and heavy music market for decades but it has been purposely marketed solely to white audiences. white musicians who revered the blues are not the problem. why do you think muddy enlisted johnny winter to play with his band?

  • great stuff!

  • Fucking amazing.

  • 7 people dislike this y they must be dead inside

  • pure quality!!!

  • Good stuff. Music was way better back in the day.

  • @stinkwad13 Thats because the performers practiced music alone and also together as a band. Live gigs dont allow editing, what they play is what you hear, a skill that is completely lost amongst todays performers and reality show stars.

  • Very good....there are these young people called Kitty, Daisy and Lewis who covered this song, and their cover is very good.

  • The Blues had a baby and they named it Rock N Roll

  • Historic - enough said.

  • This is pure awesomeness.

  • wow, 7 people without souls???

  • @68lpjr *without soul

  • @68lpjr "without soul"... without batteries in their hearing-aid you mean?!

    ( = ] )

  • @68lpjr NO DOUBT...totally SOUL-LESS. This is the first time I have heard Muddy Waters....I LOVE HIM.

  • theres this vibrato in his voice thats damn enchanting. its awesome!

  • Great piece - a classic that will live on and on and will be enjoyed by future generations. Love Muddy's happy feet too.

  • The white guy at the beginning has literally never seen a naked woman.

  • Note to the kids and Justin Beiber fans, this is where it all started, no Muddy Waters, no Clapton or Stones

  • @deejayzak EXCUSE YOU ,,IT STARTED LONG BEFORE MR MORGANFIELD ETC ,THANK FUCK MANY HAVE KEPT IT ALIVE ,SO DONT DISS EM BOY,,,,YOU WOULDNT OF HEARD THIS TYPE OF MUZAC WIVOUT THEM YOU DISSING ,,,

  • WHOOT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OOOOOO YEAAAAHHHHH!!!

  • This stuff rocks!! And Muddy could really dance :D.

  • This is some good stuff, thanks!!

  • Hello, they're playin' it again.

  • THIS IS CLASSIC!!!! thanks for posting!!!

  • I named my Swampert after this guy like 6 years ago XD

But due to space size it was Mudy Waters haha

  • So many things in life are funny not least that Brit blues boom bands in the attempt to emulate the power of Muddy and others set the Marshall amp company in motion and now we're all deaf.Lol

This is power and majesty of the right type from the right place in the best way

  • i hate to say this but, Muddy mojo must not have been able to charm those 6 people!

  • this song is on mafia 2 and i seen a few second clip of this song of bob dylan no direction home this is a great song i really feel the muddy and his band real music unlike some of the crap 2day even though i consider 1 pop star to be a real musician cause shes got a psychedelic thing about her style imo the drummers awesome in this thank god for the newport folk and jazz fest they host back then

  • What great memories, thanks . . .

  • wow, james cotton when he stood up, it's like watching bb king when he stood up and played lol.

  • @willwelsh816 at least I got to see Mr Cotton one time...1969 with his band...BB was there too..that's long ago and very lucky to at least seen it once

  • If this ain't classic down home Chicago Blues, nothing is. Muddy at Newport with Otis Spann and James Cotton.

  • That's Jame Cotton on harp and jitterbug dancing.

  • More important than the microphone is of course his mojo.

  • DEMS DE BLUEZ BROSURE!

  • got my mmmmmmmmmmmmmm working!

  • These are SCHOEPS Microphones. German made. My personal opinion I could be close to the answe.

  • six people actively dislike this song. I just don't understand how you could dislike this...

  • @plecouteur people who dont know real music when it slaps them in the face

  • @plecouteur They got holes in their souls...

  • @plecouteur I can only imagine it's a racism thing

  • @yerfavoritegreg to be fair, the recording is terrible. much better version is up on youtube

  • @plecouteur Probably listening to their Lady Gag-me CDs. THIS is real music.

  • @plecouteur Seven people (or idiots) dislike this song.

  • @jriley1992 actually bro they have the right not to like it,they must be hillbillies, glen miller's fans or simply deaf.

Some people like eminem over 50 cents(go figure)bloomfield over Jimmy Hendrix, and that's o.k. flowers were not made to be admired by hogs.

  • @plecouteur they were probably disturbed by the black and white video.

  • why the hell are they even here, damn scum.....

  • @plecouteur ...they are classical lovers tuned in here by mistake.....or aliens

  • @plecouteur Because they don't actually appreciate music as an art, but instead just conform to current trends. For example, I believe any true modern rap "artist" would pay their respects to the black musicians that paved the way for them... and not just blacks, but everyone can appreciate this stuff which so heavily influenced the modern rock n' roll America is known for. Guys like this rocked so hard the whole world felt it, and proceeded to move their happy feet.

  • its one of them recording microphones see!

  • Spellbinding

  • Dig James Cotton blow baby !

  • can someone please tell me the name of the dance they are doing at 1:55??? and can someone teach me ?? hahaha

  • @randycalifornia I looks like the mashed potatoes. But also like the Charleston. Check out some James Brown in the T.A.M.I. show.

  • Those guys aat 1:55 know how to dance.

  • whatt! is that looks like the Nicholas Brothers out there dancin! *:D

  • Fantastic!!!! What a man!!!!

  • Think about how much that Gibson Les paul in the background would be worth now!!!

  • really like this video luv old school

  • I'd like to shoot the moron who filmed this. Muddy's bopping all over the stage, and the camera isn't on him for about a minute and a half. Seeing him is just as great as listening to him.
