  • use more technical skill!!!

  • Que mierda su "cover", ahi es cuando la guitarra se vuelve descarada.../you suck... it´s sound horrible... i´m pianist, and a composer, the guitar doesn´t fits at all in this song, plus before you try to make some "chages" in a song, you should make a little research of who is Glass, and whats the meaning of this song, an then your interpretacion.

  • This was REALLY great and thank you for posting. I am also a guitarist and recently i have been composing songs on my classical acoustic using inspirations from Philip Glass and it is working quite well. I may post them soon when (and if ever) I finish. Thanks again for posting.

  • Fantastic ! Very very beautifull! Congratulations!

  • very well worked, hard to get the sound 100% correct, but you aced it!

  • you just btecced a perfectly good song :(

  • this is what philip glass is for. accompanying a solo musician.

  • LOOK DUDE DONT LISTEN TO WHAT PEOPLE SAY THEY DONT KNOW THE BEAUTY OF A GUITAR THEY ARENT MUSICIANS THEY DONT UNDERSTAND I THOGUHT THIS WAS FUCKIN AWSOME DUDE.DID YOU USE SCALES OR JUST MESSED AROUND?U HAVE A TALENT THE SONG WAS MISSING SOMETHING AND THIS IS IT

  • Wow people are jerks haha. Well I have to say its pretty sweet. I play guitar as well, hell I play heavy metal music and I listen and enjoy Philip Glass. Seeing and hearing this is an awesome mix.

Seems people can't accept other's tastes so easily =/

  • This is absolutely terrible. Never do this again.

  • @yougonndie what a fucking dick! what do you know about music?! it is great to experiment and improvise with different things, it can only improve your musicianship. perfection is a concept so ridiculous to apply to art it does not surprise me you also use the word tasteless. taste is relative, but you are an absolute asshole.

  • Very good. I am sure Mr Glass would love this!

  • nice guitar! very good playing! listed the whole song, thats a good thing;) peace up

  • Very cool. As far as the comment, "Contrary to popular ..." goes, I have to disagree. Minimalism is routed strongly in a "Marxist" effort to combat the musical elite of the time. One reason why Glass' solo piano work is so easy to play is because it is meant to be played by people of all skill levels. It brings the music to people of all backgrounds. And just like Riley's "In C," the communal element of improvisation is very strong. This type of project fits the bill well.

  • Contrary to popular approval, i do not like the guitar arrangement, specially considering the theory behind glass' music. Please, do not attempt to make another glass song with these kind of arrangements.

  • hey really good version dude!! of this good song!

  • PROFOUNDLY BEAUTIFUL! IF YOU SOLD THIS SINGLE IN A RECORD SHOP I WOULD BY IT!! YOU ARE VERY TALENTED... FANTASTIC..

  • Amazingly beautiful! Bravo!

  • wow that really added to the song

  • Very nice with the guitar.... listen to mine at the piano...

  • Omg....awsome. 5 stars from me too :)

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Nice but you could reduce a little the treble in your amplifier.

It needs to sound a little smoother :P

Other than that, 5 stars to you =)

  • Reminds me of Pink Floyd.

  • This sounds really pretty :) Don't listen to the people saying you ruined it; they're just philistines :)

  • I love it. It's beautiful. Works very well with the original recording.

  • Beautiful.. Love the mix of guitar and piano. The tone of the guitar is perfect. Don't listen to the purists. It sounds great as it is. It would really sound great if it were really put on tracks and mixed. Maybe it is a little repetitious but that's the nature of the song anyway. The tone sounds like something the Scorpions used on the Animal Magnetism album.

  • man... i give you credit for liking glass, but to turn it in to a bunch of cheese, i slapped my forehead? somethings you just cant mix. it just reminded me of 80's power ballads. sorry bro.

  • Contrary to what most say. I can see you have great phrasing techniques. It is the slower tempo music that is more difficult to put feeling into and you do it well. listen to Nigel Kennedy play Bach 1041 part two. Kennedy has an amazing ability to put so much life into slow melodies, as do you.

  • I agree. I not a music expert but I appreciate people trying new ideas and experimenting.

  • this sucks.

  • wow playing root notes over a genius work what the fuck give up music forever thanks in advance

  • Make it stop!!!!!!!!!

  • shit as hell. Sorry but sometimes some melodies do not fit to another.

  • This is a great solo. But it's not the opening to Glassworks, as you advertised, so I have to rate you down. Sorry, mate. 2 stars, and only that because you know how to choose some notes.

  • You just took a solo (a particularly boring one too) over the piece, I'm REALLY disappointed. I was expecting some cool finger-picking too.

  • hey man, if you'd like to see this piece fingerpicked on guitar, please check my video!

  • It's like being served Pink Floyd over Glass.

  • A conventional guitar player that doesn't know anything else that add distor and a lead. You need to try harder. A beautiful song.

  • I think I would have liked this better if I hadn't heard the original before. The guitar is nice, but I think it would fit the song better if that part was put on strings. Also, you should get a more ambient tone: more reverb/delay, less gain. And add more vibrato to your held bends.

    Overall, very good!

  • I was expecting a tasteful finger pick of the original. You have good technique but a big distorted solo over this piece makes it sound really cheesey.

  • Nice work.

  • Perfectly haunting...

  • me parecio excelente!

  • i like the electronic addition...but i don't like the tone of the guitar. you need a less focused tone...a more ambient one. good taste in music though :)

  • guitar player point of view, nice well done, dunno bout the minimalist side coz i only just started it for my GCSE.

  • No way, this is awesome. These naysayers remind me of armchair writing group critics who are more concerned with "proper" style rather than purpose or what the art evokes. That being said, I don't believe that it defeats the "minimalist" purpose either, it doubles the effect of simplicity in that the guitar complements the piano and enhances the lonely emotional beauty of Glass's piano piece.

  • I don't think so. The electric guitar just sounds loud and obnoxious next to this soft piece. The two instruments are typically used to convey such different emotions. I can definitely see this being done with a similar song, just not this one.

  • Well, that's a matter of opinion. Seems like a lot of people do like this. I would say that perhaps he departs from the style of the original, like turning folk into country, (yech), and we like the new style while "traditionalists" don't. Hey, maybe alexstrat can claim a new style! In any case, I think it's a matter of taste. I do like the original version very much, so maybe the style theory doesn't hold water? Heavy metal has its own beauty as well, and perhaps this has the same issue.

  • The contrast is what makes it so good. It's unexpected and conveys mixed feelings.

  • autsch

  • sorry, but this defeats the purpose of the art

  • Comment removed

  • wtf... oh no...

you should make this to a song of hans zimmer - but NOT to a arrangement of philip glass...

    dont like it, sorry dude..

  • It's really good!

    Well done!

    5 stars

  • I appreciate experimenting, but I do agree that soloing on a highly conspicuous guitar sound is antithetical to the entire point Mr. Glass's subtle minimalism. A gentle ebow may have been nice. I was really hoping to hear something fingerstyle, oh well.

  • I like the execution, but the idea makes Philip Glass' pointless.

  • great, i love it!

  • guitar gives really interesting harmony in this version. I like it!!

  • I prefer Philip Glass originals. But is quite well

  • This Piece Does Not Need Noise Vomit. You've created a monster...

  • haha noise vomit

    but i like it

  • Beautiful.

  • congratulations, the tab please?

  • enio morricone ?

  • adiós nonino!!!

    adiós no-ni-nooooo...

temo lo que pueda suceder si sigo mirando a este tipito arruinar una pieza de Glass...

  • beautiful!

i love the piano version a lot.. and your version is nearly better :D

    great! <3

  • very good!

    it's simple, yet powerful

    i like it :D

  • i agree!

  • yeah, i feel like: glass didn't mean this piece of music to be a desert for a 1000-years-slow-motion growing of an almost electric cactus

  • i like music, but this is more boring than being dead

  • Siebenkaas, what were you expecting? A techno remix? This is one man's guitar rendition of the original piece - which, if you listen closely - is a very mellow piece. Therefore, it's not going to be something with 80 beats per minute. I think this particular version is done exceedingly well, and managed to honor Glass's original piece as well.

  • well, maybe that's the point that i didn't expect anything, i know glass's concert for violin and like it, keep it in honour, let's say; but this here sounds like parts of "i'll send all my loving to you" used in the worst spaghetti movie soundtrack i've ever heard (and the movie would probably show a cactus growing there for a 100 min), and thats why i fall asleep. sooorryy, can't help it. i'll go and have a look how the original was - ahm - meant

  • interesting :)

  • interesting :)

  • this makes me wish, that Mike Oldfield had done some more stuff of Glass'(apart from North Star)!

  • I think this is a really nice accompaniment to the piano piece. It's almost like a combination of the almost mathematical (but still beautiful) piano by Glass and the extremely emotional guitar solo "Watermelon in Easter Hay" by Frank Zappa.

    Excellent job. =)

  • Great work! Do you know of any guitar books that show you how to play this kind of music on guitar?

  • magnifique... tu la jouera devant moi *-*

    kisss

  • You know what would really impress me? If you arranged this piece for solo guitar...maybe on a nylon string...let me know if you are up for the challenge. Scott

  • All the harmonies are either (stolen) from Opening or if not they are those worn harmonies one can find in any boring pop song.

  • bad bad bad, is not Opening, is a very bad guitar noise.

  • Piñatón compadre. There´s no need for this. Sorry I didn´t like it. Probably the guitar alone, without the piano (an enriched version)... Yes, I´m sure it works better. But not this way. Anyway, it´s a nice try and a proof that you love this great music.

  • Häh? *Homosexual content*? If someone WANTS to see any sexual content it WILL find it (and the other way round) - it's that easy, guys! ;-)

  • 5☆5☆5☆5☆5☆tars from: smi-ren-ger!.

  • Your tone is great and you play with a good sense of touch, similar to Andrew Latimer from the band Camel. You shouldn't waste time with Glass though. His composing is overly fluffed-up bullshit and even a ton of awesome guitar-playing couldn't save the piece from being boring and trite.

  • nonsense

  • I disagree with the composing comment, i don't think his music is boring... just repetitious, which isn't bad...

  • It really is so very beautiful, I was kind of amazed that it worked so well. I'd love to see you do some more Philip Glass.

  • Thank you so much, I will try some others ;-)

  • @alexstrat pfff

  • This is incredible. I wish more people would make music like this.

  • very beautiful..

  • Beautiful.

  • Man. I'm a violin player, but this makes me want to go out and learn the guitar!

  • check out my how not to move a piano vid i think you will like it

  • Fisherdec

i'v listened through this vid a few times and still i cannot find any homosexual content (or other sexual content for that matter). have a misunderstood you ? I am REALLY cOnFuSeD by guitar terminology... i find words such as:

"masturbatory"; "shread"or "shred"; "palyer dum bass"

and now "gay" Guitar ppl seem to have a secret language... it intrugues me ! please .... what does "gay" mean in this context and be glad of yr help with the other words too.

    robbie

    xx

  • Very nice. Now I want to try myself. But damn, have two midterms tomorrow.

  • Nice job ;)

  • this is so fucking badass -- loved it. but agree with the one who said the guitar should be background, with piano up louder

  • wow! this is beautiful...

  • This is really pretty - but I'd have the guitar in the background with the piano being the main feature instead of the other way around, if you plan on making future recordings. Good job!

  • what do you use for equipment?

  • Amp: Line 6 Spider II 112

Guitar: Les Paul Copy with Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II

    ;-)

  • This is brilliant. I'd love to hear this cleanly recorded. Excellent work!

  • Very cool man! i dig this, 5 starz!

  • Less distortion please. It overpowers the piano.

  • doesn't really matter how much distortion he has because it just how he sees the song...that's whats great about music it can be seen however you want.

  • precise and understated.. i liked it.. :)

  • Mooi man! En mooie gitaar ook!
