I have the SACD of the album with this. It's really awesome, and is a favorite in my collection. I'd like to thank Peter and his crew, or whomever is responsible for the excellent quality of the audio! Sure beats the crap the controllers of the music industry try to force on us!
I found this song yesterday and can't stop playing it..late last evening I read the lyrics and now I understand what the song is about (admittedly I liked the sound of it at first) ..definitely one of my fave songs from P.Gabriel now ..
Thank you for uploading this - this song is so beautiful. I used to listen to this song with headphones on my bed in college and relax to it. I had played this over and over in the car when I sped over to the nursing home after I had heard that my grandfather had just died (this was almost 4 years ago). I can't listen to this song without thinking of him and crying; he suffered a horrible death. This song is both a gorgeous combination of morbidity and beauty, and I simply can't help weeping. <3
great transition at 7:00. i like the depth, and the guitar riff,... it has one voice, where some of his songs have 2 or 3 voice/character tones making for incredible texture. this one is direct.
I've grown up with Peter's music - all the way from Nursery Crimes thru SO and UP to New Blood. A tremendous writer and performer. My respect forever.......... keep on keeping on............when's the next British tour? Love this song.
anyone else notice that an entire drum fill is like played and not heard at 6:53? Like he does the fill, and its simply not heard :p I wonder if they just cut it out of the mix cause they decided the song would sound better without it? Regardless, absolutely amazing song!!!
I am always knocked to my knees when i visit this...I can go away for months and come back, always the same, sucks the air out of me. Truly a beautiful song.....my respect.
Who is playing in this video? Peter Gabriel on vocals, ok, Melanie Gabriel on backing vocals, Tony Levine on bass, and? Who is playing Keyboards? Guitars? Drums?
Yeah, baby! Gabriel is wearing a pair of Sennheiser headphones! Why would anyone listen to anything else? They're the best, period. If you really care about the music you listen forget about all the other brands. Every time I listen to music with my Sennheiser I have to open my eyes to remind myself I'm not listening to my speakers.
Gabriel, dude, do another US tour. This time around do a Genesis song, man! It'd blow everyone's mind!!!
I used to go through the dumpsters in Tulsa Oklahoma 365 days a year. I would wake up before the dawn and pray the morning prayer at the Masjid (Mosque) and then I would go to work consolidating recyclable material. One day, I found the album "UP" in a dumpster. I listened to it and realized how well the album was done. My grandfather was a fill in guitarist for country music stars before being killed in a car accident. My father played guitar as did I until I embraced Islam. This is good.
@flyingwing Tony is one of my all time favorite bass players, a master.
But the Chapman Stick is a different animal. What he does with it is cool and suits the song and his playing style. But there are people out there who play that thing like a piano, it's really amazing.
Who knows, maybe he can play it like that. I just never heard him do it that's all.
The Chapman stick is it's own instrument, and a very deep one at that.
@jmillzz2 I agree with you 100%. I was responding to davebusfield (below) who said the instrument Tony is playing in this clip is a Chapman stick (it is not) and that Tony invented it.
@flyingwing Right on. Just throwing my two cents in about Tony and the Stick. I probably should have commented on a video where he's actually playing it though.
This is one of the best, purest, most powerful versions of this song i've ever seen and heard. It draws me back like a magnet. My respect......my eternal thanks...
I was lucky enough to see and hear the band perform this song live at both the sound check before the Camden, Still Growing Up show and at the show. As far as I know, they didn't do it at any other shows on that tour. They did do it on one of the late night shows too (can't remember which one). It was good but not one of my favorites live and I DO LOVE this song.
Wonderful to see and hear this song played "live"! It doesn't get much better than that. . .WONDERFUL! Pure emotion. . .goes straight through ones soul! Please perform this song live in concert next time Peter!!!
This is a actually a good song for a Gabriel-LIVE-concert - just listen to the album-version - especially the "Don`t Leave Us"-refrain in the end. I like David`s guitars in the middle of this version here - sadly NOT to be heard on the album. GREAT SONG !
The Great Master Peter Gabriel. he still has the same quality of his quite unique voice since the days of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway or even Selling England or Foxtrot he is quite amazing, I strongly believe he could easily sing those old Genesis masterpieces once again, and even better, giving them an upgrade with that special sound and tone that only experience can give. Get together with Tony, Steve, Mike and Phil and you will see ...

@Bugpuc WRONG! It's a fretless electric bass...Tony did not invent the stick, he just plays the shit out of it.
