  • this solves the W.o.t.E vs Gotye debate...

  • amazing work..so well thought out and executed! perfect timing too, well done!

  • Actually, I guess they aren't *exactly* the same...

  • Darn, if I knew someone made this -- perfectly I may add --, I wouldn't have wasted the past 10 hours making something exactly like this! >_< All that hard work for nothing!

*Sigh* I searched YouTube before I made it, but YouTube didn't show me this video until after I uploaded mine!

@scottmay Just know I had no intention of copying you. ;)

  • @SharonLougheed It's all good - I wonder why it's not showing up on searches...

  • @scottmay Thanks. Well, hmm... I just did a search right now and this was #2 Unless my YouTube history is affecting my current search results, I don't know how I didn't see this yesterday... :/ Oh well...

  • Very well done indeed! what software did u use to make it?

  • @DAGATHire After Effects and some Jack Daniel's

  • download link please ??

  • @holyconqueror Sorry, not my music to give out

  • muito bom

  • Cool! Nice job!

  • HA!! Thats neat!

  • the cover has a better sound, but the original has WAY more emotion and resonance

  • OMG!! This is brilliant!!! Well done, you did amazing by comparing both videos... Gianni's and Gotye's voice sound almost the same in the chorus... Yet i prefer WOTE's version.. And one of the things got me in Wote's cover is how Gianni was looking to the camera, it feels like he's staring right into my soul.. haha!! i love it...

  • Love it!!

  • this is brilliant!...still prefer WOTE on their own tho :-)

  • i just raped the replay button... js.

  • nice. definitely something you need to listen to with headphones. you can hear each on its own at the same time.

  • @LeejTwg21 I'll have to try that.

  • I made a lyrics video to this song.

  • This is totally incredible actually gave me shivers!!!

  • Its like they were made to listen this way!!

    amazing!

  • Love it!

  • Did and awesome work by puting these together!! plenty many thanks

  • great job! thanks :)

  • Gotye's version is much better than that other cheap immitation

  • Comment removed

  • This is the best version of the song I have heard. I was able to get an mp3 of it on HXC downloads dot c, but there might be an easier way right on youtube. I want to hear this done as an 80ies remix. It really has an 80ies feel to it, in my opinion.

  • @pulsar89 - as someone who actually knows the guys in WOTE, I can definitely say that they are really that talented. The thing that you might miss is that they recorded it a dozen times, and in a studio that they spend almost every day working in. Check out some of their other work, some of their amazing original music, and don't be so quick to hate on talent.

  • sorry if my English is bad, bit I'm from The Netherlands and only 13 years old :P ;$

  • oke lol.. i like the cover more ;$

  • if i wonna draw something on paper i put on this music the music brings me on much idea`s

  • Omg this is.. awesome haha :)

  • I never knew they were so alike wow they truly did a great job

  • This is way too amazing !!

  • Mind = Blown

  • This just proves how brilliant WOTE are, to perform the song and not even miss a beat! I don't get why people are saying it's recorded, how come they're playing the guitar and their mouths move then?

  • @DonCarnage42

Because in the video they're miming to Gotye's song, then they removed the audio and overdubbed it with studio recordings. They're fooling people with their fake 'live' video.

  • @Pulsar89 : just watch they perform at ellen show, you call that fake???? do it yourself!!!! its a people like you made music die!

  • @Pulsar89 They are quite clearly not miming in any fashion. If you had the ability to make use of your ears correctly, you would find that there are in fact subtle differences in the vocals of each performer. For example, Gotye holds some notes longer than WOTE. Also, WOTE changes some of the notes in the verses, which I think helps the melody flow better, but that's just my opinion. Before you make accusations, why don't you actually give it some analysis first?

  • @Chevy71Corvette Good comment!

  • @Pulsar89 There is also quite a difference in their tonal qualities, especially between Sarah and Kimbra.

  • @Pulsar89 Sorry dude, I was stupid trolling a bit there. But please, any music video or "live" tv performance is fake is playback, singback, pitch tuning and what have you. Lot's of bands do post production on live recordings etc. What matters is the individuals experience, but I would give you that it's fooling people.

  • @DonCarnage42 I agree that a lot of bands do post produce their live music and this one might have some as well, but not enough to hide the actual live recording.. unless it was completely overdubbed. The rhythm section is a little loose at times but in time which leads me to believe it's live. It's sounds really good. Very original idea of multi-musicians playing one instrument versus the usual one musician playing multi-instruments.

  • @marsmetals OK on 2nd thought it does have some post enhancement.

  • The walk off the earth's guy on the far right has had his eybrows shaved off and replaced with big black furry caterpillars !.

  • WOTE's cover is very popular by using five people on a gutair (and the right man looking like (cringe) Chuck Norris) but Gotye did the production by himself. Both impressive but both are equally incredible. I also love it how people keep saying that the cover is going to get more views than the orignal for the right man resembling Chuck Norris for over a week but its still not. Maybe because the original is getting more success on singles chart worldwide

  • "I heard Gotye did an awful cover", "Gotye made 4842 accounts". Pathetic comments ive been reading, i respect the people's opinion but they don't have to be mean about it, im pretty sure WOTE aren't like them, they seem like nice people. WOTE's vocals on it feels like a cheat to improve it by lacking the emotions of the lyrics (even though Gotye written it but Kimbra didn't and she captured it well) by making it sounds like a pub performance cliche but its still good.

  • if you only listen with the left earphone you can hear walk of the earth if you listen with the right earphone you can hear gotye :D

  • The cover is staged. It is a music video. Not a live performance. Anyone who knows anything about sound design and music can easily tell that this is a fake live performance. If it were real the two videos would not sync up... unless they all had ear pieces in keeping the tempo. They don't. Either way what the cover band has done is cool. It should be treated like a cool music video, not an amazing live performance. There is no bleeding in the audio track. If it were live there would be bleeding

  • @Beefpattyb Couldn't keep tempo for 4 minutes? BS, if you can't keep tempo for 4 minutes then give up music.

  • @Beefpattyb The guy on the left was keeping tempo from start to end so it is possible he was using a click track so everything would sync up if they used the original tempo, but I do agree that there is SOME post enhancement. I would like to see this done LIVE sometime to see how good it actually sounds.

  • @marsmetals

Search for Walk Off the Earth and Ellen. They did this live on the Ellen DeGeneres on January 23. It didn't sound as good because it was live and Gianni was sick, but it shows that they actually can play this live. Obviously, it sounds better in a video production.

  • For me it's a no brainer. Gotye and Kimbra do it with feeling. WOTE is just gimmickry.

  • Wow I knew they sounded similar but its spot on... love it

  • Amazing.

  • good joob :)

  • Cover is the best ;D

  • I'm fascinated that an original and a cover can go side-by-side and be an improvement over both. It's phenomenal.

  • So there you see, what it takes to make a song with more than 50.000.000 hits on YouTube. Nothing but a lot of luck and a good label - and more luck.

  • Hammer gemacht, echt super.

  • Really good! Nice job!!

  • I always wonder which one to listen to. But not anymore thanks to you :)

  • Great job!

  • Both are incredible.

Five people on a guitar is pretty original.

The problem with the cover is the vocal on the verses, I'm not saying it's bad but it doesn't really fit into the lyrics while Gotye and Kimbra does it quietly and leading up to the chorus.

  • This is incredible. They sound amazing mixed together.

  • Simply amazing.

  • You can be addicted to a certain kind of saddness, but I am addicted to this song!!

  • Well done.

  • @rbaron78 Thank you.

  • Awesome, awesome mashup. Thanks for posting this!

  • What PROGRAM did you use to make this? Please!

  • @TheSUPERHAPPY1 Adobe After Effects

  • Separate, both of the versions are still incredible but overlapped I find the mixture of tones so mesmerizing...

  • well done!

  • ytitty is better ;))

  • 1000+1000=2000 I don't have to say more

  • Props to Gotye for writing this song. Each version haunts you in its own way.

  • I guess my point is it may be easy or not to exactly recreate a pretty cool song, but Gotye had the brains and the skill to do it, Walk the Earth is technically great, buts lets see them get famous on their own.

  • Is it just me or is it a little insulting (unless they had full permission and cooperation) to cover somebody so quickly and somewhat take their thunder..

and I really hope both parties give some props to Sting, since the high note parts sound exactly like Sting solo, or maybe even in the Synchronicity era..

  • Gotye is the best :)

  • walk off the earth sounds better:)

  • Both are amazing. But I will say that Kimbra just has more depth in her voice. I like how her voice has a bit more angst in it. Sounds richer.

  • So awesome

  • voll cool

  • Yaay I was hoping someone would do this. Thanks!

  • God I love this. x3

  • I just love the cover of WOTE!! But Gotye is also fabulous.

The clip of walk off the earth is more interesting to watch because

it must be so difficult to play a guitar like that!

  • @douyou1969

Sorry, but walk off the earth's video is 'fake': it's not live, they overdubbed the audio afterwards.

  • Very well fucking done

  • gotye is the best :D

  • WooooooW! I knew they sounded a lot alike, but this...! incredible!

They removed all the original videos :( which is a tragedy!!!

  • amazing

  • I love it

  • in comparison... the cover is much better. although the original one is absolutely amazing....

  • Sarah > Kimbra

  • Super! Pozdrowienia z Polski.

  • To jest doskonałe! :D

  • Amazing! I, too, was wondering how close they were, esp with the middle guy. Now I know! THANKS!!

  • @scottmay

Awesome upload. Have to say I like male lead from Walk off the earth better then Gotye, but Kimbra is way better. And the middle guy... My god... They must be clones...

Seriously though, thanks a bunch for the upload.

  • I like the male voices on the left, they are just more powerful,

and the girl from the right, she doesn't have this POP music singing style like the one on the left side.

  • Walk off the earth is better

  • Booo-urns

  • great job to great song!

  • Gotye is better <3

  • Wow i love it!

  • Gotye brought me here. Perfectly mixed. Blond vs Perfect

  • perfekt is the only word that i used to know about this!!!!!

  • That is so cool

  • This is awesome! Great job!

  • I didn't have the time to listen the two versions and i didn't know wich one to choose; then i fell on this one.

    That's freaking perfect!

  • wow better than the original ;o

  • Woow.

  • gianni really nails the chorus

  • Awesome. Just... awesome!

  • I did this manually but its better this way

  • Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!

  • Great!

  • @scottmay sorry, should have said this earlier, but great job, love it.

@dasfx i see the end of the song/clip differently. He cant figure out why she 'cut' him out. i see pain and longing in Gotyes expression and his voice, showing regret. he is still angry. Kimbra looks like she almost feels sorry for him as she walks away. he is still stuck in the same place, while she has moved on, finally letting go.

  • I love this video, Scott and it's amazing how close the two are to one another. Nice work on the video and I sent you an email so I hope to hear from you soon.

  • Now I can clearly see how perfect The Cover is! Scottmay, great job. Gotye, Kimbra and Walk off the Earth - they are all just perfect! I love them! ¡Me encanta esta canción! Greetings from Poland :) Polska rządzi YouTube'm :D

  • It's kinda funny how well their expressions match up as well.

  • I'm amazed they are in-tune with each other!

  • awesome! really good job!!

  • sounds most epic with You Computers Sound Balance shifted 40% to the left

  • super jebote otac

  • super jebote otac

  • Damn.

  • Interesting...very cool to watch

  • I think that WOTE has better instrumentals, but Gotye has much better vocal sound. While WOTE has a fancy trick video, the Gotye has an actual music video that makes the song deeper. However the video doesnt really make the song. So I think its still a toss up. @1:39 Gotye just sounds so epic vocally, I think i will listen to his version more.

  • part 2 WOTE film clip, while being ever cool, is nothing more than a well rehearsed parlour trick. The Gotye clip gives a lot more intensity to the words & an understanding of both sides. The shapes painted on the bodies shows that they are both still broken up & connected. Kimbras shrug of the shoulders shows that she isn’t going take it anymore. Lastly, Kimbras body paint coming off is her letting go, not being broken up or bitter any longer. The painful bond is over. (Again, just my opinion)

  • @dampaul13 Of course Goyte's is deeper with more meaning behind it. It's the original and he's the writer. WOTE are simply doing a cover, creatively.

And I think her paint coming off is him letting go of her...dismissing her from his world

  • part 1

Have to disagree with people who have said that the WOTE version is better.

In my opinion Gotye has a much more distinctive voice, one that suits the pain of the song better. While the guys in WOTE just sound like so many other singers in pubs all over the world. Same goes for Kimbra, she expresses the rebuttal in a way that completely changes the listeners perception of the song through pain & intensity, not just sounding pretty.

  • Really nice with the split sound. It really makes it easy to hear the differences in their flow and the exact tones they sing.

  • When I put only my left headphone in my left ear i only hear WOTE

And When I put only my left one I only hear Gotyes version.

    That confuses me xD

    Anyways big like <3 ^^ (Y)

  • that makes me happy!!!

  • The original version is by far the best. Gotye´s singer has got a much cleaner pitch and the same goes for Kimbra. But nice alternative cover version from WOTE

  • Good stuff Scottmay, seriously good stuff.

  • Nice work. I like them both but kudos to WOTE for really owning the song in the end.

  • Walk off the Earth is so much better!!

  • Amazing, thanks for doing the comparison! this shows what a great job WOTE did.

  • great song!

  • Neato!

  • man can these groups sing i am 58 but enjoyed every second thanks guys whoops and girls

  • Fuck! Yea!

  • Brilliant job!

  • NINE ELEVEN WAS AN inside-job! Carried-out by EL-C.I.A. duh, & BUSH / (shotgun Dick)CHENEY. Sing about it!!!

"...hey don't ya know? Were on the eve of destruction (and TYRANNY!!!)!

    Prisonplanet Infowars

  • Very nice,..Very Nice! I see not only so CREATIVELY - (even) all - together WOW!

Nice catchy-tune lyrics well posed, sounds pleaseing to the ear, as also collaborated magnificantly! As also, epic as in regards the five on one guitar, so well orchestrated, so well thought-out! A success, now rest-not on laurels. Get yer other tunes sharp watch-out for those big-Insurance Policies! And permanent-contracts! Whew,...watch out for those damned fans & groupies-they can quickly lead you to ruin.

  • I love how at 3:40 Gianni and Gotye's vocals separate, so it actually sounds like they're complimenting each other in the same song. :)

  • AWESOME! I opened both videos in two different windows and switched back and forth about a million times, to see if it was actually Gianni doing vocals on the WOTE video because it was so damn close to Gotye's. Thanks for doing this! :)

  • which program did you use to make this video???

  • @cliomil After Effects

  • this is even better than each version of the song alone :D

  • Wow...just...Wow.... <3

  • Before discovering this upload I had a choice of listening to two awesome artists performing the original, or five awesome artists performning the cover. Now I can listen to all seven at once. So good it's kind of creepy. Thanks @scottmay, grab yourself a beer mate! ;)

  • ....no words... :D damn...mindblowing yeah? i think this word fits well :D

  • I was JUST wondering HOW I was gonna make BOTH of these amazing sounds go in my ears at the SAME TIME! AWESOME!

  • I love the original, I love the cover, but together? MINDBLOWING

  • So they both sound great, which should mean that the original creator's version is better. But then there's epic beard man...

  • @scottmay Out of curiosity, I played both these videos simultaneously earlier today. After coming to the conclusion that the tempos were pretty well matched, I immediately thought of the idea of mixing both tracks onto a single video. While browsing through De Backer's tweets, I found out about this video. Thank you for taking the trouble of making that idea a reality!

  • @HadeanCO No problem - glad you like it!

  • @HadeanCO Agreed! Most grateful listener here, too!

  • Funny how that happens........great video, but the guy needs to cut his toe nails, geeze!

  • i think i like walk off the earth's version better but i prefer kimbra

  • I'm glad that more people are discovering WOTE. I've been listening to them for over a year now. They are amazing and deserve everyone's love. They work so hard on their videos and music, there really isn't any reason to dislike these guys. Well, unless you don't like the genre of their original music. But still, they are truely amazing.

  • @ scottmay: good job done, amazing how close both is. But WOTE is better

  • @wepo59 Thanks for the kind words
