How cool, my mom would make crust like that. Shortening was a staple back then. I am going to have to try that since nobody is around to make a pie for me.
I love AB, but this is NOT my idea of a good apple pie. Good is simple... apples, sugar, couple tablespoons of flour, a few dots of butter, and just a little shake of cinnamon. The apples should be done, but still have some texture....not all mushy. Obviously, the type of apple used is HIGHLY important.
but you have to admit it AB, the idea of an apple pie with a pie dome filled with marshmallow creme, and apple sauce, topped with icing sugar, and a bit of lemon sounds great!
What oven temperature are we supposed to cook at, I dont recall him mentioning it, but i went through it a couple of times and still couldnt find it :S
apple pie w/ no cinnamon/nutmeg/clove/ginger/allspice or some combi thereof? if it were any other chief, i wouldnt trust that idea. but it's AB so ill give it a shot, 'sides, i bet leftover applejack has loads of uses ;-)
@whitefire64 i'm definitely skeptical about his filling ingredients as well...although letting the apples drain seems like a good idea--i'd never thought of/heard of that before!
@deadworthy LOL! So True. I am guessing though you never saw the original Mr. Wizard. He was the predecessor of Bill Nye and others. *sigh* Guess I am showing my age :D AB was inspired by Mr. Wizard. (And Monty Python and Julia Childs)
@MoyraAngel Good genealogy, there. I'd definitely agree. You can find elements of all those shows in Good Eats, which is probably why it is so fantastic.
@knightsintodreams Oh Good. Guess I am not a lost cause. I love talking about things and then some one asks what they are because it was before their time. XD
the ending makes me think of Bandit Keith... in America!

Anyone know where I can get that folding pie rest he uses at the end? That is the only piece of AB equipment I don't have.

actually rabbit, frog and guinea pigs also taste like chicken. but the guinea pig has a bit of a duck-y taste as well. strange i know....
HinataYuri 2 years ago
i disagree with rabbit idk about others
HGClark 2 years ago
true, but if you were to do a random switch, it would be hard to tell the difference unless you were comparing them right next to each other...
HinataYuri 2 years ago
So do frogs. Makes sense given that birds like chicken evolved from reptiles.
