  • she looks DAMN good for an old girl!

  • LMS engine at 0:41?

  • Excellent Video Peter. :D - Faved and Liked

  • So... her third cylinder is underneath her?

  • i cant beleive its been 2 years already o.o

  • look at the rims on that bitch

  • Don't forget the tires. A steam locomotive has soft iron tires on those rims.

  • I like the how you caught sho of the headlamp glowing though the steam at 1.24

  • I've only seen 46 seconds so far but it looks brilliant 5* but really does deserve more planning on seeing it at redhill next sat 7th nov

  • Nicely shot footage from well-chosen vantage points. Good stuff. May I ask what camera you use?

I'm quite new to YouTube so I'm not sure I've got the ratings system figured out yet. Someone gave one of my efforts four stars the other day and on that basis I reckon this is worth about twelve but how do I...?

  • Hi Tim.. 5 stars is the max rating on YT.. I wouldnt expect any more than that but thank you for a generous 12* I am currently using a Sony FX7 with a Libec T72 tripod, H38 head and ZC 3DV Remote. Thank you for your interest and kind comments.. Peter Boggis

  • Yeah I jest- obviously the ratings aren't that complicated. My point was that this is clearly more than 25% better than a bunch of hand-held clips shot on a still camera and slapped together with Movie-maker (although I hope my enthusiasm for the subject comes across as does yours).

BTW my question about your camera in no way implies that good equipment is the sole reason for the high standard you set just as big budget films are not necessarily better than low budget films.

    Or even usually.

  • I totally agree! The finished result will always reflect the degree of input from behind the camera regardless of the quality or type of equipment!. Poor composure and technique is nothing to do with the hardware!!. ..I look forward to viewing further uploads from you Tim.

  • I WANT ONE :-)

  • Lovely video sir, 5*

  • what a brilliant machine 5* video

Tornado blown leander to say move it lol

  • Truly stunning, 5*s just doesn't cut it..this video deserves so many more than 5*s....fantastic!

  • thanks so much! keep up the good work!

  • Fantastic video. Thank you!

  • This is stunning footage! As one of the team who built Tornado I have scanned YouTube for months for footage of her, and this is by far the best of the Great Central material.

Would you be prepared to make this available to the A1 Trust video archive?

  • Comment removed

  • The deed is already done. Ron Muggleton (the A1 Trust video archivist) is in possession of my DVD containing these sequences. Many thanks for your kind comments I am most flattered.

will have another try later tonight.

    cheers

  • Shull be a bit hacky noo like burra cud still kiss ar cos shis brill.

Says a Shields lad who played with these as a kid.

  • 6 Puffs per revolution! They did a good job in recreating one of the best British Locomotives. Next I expect a new 9F or a 5MT Black Five be built!

  • i'd like to see an 0-4-2T 14XX

  • Im Looking forward the the New Clan that is being built. No.72010 Hengist is being constructed at the Swanage Railway and would have been the first production loco of the second proposed batch of 15.

  • i agree with novusfumo that this the best vid of tornado

  • Many thanks, I look forward now to seeing her in green :o)

  • stunning

  • HD suits A1's very well! Nice work!

  • Thanks OB, . Yes no regrets after making the switch. The new toy offers me both options, I cant see me using 4:3 again though.

  • I bet your Hard Drive thinks otherwise though!

  • Not really a problem with two 500GB drives OB:o)

  • Is it me or does it sound like Tornado has air braking fitted to it?

  • Yes youre right .. Air brakes are the primary braking system on Tornado. The loco will spend most of its time on the main line. However to enable the locomotive to haul vacuum braked stock on heritage railways, a vacuum ejector is fitted. The original A1 class was equipped with a steam brake for the locomotive and vacuum brake for the train.

  • Best vid yet of Tornado on the GC!

  • Many thanks :o)

  • cracking shots!5*

  • Thanks OG :o)

  • Nice video!! I recently watched a Tv show about the building of this loco. I'm glad she is running well. 5*

  • Hi Cameron, Thanks for commenting, She look great doesnt she? :o)

  • hey pete, was this engine built from scratch. or did they find some other engine similar to this one and restore it to running condition.

  • 60163 Tornado is a brand new main line steam locomotive, built by the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, a charitable trust founded in 1990, for the purposes of building Tornado, and cost around £3 million. Tornado is due to operate its first main-line passenger train on 31 January 2009.

  • And in full Green livery as well!!

  • you don't say lol
